  1. Hi Guys!! :) Once again - thank you very much!! Hi SRK!! :) Thanks for the compliment re my NSX. I'll admit - it really is nice looking. Especially when you consider the fact that it's 14 years old and has over 135,000 km's on it. Oh sure - it has a few dings and scratches - but so do I. lol Like you - I never speed for fun. Oh no. That would be silly!! I only speed - as you do - for research purposes. Otherwise - it would be just plan foolishness. Hi daffy!! :) I'll admit - I never thought that I'd ever get some great advice from a 'daffy'!! lol What I'd like to know is why did you bother to check your throttle cable? What was happening to your car? Did you only discover it's condition by chance? Hi RFeldes!! :) I appreciate you breaking the law in the name of helping your fellow man!! [as good an excuse as any - I say!!] Yes!! I can't wait for MY car to be as fast as YOUR car. What a difference that will make. Car manufacturers brag about making their cars 1/2 second quicker to 60. So for MY car to reach 60 mph 4 to 5 seconds quicker is going to be better than buying a new car. Hi ArmyofOne!! :) Nothing new to update. Still trying to decide what to do. [and where to get my car fixed - IF NOT at the dealer] The guys at the dealership are a bit snotty - which I can't stand. Oh well.. I need to take an assertiveness training course. But really - not much TO do. This 'town' shuts down near Christmas. Speaking of which... please be sure to read the 'CanadaCraig's Christmas Message' that I posed in the General section. Merry Christmas!! Craig!! :)
  2. Hi Everyone!! :) I wish each and everyone of you the Merriest of Christmases. And may we all reflect back on the year 2005 - come this time NEXT year - and realize just how much better our lives have become. Much of how we feel about ourselves - AND our lives - AND our future - is up to us. It's time to move beyond blaming others for our lot in life - and grab hold of our dreams. Whenever we throw a ball - as most of you know - the way to hit a target is to LOOK at that target. More often than not - the ball will go just where we want it to go. Life is often like that. What we focus on is where we often end up. If you focus only on misery - you will continue to BE miserable. If you focus on the saddness of the past - you will most likely be sad in the future. If you focus on what you preceive to be your failures - you will continue to fail. So re-direct the object of your focus. Look at where you WANT to BE. NOT at where you have BEEN. Change direction. Change your focus. It's up to you. And THAT is one of the scariest realizations in life. It IS your life. It IS up to YOU. Where do you want to be a year from now? Ten years from now? Figure that out - and focus on it. Before you know it - even IF you don't make it - you'll be a lot closer to it than you are now. MERRY CHRISTMAS - to ALL OF YOU!! Craig!! :D
  3. Hi 90LS400Lexus!! :) Thanks for the input!! 12 seconds to 60 is quite slow. When it comes to performance - 'seconds' are a long time. SRK's LS [like most 1st generation LS's] can reach 60 MPH [from ZERO] in just over 8 seconds. [let's say 8.5 seconds for the sake of this message] To put that into perspective. - my NSX takes about 5.5 seconds to reach 60 MPH. That's only 3 seconds quicker than a 1st generation LS. MY LS takes 12.5 seconds. [again - a rounded out figure for the sake of this message] The difference between SRK's LS and my NSX is 3 seconds. The difference between SRK's LS and MY LS is 4 seconds. See what I mean? That's a LONG 4 seconds - and impossible to ignore. Hi SRK!! :) Thanks again. AND thanks for doing me a favour by breaking the law!! lol [is racing against time illegal?!] I'm sure you can imagine how taking an additional 4 seconds to reach 100 kph would feel. Like I said to 90LS400Lexus - impossible to ignore. Just double checking - are your absolutely SURE that our LS's have a throttle CABLE and that that CABLE controls a bellcrank [or 'lever'] which rotates a TROTTLE PLATE? I just don't want to be told by the Lexus guys the my car doesn't have a 'cable', etc. And IF that cable/bellcrank/throttle plate is NOT adjusted properly - would the ECM recognize that? [or ignore it?] Sorry if I'm repeating myself. I just want to be fully 'armed' before I go BACK to the dealer. I hate not knowing more about these things. Instead of collecting car brochures all these years - I should have picked up [and read through] a repair manual or two!! lol Also... did WE see each other Sunday afternoon? I was in my NSX coming up from the Victoria General Hospital road as you were heading towards the freeway. ['we' passed each other near those new 'luxury townhomes'!!] Not sure about the time - but 'we' acknowledged each other and 'you' [!!] were in a Cinnabar Red 1998 GS400. If that wasn't you - someone just stole your car!! lol :P Thanks to both of you. Craig!! :)
  4. Hi SRK!! :) Thank you very much!! I appreciate it. So - based on the problems my engine is having - it would certainly seem [to me - at least] that either the Throttle Bellcrank, cable, throttle place and/or air mass sensor is not functioning properly. I would assume [or should I?] that the ECM is ok otherwise a 'code' would indicate otherwise. [is that not true?] Are each of the above mentioned 'things' easy enough to check? [and/or adjust or fix or replace] Still no response to my email from the Lexus service guy. I'm not very good at sticking up for myself - so this really annoys me. [to say the least] Based on all the help you've given me - no doubt you're on Santa's 'nice list'!! Craig!! :)
  5. Hi Guys!! :) Thanks again for all of the great responses. Been busy - so I haven't had a chance to update anything. Sadly - there's not much to update. I emailed the service guy [at his request] a few days ago - but haven't heard back. [i'm trying not to let this annoy me!!] Well.. anyways. Two questions. Could someone PLEASE tell me EXACTLY [in detail] what happens when a person presses down on the gas pedal. [on a '93 LS400] What 'things' come into play? A cable? A computer? Anything and EVERYTHING. And.... What are my options IF the Lexus service guy says, "everything is fine and we are no longer interested in trying to 'fix' your car." [or words to that effect] What can I do then? I know there IS a problem - I'm convinced of it - but how do I convince someone else? The service guy [although pleasant enough] has been wrong before. The first time was when he gave me the old 'I should know - I'm a Lexus Service man' attitude about my car NOT having an A/C filter. I had to insist - over and over again - until - finally - the 'non-existant' filter was replaced. Oh well... The trouble with most places that fix cars is that once they find something that is not working properly [i.e the fuel pump] they STOP trying to find the problem. That may sound reasonable enough - but maybe the REAL problem caused the break down of the part they are replacing. Does that make sense? Obviously - as it turned out [because there was absolutely NO improvement whatsoever] the 'throttle control sensor' [which they replace first] and the 'fuel pump' were NOT the problem. sigh Thanks again, Craig!!
  6. Hi sainikai!! :( Can't help you out as far as getting cheaper parts is concerned - but I DID want to let you know just how sorry I was to hear about the accident. What actually happened? Craig!! :)
  7. Hi Guys!! :) Did you miss me?! lol :P Here's something that I found interesting. I wonder if THIS means anything. I - once again - digitally recorded my car's gauges will accelerating up to 100 kph. [62 mph] But this time - I only pushed down on the gas pedal about half way. [maybe a big more] The transmission shifted into 2nd gear at 4500 RPM and changed into 3rd gear at 4600 RPM. That's not the interesting part. What's interesting [to me at least!!] is that the car STILL took 12-13 seconds to reach 100 kph. In other words - there is no difference in getting up to speed at half throttle [or perhaps a bit more - can't tell for sure] OR full throttle. [as in - 'on the floor' from a dead stop] Still.. no 'brake-starts'. Just the old 'put the gas on and go'. Does this mean anything - do you think?! Thanks, Craig!! :)
  8. Hi Carl!! :) Good for you!! What a fantastic job. You should feel proud of yourself for creating something that will - no doubt - become THE reference point for all who love the LS. Just to help you finish off your page... According to the 'Road Test Review' in MotorTrend's January 1995 issue - the 1995 Lexus LS400 could reach 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. I would assume that the 1996 and 1997 models would be the same. According to the 'Road Test Review' in MotorTrend's January 1998 issue - the 1998 Lexus LS400 could reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. I would assume similiar results for both the 1999 and 2000 model year LS's. Once again - a wonderful page. Thank you for taking the time [and boy - that WOULD have taken a LOT of time] for creating it!! It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. That being true - your new LS 'generations' page has 39,000 words-worth of photos!! [no wonder you're tired!!] Craig!! :)
  9. Thanks RFeldes, KY350, obergc, SRK and Lex3486!! :) I really appreciate the help. The Tempo that beat me was bone stock. Nothing to suggest that it had been altered in any way. [even had that 'straw' Ford called an exhaust!!] Besides - it was driven by an older woman. [adding insult to injury!! lol] The speedometre seems fine. [and even more so - now - when you take what SRK said into consideration] Curt sent me a video of his 93LS gauges. [thanks again - Curt!!] I agree with his observation. At 100 kph - both cars [mine AND Curt's] are in 2nd gear - with the engines spinning at aproximately 4800 RPM. Below is a comparison of both cars. The following are aproximates. [but as accurate as I could tell] [Curt's Car only listed IF I could figure out what was going on!!] 0 to 60 kph - Craig's LS [5 seconds - at 4600 RPM] Curt's LS [also 5 seconds - but at 5200 RPM] WHY would the RPM be so different?! 0 to 80 kph - Craig's LS [9 seconds] Curt's LS [7 seconds] Could not tell RPM because both cars change into 2nd gear at that speed. 0 to 100 kph - Craig's LS [12 to 13 seconds] Curt's LS [9 seconds] 0 to 120 kph - Craig's LS [17 to 18 seconds] 80 to 120 kph - Craig's LS [7 seconds] As another point of reference - the following is for the 2002 ES300 that I had as a courtesy/race car!! lol 0 to 100 kph - 9 seconds 0 to 120 kph - 13 seconds [i am assuming that - like myself - Curt did NOT 'brake-start' his car. He just 'floored-it' like I did with my car] My engine DOES sound good - with the sole exception of 'pinging' occasionally. But other than that [and the inability to get up to speed as it should] it seems fine. Well.. I think I've exhausted both you AND me!! So there you have it. Any other ideas? IF any of you have made your own little video of your LS gauges as you get up to speed - I would love to see it. Please email me at.. nsxboy@shaw.ca Thanks again, Craig!! :)
  10. :( Oh no.... Hi Guys!! :( Well... I tested my car last night and it is - in fact - no quicker than before. It still takes 12 to 13 seconds to reach 100 kph. [and 17 to reach 120 kph] It DOES seem to feel better when NOT trying to get the most out of it [unless - of course - that's just wishful thinking] but the bottom line is - it's the same disappointing car - power wise. [yeah - I know - this seems to go against what I said in my last update - but what are you going to do] And that - I'm afraid - IS the question. What AM I going to do. The 'Lexus guy' [who is still waiting for me to tell him IF I think the car is better now - as I am waiting on him to tell me just how much all of this is going to cost me] had everything checked. They even compared my car directly - as in side-by-side - with another same year LS. Both were equally fast. [or slow - I suppose - depending on how you look at it] Chances are - the engine - the fuel system, etc. are fine. How could they not be - everything has been either replaced and/or checked. So what now? [if anything] I'm not sure I feel like going back to the dealer. THEY think everything is OK. [and why wouldn't they] Now I'm just 'the complainer'. Maybe I'm just not an LS kinda guy. Might as well buy a Honda Civic. Would get up to 100 kph faster [then MY car] and get nearly twice the gas mileage. :( I'm lost. Any ideas? Should I just forget it and learn to live with it?! Should I get rid of the car? [somehow] What would you do? [if anything] Thanks again, Craig
  11. First off - thanks Lexusfreak for the message. Hi amf1932!! :) With all due respect to our mothers - to me - 'Consumer Reports' is like having 'mom' test a car. Unless it's obviously 'practical' - then it's 'no good'. But not every car HAS to be 'practical'. [or 'smooth'] And every car has faults. The passenger seat in the 2002 Lexus ES300 that I had as a courtesy car [while my LS was being fixed] rattled and the engine was 'ruff' when pushed and not particularily quiet. The transmission often hunted for the 'right' gear to be in and the 'auto-wiper' feature was more annoying than helpful. But it's still a great car. And so is the 300C. My 'mom' thinks that my NSX is 'silly'. "What if you buy a BBQ at Costco - how would you EVER get it home in THAT 'thing'?!" Oh mother!! lol :P Craig!! :)
  12. Hi ArmyofOne!! :) [and anyone else still reading this!!] Finally got my car back. [yesterday] It's quite a bit better. In fact - it's surprisingly more powerful. [when 'pushed'] I'm quite pleased. Far too wet and windy to do any 0 to 100 kph 'tests' - but even if it's not any quicker [and I suspect that it is] the fact that the car actually accelerates when I want it too - without hesitating - is SO NICE. Do you know how I first knew that it was finally fixed? [and I think it's safe to say that - even though I usually like to wait a bit longer before being so bold] I was about half way through a long drive - last night - when it dawned on me that I was NOT thinking about it. Usually - the lack of appropriate responses to the gas pedel kept reminding me [over and over again] that there was indeed a problem. I'll keep an 'eye' on it and give one more update in the next couple of days. The interior of the car DOES smell of gas [for a few seconds] when I first get into it - but apparently that's normal when a fuel pump is replaced and the smell should go away in a few days. [so I was told] They didn't actually remove the gas tank [as I was lead to believe by the 'lady' who was taking over for my 'usual guy'] but they did [so they said] examine the contents of the tank very closely. Everything looked fine. [so that's good] But I suppose it should be fine - considering all of the gas that I've poured into it since first getting it. I saw the old fuel pump. The 'sock' really was dirty. The pump itself [when tested by 'pinching the fuel lines to see how it would respond] would increase in pressure and then quickly decrease again. It was unable to meet the demands of accelerating hard. [so I was told] This certainly makes sense when I think of how annoying the car WAS [!!] when I was trying to go FAST. Fingers crossed that my LS will continue to impress. Now... what about those struts?! lol :P I truly appreciate all the help. Craig!! :)
  13. Hi Guys!! :) I found Santa's 'nice list'. None of your names were on it. What gives?! lol :P Click on THIS to get lots of info on the all-new Toyota Avalon. Sounds quite interesting. [epecially the 7.1 surround stereo, 280 h.p V6 and push button start!!] Should really give the ES330 a run for 'our' money. Craig!! :)
  14. Hi Lexusfreak!! :) I understand what you're saying - but really - there is no such place as 'America'. You could say 'The Americas' [as in North and South] but there is no such country as 'America'. The U.S.A. is actually the United States OF America. You also could say - and rightfully so - that Canada is the United Provinces OF America. U.S. Citizens, Mexicans and Canadians are all North Americans. So instead of Motor Trend declaring that 'America Builds a Winner' - they should have said [perhaps] that 'North America Builds a Winner'. But all that said... Cars built in the U.S.A. are concidered 'domestic cars' in Canada just as cars built in Canada are consideried domestic cars in the U.S.A. [i believe Mexico also has 'domestic status' insofar as cars being built is concerned - but I'm not 100% sure about that] Craig!! :)
  15. Hi Levi!! :) Did you mean to say - "when the car was HOT" or "when the car was accelerating"? When I bought MY LS [a 1993 model] it too had a very loud ticking sound - just as you described. [but only when accelerating] Having the valves adjusted quieted things down quite a bit. But there is another ticking sound that you should be aware of. [but it's only noticible when idling] And that sound is coming from the fuel injectors. [a perfectly 'normal' sound - by the way] But as silvermate said - NOT adjusting the valves - "........poses no real threat to the car." So I'd leave it for now if I were you. [or if I were your girlfriend!!] Is that what I meant?! lol Well - you know what I mean - I'm sure!! :D Craig!! :)
  16. Hi ArmyofOne!! :) [and everyone else] No new updates - I'm afraid. The dealer STILL has my car. But you would think - at least - that they would have phoned to let me know that they're still working on it. But they didn't. Oh well. A bit rude - I thought. [especially when you consider the fact that I phoned home every half hour after 2 pm to see if they left any messages] But... what can you do. How much is all this going to cost? I don't know. But I've left a note with Santa telling him that it might be a lean Christmas at MY house. [maybe milk - but probably no cookies] The Ford Tempo I was referring to was one of the first ones. [like a 1984 model] Those Tempo's [and Mercury Topaz's] had a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder that produced a heart-stopping [lol] 84 h.p. OH BABY!! Team that with an automatic and have it beat my LS in a race - and I'm sure you'll understand WHY that was so upsetting to me!! lol The Contour/Mystique was a more up-level car than the Tempo/Topaz. As an aside - I'm going to miss the ES300 I'm driving!! Craig!! :)
  17. Hi KY350!! :) Thanks!! I hope so too. If 'things' are NOT 'fixed' THIS time - then I don't know what I'll do. [because everything would have been tested or replaced - insofar as the fuel system is concerned] As for acting half my age - I'd love that. I'm 41 now - so acting 20.5 [!!] would be great. [and still legal!!] And considering the fact that I was 30 when I was born - it will be a whole new experience for me. :D Hi UCF3!! :) The Torque Converter seems to be OK and there has been no mention of oil or pipe leaks. But who knows. I'm actually a bit nervous about all this. [a lot nervous - in fact] I hope they really DO know what they're doing. Quite a few times now I've pick up my car only to discover that whatever they did had no positive effect on the car AT ALL. Keep your fingers crossed for me - OK? [and that goes for the rest of you too!! lol] Hi ArmyofOne!! :) Any updates? Well... I think so. [i hope so!!] They still have my car. [and I still have theirs!!] Did you know that putting miles on someone else's car is considerably easier to do than putting miles on your own car?! lol The guy who I was dealing with - was home sick on Saturday. But I talked to the lady who was taking over for him. SHE said that they are going all the way on this. ["the whole nine yards"] Apparently [and I'll believe it when I see it - so to speak] they have removed the gas tank and sent if off to be cleaned. She said that they are going through the entire fuel system with a fine tooth comb - making sure everything is as it should be. [again - we'll see] I really hope this is it. It really bothers me to drive a 4.0 litre 250 h.p. ANYTHING that can't beat a 4 cylinder Automatic Ford Tempo. As an aside - I can't help but think that the fuel pump was probably OK - but just really clogged up. That would seem to make more sense - considering how smoothly the engine revved, etc. Oh well..... How much is all this going to cost?! [suddenly - I'm not feeling very well!!] lol Thanks again. Craig!! :)
  18. Once again - I really appreciate all the help!! Hi ArmyofOne!! :) On the first 'rev' - I hesitated. The second rev is how it always sounds. I appreciate the offer of allowing me to use your name - but an oportunity to throw 'names' around didn't come up. I appreciate the info on the torque converter - too. Thank you. We often think of the Beethovens of the world as being geniuses - but whoever invented the torque converter is obviously pretty darn smart. As for 'creeping forward' - yes it does. [but it's supposed - isn't it?!] Hi KY350!! :) I appreciate you taking the time to see just how quickly your car gets up to 100 kph - AND for letting me know the results. All of this helps!! AN UPDATE I brought my car in yesterday. [as most of you know] A Lexus 'tech' and I went for a drive. [he drove] He noticed the lack of power. He tested the torque converter. That was fun - I felt like a punk as the rear tires screached while we were stopped at a light!! [not only did I feel half my age - but half as smart - too!!] He didn't feel anything was wrong with either the torque converter or catalytic converters. [based on the test drive] He said that a smooth rev out of gear doesn't really prove anything because it takes relatively little fuel to rev an engine out of gear. He thought it was particularily slow off the line but felt that it was ok once it got going. I suggested to him that is was still slower than it should be. It was odd being in the passenger seat. I think it was probaby the first time I've been in a car and NOT behind the wheel - in YEARS!! They still have my car. I got a phone call today letting me know that the problem seems to be the fuel pump. When they 'pinched' the fuel line - in an attempt to force the fuel pump to work harder - it didn't. Also - the fuel pump filter [i.e. 'sock'?] was quite dirty. A new pump is on order. Might get it tomorrow. [saturday] Wouldn't it be odd if I was right all along - and the problem WAS caused by 'bad gas'? If I do end up being right - I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that!! lol Oh well.. there is still plenty of time to prove me wrong. [and I'm sure they're working on THAT as we speak!!] In the meantime - I have a nice silver with black leather 2002 Lexus ES300 to drive. Not sure I like the looks of the car - but it's very nice to drive. And the leather is so soft. [can't make my leather that soft - can I?!] Thanks again. I will keep you all posted. Craig!! :)
  19. As I'm running out the door.... I forgot to ask. WHAT does a torque converter DO?! [and how could that be the problem?] Thanks, Craig!! :)
  20. Thanks Mick, ArmyofOne, SRK and kcpth!! :) I appreciate the input. Just a quick note this time. [i should be somewhere else - but I'm late as usual!!] Would the fact that my car REVS freely - out of gear - support SRK's belief that the engine itself is NOT the problem? Sounds logical enough - but I just want to double [and triple] check EVERYTHING before I march into the dealership on Thursday!! You can click on THIS to go BACK to my little Lexus movie page and see and hear my Lexus rev. The slight delay at the beginning of the 'rev' is caused by ME being gentle on the pedal - at first. But it revs up to the redline very quickly. [even from idle] And SRK - would it be OK with you if I 'name-dropped' your name at the dealership? I'd like to be able to say "a guy I talk to on the net - who just bought another Lexus from YOU GUYS - thinks that the problem is NOT the engine or with the gas but perhaps has something to do with the throttle linkage, cats, torque convertor or maybe even the traction control throttle plate being stuck partially closed." IF that's NOT OK with you - please let me know before noon tomorrow!! [and I know that others have made some of the same suggestions - but because SRK actually goes to the dealership I'm going to - it might give those suggestions a bit more weight] Thanks again, WISH ME LUCK!! Craig!! :) ps And by the way - SRK - congratulations on your 'new' car!! :D pps Now I'm REALLY late!! lol
  21. Hi SRK!! :) I appreciate the help. I also appreciate the offer to go for ride, etc. However - I'm just not comfortable with that idea. [for one reason or another] Nothing personal - I assure you. My car is going back in on Thursday. I'll be sure to mention the throttle linkage. I'll also ask them to check the 'cats' to see if something is wrong there. Trouble is - now [i think] they're humouring me because THEY don't think there is a problem with my car. But I wonder how satisfied they would be if a car they bought took anywhere from 4 to 6 seconds LONGER to get up to 100 kph then other cars of the same year, make and model. Hi ArmyofOne!! Thanks for the suggustions. I'll ask them [this Thursday] to do a fuel line pressure test. [if that's possible] But only after everything else has been checked, fixed and/or adjusted. [such as the throttle 'butterfly', etc.] If it IS 'bad gas' and varnish HAS narrowed the fuel lines - then what?! Can something like that be cleaned? Or is that a HUGE job? [i.e. huge $$$] Oh no... I'm getting myself all worried again!! As for testing it from 0 to 60 - I've tried everything - ECT on, ECT off, pedal to the metal, pedal just to the overdrive button, pedal half way down THEN to the floor. Nothing makes it faster then what you saw on the video. In fact - the video is the quickest my car CAN get up to 60. Craig!! :)
  22. Hi Guys!! :) You can put THIS on my 'Christmas Wish List'!! Craig!! :)
  23. WOW!! Just look at all the great responses!! Thanks!! Hi Joe!! :) LOL Hey!! That sounds like a great idea!! [it really does] Will you post bail?! lol Trouble is - the way my car is now - by the time I hit 160 kph - I'd be home again!! Hi 99lsguy!! :) Yes - as you know - I've done a lot to my LS since I bought it just over a year ago. Complete valve job, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new water pump, new fuel filter, new timing belt and accessory belt, etc. The injectors have been cleaned - twice. The fuel pump has been checked and I've had several oil/filter changes. Even the transmission and differential fluids have been changed. And just last week [after all of the computers were checked] one of the 'throttle control sensors' was replaced. [because it - apparently - wasn't 'arching' as it should have been] Still... after all of this... I can't out race an automatic Ford Tempo. [how humiliating!! lol] Could it be 'varnish' build-up in the fuel lines?! [because of the fuel that was allowed to go 'bad' - courtesy of the previous owner] Hi GRAND_LS 4!! I wish you could help me too!! But YES - it IS slow. And now I know just HOW slow. Thanks to Curt - who emailed me a video or HIS '93 LS gauges as he drove as quickly as he could up to and beyond 60 mph. His car is so much quicker than my car. My car - in comparison - is pathetic!! Hi blake918!! :) It does sound kinda nice - I'll have to admit. But that just adds to the confusion. [insofar as trying to find out what the problem is] As for what's been done to my car - please read my response [above] to 99lsguy. If you like nice engine sounds - you should hear my NSX. [click on the link below and click on NSX MOVIES found on the left hand side of that cardomain.com site of mine] I appreciate you taking the time to test your car. 7.8 seconds sure sounds like a lot more fun than 13 seconds!! [well... when it comes to cars at least!!] I'd also like to hear how fast those 290 h.p. LS's are!! Hi Lexusfreak!! :) I appreciate what you're saying - however - every '90 to '94 LS road test that I've read has come up with 0 to 60 mph test results similiar to the one's proclaimed by Lexus. In other words - pretty darn close to 7.9 seconds to 60 mph. Sure - a few tests of have taken a bit longer - like the one in 1994 that pitted the LS against the new Cadillac Sedan de Ville. [the LS in that test took 8.7 seconds to get to 60 - if my memory serves] Still.. when comparing my car with Curt's car - there is no doubt. My car is a slug. Hi UCF3!! :) My 1993 LS400 only has about 68,000 miles. So I would hope that an engine-rebuild is NOT in the cards!! I'll talk to my dealer about the torque converter. Thanks. I genuinely appreciate all the help. Any other thoughts? PLEASE don't hesitate to share them with me. Craig!! :)
  24. Hi KY350!! :) I appreciate the response to my quest for help. I bet you [at first] were quite surprised at just how quickly my LS got to 120 MPH then!! lol I look forward to hearing just how quickly YOUR car gets to 60. [or should I say 100 kph!!] Hi lovlex!! :) Thanks for the reply. Yes - I think it sounds pretty good. Which is odd - in a way. It even drives quite nicely. So why is it so slow?! Hopefully I'll find out soon. I just want to make sure that my car really IS slower than most generation ONE LS's. It also doesn't seem to want to go beyond 100 mph [160 kph] or so. At least I've never been able to get beyond that. [because I always run out of both road AND nerve] This is why I posted this message and took the time to create that little video. [which quite a few have bothered to see but not bothered to comment on - YET] Curt!! :) I really REALLY appreciate you taking the time to mpeg your gauges as you drove YOUR LS up to 60. AND for letting me know that it took 8 to 9 seconds to accomplish the 'feat'. [and still less than 10 even with the TRAC light flashing] So obviously - my LS is not as quick as it ought to be. My LS - like yours - is as tuned up as it can be. There is even a new 'Throttle Control Sensor'. [the dealer thinking that THAT might have been the culprit] It made no difference - unfortunately. I'm also 'running' on Chevron 94 octane. My car did have [still have?] a bad gas problem when I first bought it. The fuel injectors have been cleaned and the fuel filter has been replaced. Both of which helped. I wonder if the filter that is attached to the fuel pump might be clogged up a bit. It's a bit like trying to find a mouse in a football stadium. I'd love to see your mpeg. My email address is nsxboy@shaw.ca Thanks again. Hi GSsoldier!! :) Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that your car has the same problem as mine. I wonder - did your car ever have a 'bad gas' problem. [the problem - with my car - was caused by the previous owner leaving the car parked half the year - EVERY YEAR - while she went 'south' to help her old bones - so I've been told] If I find out what the problem is - believe me - you'll hear about here!! So stay tuned!! AND for the rest of you? Have you watched the little video yet? If so - please let me know if YOU think that my LS is taking longer than it should to get up to 60 mph. [or 100 kph - as is the case] Thanks again, Craig!! :)
  25. Hi Guys!! :) Please click on THIS and download a 4MB video of my 1993 Lexus LS400 gauges as I am going from zero to 60 mph. [and beyond] The results are always the same. Could you THEN [after watching the little video] let me know IF I am imagining things or IF my LS400 really DOES take longer than it should to get up to speed. I would really appreciate it. For comparison purposes - it would make more sense if other owners of the 1st generation LS would respond. [but I would be grateful for any responses] Thank you very much. Craig!! :)
