  1. It's not necessarily a "buzz," but more of a rattle. It has gotten very annoying. Next time I take it in, I will tell the service advisor I want it fixed......

    Let us know what happens.....

Will do. You know I always can count on you for a response to any of my rattle/creak threads.

The funniest thing with me and Lexus, when I first bought the car April 07 I noticed this clicky clack in the rear when I went over bumps I took in in several times and really raised hell with Lexus (writing letters telling them about a design flaw) and Lexus Corporate refused to acknowledge the problem. I just found on the web a list of Technical Service Bulletins and as of April 08 there is now a bulletin for that problem. I am immortalized in a service bulletin... oh what a thrill..

My local Lexus Service department is awesome - they really try hard to fix things and never make me feel like I'm an idiot for asking. And always tell me to come back if I am not satisfied.

Love love my car... if they could just figure out a way to put it together with felt between every piece!

  2. Thanks. If I'm not mistaken, they just came out with a lowered suspension option for the awd's. But maybe it's not such a good idea if your in deep snow territory.

They did - it's the F sport suspension - but it's 1,000 installed, plus I would need the larger wheels to complete the look so add the rubber, wheels and suspension and I'm into the deal another 3 grand. Which is about 8 car payments...So I guess will just dream, or move to a warmer climate and get the 350

  3. Hello. I have a 2007 Lexus IS 250. I purchased it off the lot in December 2006. My vehicle has 28,000 miles.

I am having issues with my brakes. I notice a squeaking every time I brake. It's almost embarrassing to be driving a Lexus and hear squealing.

My dash rattles constantly and it reminds me of a car I once drove in college. It's extremely annoying.

Other than that I love my car. Has anyone else experienced these problems?

YES on all. This is the curse of the IS. But there are Technical Service Bulletins on these, so they are "fixable" . The brake pads can get changed out for free. You have two choices, ones with less brake dust and once that don't squeek. I chose the latter. They actually changed out the pads and the rotors for me for free at close to 28K - haven't had the problem again in 20K miles. The Dash rattle also can be fixed for free. They remove the dash and add a "noise kit" basically felt padding. I found the dash problem to reoccur, but I don't feel like having them take the dash out again. I now have moonroof noise (again) and passenger door buzz. Service is very responsive, but they didn't build the product so there is a limited amount they can do - but they try....But it is a beautiful car - I think the nicest on the road - always get complements.

  4. I've got a new one. It's in the passenger door. I don't know if it's the speaker, or in the door, since I'm always driving the car. I'll have to take it in, and I'm sure the techs won't notice anything, cuz it won't do it when they have it......

I can just push the arrow button on my A/C, to warm up or cool off, and the dash will crack. Changing temps in the car, is what I say it is. That doesn't bother me as much since it's not a "consistent" rattle, meaning over and over and over and.......

Jay, let me know how you like the '09. I've been thinking about a new one, but with the economy going the way it is, have held off a little bit..........

47,000 miles on my 07 AWD - I have the same one in the passenger door - as yet unfixed. My cureall used to be to have them "lube" the seals - but that's not it. Also the moonroof started to make noises again. I drive with the passenger window cracked and the music on at least low - to drown out the noise. I got the dashboard issue too but I am done with trying to fix that - don't want the dash pulled off a third ime.

  5. Yes, AZ that sounds very logical when you put it in those terms.

Until, of course, you have taken the car to the dealer more times than you care to count for squeaks and rattles - then the opportunity cost of taking the car back to the dealer for yet another squeak or rattle, instead of trying to go about your daily life, just isn’t there.

Turn the music up or trade it; I am currently utilizing the first part of my suggestion. I love the car – the looks, how it drives, even the Lexus service experience. The squeaks and rattles are about to do me in….

    Sad.

My IS same issues. After a while you just got to get on with your life. I turn the music on and crack the passenger window a bit. The problem is that the cars are just too quite inside I think, so you hear anything. And although there are a few on this forum who do not have any rattles or squeaks - I think it is rare not to - in fact I was told by a LEXUS Tech the GS is WORSE. My favorite story is my Cousin who is a die-hard Mercedes guy and said to me "I have never had a squeak or rattle in my cars"... I said to my wife "...let him lend it to me for a week I will find them!"

  6. I got a quote for $900 installed F Springs for my 2007 IS 250 AWD - lowers it about 1 - 1/2" total. I saw it on the Service Guys IS in the parking lot. I opted not to do it because if I really wanted the look - I wanted the larger wheel size, so then I needed new OEM rims and rubber say another $1900. So I bagged the idea. My understanding is you void the warranty unless you use the Lexus Parts installed by Lexus.

The issue is with all the LEXUS AWD sedans.- The GS as well. The 250 and 350 Rear Wheel Drive cars sit lower and look better. But 3 Grand to get the look seemed steep.

I was thinking when I trade it in next year or so I will negotitate a price with all the stuff I want on the next car.

  7. - I just got a front right flat tire. Sidewall from pothole. Unrepairable. I have stock brigestone potenza's (225/45/R17).

These are costly to replace and there seem to be better cheaper alternatives.

    - Im assuming I should replace both front tires so that tread is even? Theres 10k miles only.

    - Can I just buy two (say Michelen Pilot Exalto A/S) tires and use them as my front tires as long as they size is 225/45/R17 and leave the stock bridgestones alone in the rear?

    Thank You.

    is250 AWD

Same thing - only replaced one. Had 25K on the car. I really pressed them hard as to whether I would have problems, but there just wasn't alot of tire wear on the other three. It's interesting because the label on the tires when you buy the car says they may only last 25K. I am close to 50K and the tires are still in great shape. Mostly highway driving at 65 mph.

  8. this information has been posted earlier but is worth repeating. while this information works for lx470's up to 2002, it is up to you to check if the wiring for your vehicle is the same. you can watch dvd's on the navigation screen with a simple 15 minute fix. pull the wood panel off from the center of the dash. there are two clips towards the outside of the top of the panel and two about 6 inches down on the sides. remove the electric clock connection on the bottom of the panel and set aside. remove the four screws holding the navigation screen. behind the temp up and down button there is a grey connector. locate and cut the violet wire 2" from the unit. shrink wrap or tape off these wires. this elimimate the speed sensor turning off the video. in the same connector, locate and cut the red wire with the white stripe 4-5" from the unit. shrink wrap or tape off the end that goes to the wiring harness. strip the end coming from the unit and ground it to the top left screw holding the unit in the metal frame. this simulates the emergency brake being on. slip everthing back together and only watch videos while moving ONLY IF YOU ARE THE PASSENGER! many thanks to sal who posted this back in february of 2002. by the way i e-mailed doctor bypass on ebay to ask him what his makes his $95. unit better than this free fix and got no reply.

Please excuse my ignorance. My 2006 IS250 AWD w/ Nav has an in-dash 6 CD changer and the map DVD player which is hidden behind a face plate. It is not readily accessible. The faceplate has to be removed with tools to change out the map DVD (which I had my dealer do recently - cost $318 + tax!). The CD changer doesn't play DVD's. Can you watch DVD's with this system? Thanks.

    NO

  9. I have the nav, especially since the touch screen operates everything. - i like it. But to tell you the truth my wife's Garmin ($300) works much better and is easily updated.

Saw a brand new 2008 250 RWD (no nav) still sitting on the lot at Lexus of Northboro in Massachusetts. Likely to get a deal since that is a "southern car" - RWD configuration is a rare thing in the Northeast - could probably see it and deal on the internet. Also the nice thing about the RWD models is that they sit lower then the AWD models (the gap between the tire and the wheel well is a good 2 inches lower.

  10. I have a 2008 GS350 12000 miles no problem till I started to hear a tapping soung coming from the engine area I then narrowed it down to the fuel pump and brought it to Lexus and they listened and agreed that the pump was way noicey compared to another we listened too. They replaced it and It still makes that tapping sound wich you can hear in the car at a stop and just slowly taking off. then cant hear it .Now it lokks like they might try to say thats the way it is I have an appointment thursday with a head guy that hopefully will do something..

    Which dealership?

  11. Is it just me or has anyone noticed there are many repairs/bulletins on this car/Model? So far, New front Brakes at 11,000 miles, new Battery at 12,000 miles, New Rear view Mirror because it Vibrated when moon Roof open and now rattling on Front Dash Board when Cold...Dealer has been fantastic but this is excessive in my mind for a high quality car.

The IS250 is the same....I grew up in Wantagh :)

  12. I purchased and installed the 18-inch G-Spider wheels (pictures to come later, cuz I got some other things done, too), and I have to say that the ride is much nicer. On the 17-inch, it was a lower profile, and I could feel every nook and cranny in the road. With the 18-inch, not as low-profile, and is a much better ride. Just thought I'd share the info if anybody is interested in doing this.

And I got the spoiler and the dark chrome lettering. I couldn't help it.......

Wow I would have thought with the 18" rims you would have LESS rubber and a more bumpier ride (and therefore more rattles) How much did you pay for the rims and rubber? Where is the dark chrome lettering applied to?

  13. He thinks that my car can be fixed in less that or about 8 hours so I should not get a loaner, is that correct? What are the conditions for getting a loaner? This just weird and inapproperiate specially if I have to drive two hours to the dealership to leave the my car ther and drive back to work then drive back to the dealership, total 6 hrs which means a whole day!

Did anyone here experience such a pain?

Never have that problem. Even just for a standard 5,000 mile service - I just ask for one when I make the appointment. Believe me it's built into the prices at Lexus - it isn't free....

  14. Here is a discussion just recently about changing the battery on the remote. Battery replacement

As for the alarm, is it the factory alarm or an aftermarket alarm system? If your really concerned about the alarm going off all day and killing the battery, then maybe when you get to school, just disconnect the negative battery terminal until you can get it to the dealership for repair.

If you disconnect the battery you better have the radio code when you reconnect or I don't think the radio will work.

  15. i have a 2006 is350 with the 18-in ISP Mode alloy wheels. and well all my rims are flacking like the top layer of the rims is coming off.. what should i do? is it covered under warranty??

I had a similar problem with one of my wheel's on one of the spokes - the clear coat was just gone like a sheet of it came off some how and there was a jagged edge a the points where it came off. I went to the dealer and they said that they would refinish the wheel. I talked to my detailer and he said there was no way that it came off from his cleaning and that for a brand new car I should go back and say I wanted a new wheel. I politely did just that and Lexus dealer gave me a new rim. No problems with any other of the wheels since - and that was 30,000 miles ago and countless both touchless car washes and details later - obviously the clear coat on that one wheel was a manufacturing problem.

I have to say that my dealer had on many occasions surprised me thought - like replacing a rubber floor mat that developed a hole in it for free, and replacing not only the front brake pads for squeaking (TSB) but the rotors as well. for free and that was at 24,000 miles!

  16. I'm not a fan of clear bras. I had a 3M clear bra put on my 2005 RX 330 when it was new. The installation was great and the bra looked awesome for about two years. After you washed it, the bra would shine along with the rest of the car. I was very careful with the bra as to not get any wax on it or scratch it. I had the car for 3 and a half years and 60,000 miles before I got rid of it. By that time, the clear bra had developed a milky look to it. When I would wash it, it almost looked as if I forgot to wash the clear bra and the rest of the car shined like a new penny. It wasn't that bad and looked OK I guess, but I was starting to consider peeling the bra off. Now that I have a new 2008 IS 250, I think I'll skip the bra. I think I'll just try my luck with the paint chips. My suggestion is to pick the lesser of two evils - paint chips or a milky clear bra in 3-5 years.

Totally understand your opinion, but I wouldn't eliminate a clear bra. Firstly you can always peel off the bra and have it replaced in three years - but the chipping is relentless. I have a few chips on the hood above the bra...I have to say that the paint job is very unusual in that when you get a chip you actually see bear metal. On my wife's Honda at least you see the primer coat when you get a chip. Bottom line is how much do you drive. I drive 2,500 - 3000 miles a month. The license plate surround from the dealer actually got so chewed up with rock chips I had to replace it - I imagined what my front end would look like....
