There are plastic covers over the bolts that you have to unscrew. Take a small flat head screwdriver to pop off the covers, then you'll need a phillips screwdriver to unscrew the bolts. Pretty simple job.

trout, I recently bought a 2000 RX300 & have noticed the same rough idling as you described. It only seems to idle rough when it's in drive, not when it's in park. I've also noticed when it idles rough, the vibe is more apparent in the driver's door. Kind of strange that it's isolated there. Have you noticed that in yours as well?

NEVER buy an extended warranty other than one from the dealer. 65K people across the U.S. were burned by Warranty Gold in the last 6 months. Certainly don't think they'll be the last to go under... -
I've definitely noticed increased performance when I fill up with premium fuel. Frankly, it's somewhat surprising how dramatic the difference is...

I also just bought a 2000 RX300 with ~40K miles. Evidently, it had been a leased vehicle. It's a certified car that I got from a local dealer for $26K. Just sold my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was a decent SUV for me for 8 years, but I'm glad to have made the change. It's amazing how smooth the Lexus' ride is!
