  1. I have used WIX oil and air filters for years with good results - until I purchased a WIX Oil Filter (this is a cartridge filter) for my 2007 Lexus RX350 - not only did I pay more for the WIX than I would have for an equivalent Toyota OEM Filter - I also found resin molded seal at the top and bottom of the filter was poorly manufactured; initially I was concerned that this filter would leak around it's top and bottom seals. 4 months later and 3,000 I pulled the filter one winter night (after worrying about it for weeks) and discovered that not only had the filter been leaking, but it's top and bottom resin molded seals were actually cracked. I have used only Toyota OEM filters since.
  2. The addative you put in is pure snake oil and has - at best - just degraded your ATF to replacement status - LEXUS, FORD, GM, TOYOTA and just about all major manufactures specifically recommend against adding anything to your engine oil, ATF, PSF. Sorry to hear that you were taken in by this - regretably you need to drop the oil pan on your transmission and replace the fluid in the transmission and troque converter with a reputable product : Use a major brand name product that specifically meets the ATF spec listed in your owners manual - Chevron, Texaco, Exxon, Mobil all make excellent ATF products.
  3. I drive a RX350 in Alberta Winter Conditions - Where Temperatures of -30 to -40 C are not uncommon. Lexus recommends the use of SAE90 GL-5 for summer use and SAE80 GL-5 for winter rear differential use. Neither gear oil has sufficient low-temperature flow to prevent damage below -27 degrees C - and so here is my question ? Has anyone used 75w-90 synthetic GL-5 gear oil in a Lexus differential ? 75w-90 meets all low temperature flow requirments to a low of -40 C and is commonly used in most Canadian GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles where SAE80w-90 GL-5 would otherwise be recommended.
  4. I thought this was the very rubbish he was exhausted by? He didn't say he lacked a relationship with spirituality, but rather could not relate to a Christian story line and its subjective, unrecognizable 'notion' of 'god'. I hope you change your mind as I am very confused... How do you know? This is a strange topic for a lexusownersforum - shinto-buddists likey made the parts for my RX350 - could have been assembled by Christians in Ontario - still seems to run just fine - How so? I did not interpret this as an individual needing spiritual guidance (as it appears you have), but rather as someone finding conflict with the spiritual climate within academia and perhaps the country... as I have. I am hardly suggesting a timeline void of spiritual pursuit. S-hit, otherwise I have wasted considerable time studying with Tibetan Buddhists and some very sore legs.
  5. I just bought a 2002 RX-300 with 67000 miles and had it do the same thing. It blew through 4 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. The dealership said it was a "clogged PCV valve" which caused the case to overpressurize and blow THAT much oil through the rings and out the exhaust. Anybody else ever had this problem and does it seem plausible??? Yes - I once owned a 88' Dodge 5.2 - PCV Valve Failed Closed and I burned a quart of oil in 600 miles - the engine also ran very badly as the excess oil passing the rings lowered the octane of the fuel and I experienced considerable spark knock - took 2 months to find the problem - 10 minutes and less than $5 to fix -
