We are taking the truck on a 4 hour trip, all highway. Can/should I tweak the height control or the suspension tension for optimum highway cruising?
-
Steve, great job! I envy your driveway... can't seem to get past the snow season here :)
do to the bad weather, I never did detail my car... should I still go with the meg. swirl/meg. polish/collinite 476 ? or should I incorperate the NXT product. (black paint) Thanks!
-
Blake, I can't believe that is the same car!! who would have thought there were new seats under all the grime :)
Did you use a 50/50 mix of woolite and water?

Canuk,
REF: whirring sound coming from transfer case on cold days.
please let me know if they and how they fix the transfer hum, thanks.
As for the knocking, as others have mentioned... look into the exhaust manf. I have a very faint tick on extra cold days that I think if just lifter noise/rocker noise before it warms up.

mojo, for what it's worth I run on the reg. stuff with no ping problems. Mobil 87 oct. gas makes my older LC ping but sunoco/Texico does not...
-
I second the meguires vinyl.
It leaves no gloss and does a nice factory look job. The spray is a little funky since the solution is like gel, but if you spray a towel first it works great. It also does well reg. plastic and clear plastic... no oily film!

Costco has the flip down unit for $750.. I don't remember the brand.
-
me too, but I think the spoiler is not that good looking :-)

how long do you let lexol sit on your seats before you wipe it off? I usually spray, then work it in with my hand, then wait 5 min. and wipe off.
-
where do you buy lexol on-line. My hardware store has it for $8 in small spray bottle.
This may sound crazie, has anyone tried using a hand lotion like lubriderm on there leather seats? I have used it on shoes and leather coat... it made them like new, I wonder if the seat work also benefit. Not that lexol has not worked and it does give that new car/leather smell everytime.
-
Glad it worked. I still have not given it a try... too cold.
Did you use it with water/woolite?
Any signs that it removed some of the dye color?
Thanks!

Thanks for the list, I will use it as a reference when our truck goes in for it's 60k
Are you saying that they covered the cost of the radiator under the drivetrain 6/70 warranty?
I take it that toyota cannot replace warranty stuff, I wonder is the have the small unique item like cabin filters, etc.
BTW, the only thing that I am not completely in love with is the handling around corners, it feels mushy and tips a little. Maybe we need more air in tire, what to you keep your suspension settings at? ours is in the middle between comfort and sport.

Just to report back our truck is doing great thus far and we are very happy with the purchase, great ride: smooth, extra quite and love the interior and the milage in a lot better than our 91 LC.
I was also offered the extended 3/36 for $1,700 but did not sign up yet. I am considering it, since I would think that any small problem would add up fast IE: steering wheel grind/exhaust manifolds crack.
Good advise on the 60k tune-up from toyota, we are at 53k right now.

It should be as easy as going to your local super market house cleaning section.
That is where my wife got the mr.clean version.
Where do I get a boar's hair brush? that sounds like it should also work well.

With all the sand, salt and negative degree weather, I have not looked over our truck much. I found a deep 6" scratch that dented in the front part of the fender.... I have no idea were in came from... we always park a mile away so as not to have any door dings.
Anyway, I need to have it fixed and I am worried if they can repair a small area very well and color match it so that you cannot notice a differnce. The truck is a black and the only blemish it had when we bought it was a small dent in the hood that I intend to fix at the same time. Can they fix small spots and have it look like new?
thanks for any advise.
-
They look like a cheap white foam blocks... you look at it a think, did I just pay for this thing? But it really does work, we use it around the house to remove marker marks that our 3 year old leaves everywhere :-)
I will try it on the bmw drivers seat since I cannot get the grime off with anything else I have tried... it always looks dirty/darker than the rest of the interior.
Thanks for the tip!

I can get the ticking to go away by starting the truck 5-10 min before I leave.
The gear noise is lvery load in such a quite cabin, it seems to be coming from the shifter or just under. It really hums for 1-2 miles each morning... any idaes on this?

I am greatly enjoying our new 2000 lx470. I noticed a few things that have me worried and am not sure if I should look into it.
On very cold mornings I can notice tick from the engine... lifters I would guess, is this ok or does it indicate that the engine has been abused (51K miles)
Also on cold morning, I can hear a humming gear noise that seems to comes from the tranfer case when first taking off from a stop up to 30 mph. I sounds like the trucks when they are in low gear ratio.
Both of the above go away once the truck warms up or is driven for a while in the case of gear noise.
What do you think? thanks!

I think you can do a lot less damage with the orbital PC.
Steve, my old black and Decker polisher was even smaller/cheaper than this unit and it sure saved me a lot of elbow grease... used with some 3M microglaze it gave some amazing results in the past.
This unit is an 11 amp and should be fine for me at home. As you know, you can cut through paint easily with rotary, especially on the edges and corners... It might not be the best tool for some. I'll report back when they ship it in two weeks :-)

acf,
I ordered a buffer from harborfrieght.com since I only use it twice a year.
it's on back order but also on special for 24.95 :-) FYI
-
our old LC had this feature and it came in handy in the winter. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
thanks.

Does the 2000 lx470 have the same problem? I notice a viration when keeping a steady speed on the highway of around 70MPH. not like a tire vibration but rather a mild vibration throughout the whole trunk.
Are tsb covered under the drivetrain warranty? a tsb is not the same as a recall, correct?
Thanks!

Thanks for that. I am afraid of the armorall because it seems to erase all the white icon on the turn signals and console.
do you put the woolite in a spray bottle?
how did the collinite 476 work for you?
-
thanks Steve, would you use them to apply armorall to the dash? also, should I use armorall to clean/shine the radio and shifter console, how about the wood trim and leather door panels? Can you give me a rundown of what products to use for the different interior parts.
I still have more to learn :)
