  1. Replaced the bushings last December. The rear can be done without jacking it up. I did use a jack on the front because there is just not enough room to get unter there. With the wheel hanging, it was no problem. By the way, the bushings did not look worn, but new ones made an incredible difference in ride. No more 'clunk' over those speed bumps.
  2. I just replaced the F&R stablizer bushings. That 'clunk' I used to hear going over speed bumps at low speed is gone. The old bushings did not look worn, but they were harder than the new ones. The design of the fronts are slightly different from the originals, the cut is on the side and not on the top. Before anyone considers replacing struts or any other suspension part to get rid of the 'clunk', try this inexpensive and quick fix.
  3. My 96 LS (70K mile) is still on the original battery. I must be lucky. It is kept in garage at night and at work during the day. I would not be surprised to see it die this winter.
  4. 99lsguy, Metro Lexus -dealer at WWW.discountlexusparts.com Talked to Paul. 91 for the front, 101 for back. Pads about 100 for all. They are in Canada, so the exchange rate will determine final price. Like I mentioned, at 65k the rotors actually looked pretty good. I probably should have had them machined, but with the calipers off to do ball joints, and working on a Sunday AM, without a machine shop available, I bit the bullet and paid the price. I probably still spent less than having a dealer do the service without rotors, and had fun doing it.
  5. Finally got around to replacing the ball joints. At 65,000 miles my 96 LS has seen mostly city miies. The replacement was definitely needed. Rides great now. With my brother helping, we also replaced all four rotors, pads, brake line bleed, tranny fluid and lube bushings... in under 3 hours. Rotors probably did not need to be replaced. I am keeping them in case the new ones get messed up or someone out there needs a cheap replacement.
  6. I have a 96 and have installed a Drawtite hitch for the sole purpose of using a bike rack. This works great, and I don't have to put a rack on the paint.
  7. I replaced Goodyear Eagle (scary when wet) with Bridgestone Potenza 950e from tire rack. First 500 miles where ok. last 2500 miles these tires have been great. I can't remember the last time the Trac Control kicked, even when wet. 96, ls400 dark green/tan int 65,000 miles
  8. I recently had tires installed on my 96 LS400. The installer suggested checking the alignment. I agreed, even though this car drives in a straight line without fail, and has shown NO abnormal tire wear. When I picked up the car, he indicated he could not do the alignment because the lower ball joints had too much play and needed replacement. This car has only 62k miles. Is it reasonable to expect that the ball joints need replacement? Thanks. Bill
