2 different videos. (sound quality isn't great)

First is my Lexus -my stock Lexus mufflers

Second is me and my buddies Lexus -all the stock exhaust running it straight off the headers.

both the videos were taking with bad quality video. as far as the headers it sounded much better in person. and we put the exhaust backo but you had to remove the exhaust to take out the tranny. if you look into the related videos there are much better sound clips

You could also try your O2 sensors, but I think if those were bad they would trip your Chk Light.

The symptoms seem similar to what happens when O2 sensors are bad though.

Easiest thing to do is just remove the mufflers and leave it like that. It gives it a nice cool look in the winter because you can see your exhaust pour out of your wheel wells.

I've had no problems with mine, and it sounds great inside and out. Not like a truck V8, but a racing V8. I'll put some video up later so you can hear it.

(Also if you just take off all the exhaust and run it straight from the headers it gives the car a nice loud as $h!t exhaust note) ;)

I had a lower ball joint fail on me while driving one of my LS400's...

I replaced it myself at my school and it can be done in 30 mins if you know what to do. Very very easy job. All you really need is a floor jack, jack stand, a socket set, and a BFH (Big F***ing Hammer)

the ball joint cost $74 from Oriely's.

Use the LexLS tutorial as reference, but he is replacing the lower control arm and ball joint so he removed the strut. You don't need to do that at all, just remove the ball joint.

I marked the LexLS picture with what you should remove and X'd out the lower control arm. Just remove the 4 nuts on the ball joint (3 on the bar, 1 on the ball joint itself) and then you can take it right off.

I think you should be able to find exactly what you need. I would throw some leather conditioner on it a lot and maybe something over it to protect. I like to keep one of my microfibers with me and that way my elbow is resting mainly on it and not tearing anything up. Plus I can use the mf to clean up any dust or anything off the windshield. Niceeeeee.

Yea i thought as much. It's like that all the time. Highest it goes is a little above the first tick. What is it normally sposed to read? Cause i just bought a different lexus of the same year and it hovers around 75%

I'm gonna order up a thermostat and replace it. Hopefully that fixes it.

I've been having the same problem. My coolant level is fine though and I also recently replaced the cap.

But my temp gauge always reads very low and my car has a hard time heating the cabin during the winter months.

I have a picture of what my gauge is at after awhile driving.

Thermostat stuck open?

I'm getting a tranny from a buddy for $150. It's not new, but I'm not keeping the car I'm fixing it up nice and selling it.

The first thing I'd check is the ignition and the wires that you messed with while installing the starter. If you had it done at a shop, bring it back to them and ask them to look into it.

Otherwise...check the starter cable, the solenoid, the battery cable going to the starter. Also maybe even pull off the starter and check the teeth to make sure there hasn't been any grinding.

Other then electrical, I can't think of anything else since you really didn't mess with the fuel system at all.

try the hinge on it. i believe it's only plastic so it could be creaking

I'm looking for some advice from some people that have already done this.

on a First gen LS400 ('91) how hard/complicated would it be to replace a tranny?

And if you have any website links that explain it, that would be greatly appreciated if you could share those.

I bought another LS400 yesterday and when I was looking under the hood I noticed something missing in the far right corner. It was a black box that I was used to seeing on my first LS400, so I took the cover off and found a nitrogen canister under there right next to the brake booster. There was a relay that said "ABS" something something on it so I'm assuming it has something to do with the ABS. What I find weird though is that the other LS that I just bought of the same year doesn't have it. It's weird to think of a Lexus without ABS....

Is that was this contraption is used for?

I have a gen 1 LS400 and I have gotten it up to 135mph. There was some tire noise and wind noise from weather stripping, but other than that it was very smooth for going that fast.

I'll try your tips next thursday when i have another go at removing them.

I replaced the front struts on my lexus and they were a piece of cake. Then I moved onto the rear struts and found out that from 'Manager +' that you have to remove the rear drive axel and a ton of other stuff in order to get the strut out since it has such a deep pocket in the fender. I started to try and remove the bolts and shimmy the strut out past the drive shaft but the bolt hits some linkage and won't come out so I gave in.

Haven't started working on them again, but if anyone else has replaced their struts on their own it would help me out a ton if you could give me some tips on how you can make it an easier job to replace them. I don't really wanna spend 7 hours replacing my rear struts.

My "91 LS400 has been making a clanking noise with the front right strut since I bought it a year ago. It's time for new struts all around. My question is though, what are your recommendations as to what kind of struts I should get.

I was looking at a KYB setup because my dad said they are some of the best around. Any thoughts?

I got my sub out, now i just have to "subify" the grill that was covering the sub. I'm taking that fabric off because it flexes and makes a racket.

Any idea how to disconnect the wires so you can take that entire 3rd light harness off. There is a connector but it doesn't seem to want to let loose. Kinda seems like I am trying to pull it apart that wrong way.

I never thought of removing the stock sub and using that as a port. Scott, do you have any tips on how to do that?

And IS400, sorry I forgot to mention in the first post that I had a aftermarket system in my car.

A vented box (which I have) makes the sub pressure wave much more intense. So why wouldn't a vented trunk make the pressure wave more intense inside the car.

Also any idea about how I can stop my back deck from rattling. I've got foam inserts in the cracks right now and it helps a little.

I have a '91 Lexus LS400.

I want to put a port that goes from the trunk into the cabin area. Reason being is that my back deck rattles ALOT from the pressure my subs make in the trunk. That rattling is very annoying and cuts my sound quality. I figure if there are vents so that the pressure can release, it will lessen the rattling and at the same time make you feel the subs more while driving. (This car is already so sound-proofed that it deadens the kick from the subs.

My first idea was to drill one hole on the left side and right side of the stock sub area through the back deck into the trunk.

My second idea was to put a port in the back of the armrest of the back seat. (when you pull down the armrest it is the part behind it) Once I looked in my trunk though I found out quickly that would be a hard thing to do since the gas tank is in the way.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.
