  1. Nobody seems to know. I describe a similar problem several days ago and have heard no answer. Someone else described likewise several months ago with similar results. Guess we'll be going to the repair shop sometime soon?
  2. Yeh my steering wheel (98 GS300) feels a little "slushy", but I don't have that much (1 inch) play, and it doesn't affect the car's road handling.
  3. I recently purchased a 98 GS300 from my local Lexus dealer. 113k miles, some minor dings you'd only notice up close, it just needs to last 3 years or so well. I replaced the battery a few weeks ago, I take it to the carwash (brushless) every other week, it gets dusty with the quickness . Anyway, one "cool" feature is the steering wheel that slides into place when you start the car. Sometimes it doesn't slide into place. Usually this only happens in the morning (?). I'm not a gearhead by any means, but I'm reasonably handy. My preference to take it to the shop could be over-ruled by a simple inexpensive self-fix. I imagine something like this is common so what could possibly be the problem and how much will a repair cost?
  4. $1200.00 sounds cheap to me. My Lexus service dept wanted about twice that for brakes and rotors on my old ES300 (1995, 175k mi, 20% left on brake pads). There was a lot more wrong with the ES, so I just traded the whole thing in towards my GS300
  5. John Hope Franklin. My aul' man drove him from the airport when Professor Franklin gave a speech at the school my aul' man worked at. They hadn't bothered to hire a car to pick him up and proposed picking him up in a campus patrol car (!). Professor Franklin admired my aul' man's '95 ES300 (The dear departed "Big Dog" that I took custody of and last week traded in for the '98 GS300), stating that he owned one as well.
