  1. I let my boyfriend drive my 93 sc400 and he's 6"1'. For the most part it's comfortable for him, but when going over speed bumps his head will touch the roof. Also something to think about, he moves the seat all the way back so there is absolutely no leg room for anyone in the seat directly behind him. Guess you'll need to drive one and see for yourself if that's going to be a problem.
  2. Hey all. It’s time for me to go get my oil changed in two weeks and I figured while I’m at it I should get quite a few other things checked out too. But, I need help prioritizing the list. I’m able to spend about $600 for parts and labor this month and will have the same budget for late March. The car is a ’93 SC400 that just hit 70,000 miles last Saturday. I’ve owned the car since August of ’06 and am not sure when the last time fluids, belts, etc. were changed. I had the break pads changed in August and just had my left window regulator replaced in January but as far as scheduled maintenance goes I’m in the dark. What should have been done by now? Here’s what I’m hoping to have done by the beginning of April: 1. Have all fluids flushed and completely replaced. That includes break, transmission, coolant, and power steering. Since I don’t know when these might have been changed before is it ok to just have it all washed out and start new? Also (typical girl question here) what other fluids should I have this done with? I want to try and get every single one changed but aside from what I listed I don’t know if I’m missing anything. 2. Have the radiator checked for rust and leaks, possibly replaced. I refilled my windshield washer fluid at the end of January and noticed that my coolant was brown which makes me think that my radiator is rusty or that red and green antifreeze may have been mixed at some point. (this is the reason I want to have ALL of the fluids changed ASAP.) 3. Check breaks / pads. The ones I have now are 7 months old but squeal like a city bus. 4. Find out why it takes half a tank of gas to drive 100 miles on wide open (no stop and go) freeways every Sunday. (Air filter, oxygen sensors, what else?) 5. Have condensation removed from inside of headlights. Prepared to fully replace them. I should also add that the car is not going to a dealer for repairs, but a mechanic in my neighborhood that specializes in imports. Would love to know if there’s anything I left out that should be addressed immediately and which things on my list need to be done first. And, is $1,200 a reasonable amount to have all of this work done for? Thanks!
  3. I have a '93 SC 400 that has a hand full of issues with the controls on the driver's side door. The mirrors, seat settings, and speakers all don't work. (didn't work when I bought the car so I don't know how long this has been going on.) The cd player had to be disconnected because it was draining the car battery so I'm thinking that there is a possibility that this could be part of the speaker issue if it was done incorrectly, but what about the other two? I'm trying to prepare myself for the repair bill when I take it in but wanted to see if any of you have had these issues and if so, how much cash should I expect to pony up to get them fixed? But of course the main question is, what the heck is going on?
  4. Hey all, This is my first Lexus and actually, the first non american car I've owned. I got my 93 SC400 back in August '06 from a family friend. Couldn't say no when I found out the car had 68,000 miles on it and the asking price was $4,000. It's definitely the nicest car I've ever had and it took me a while to get used to how quick it can scoot. Had inspection and tune up / alignment done at Hoy Fox Lexus in El Paso, TX by owner (two days before I bought it). In late August I had the car shipped from my parents house in Texas to my home in Boston and all was well till I took it on the first big road trip. Driving on the freeway at about 65mph I noticed the car was really wiggly. So much in fact that I really had to fight the wheel just to stay in my lane. Then noticed that it only happened when we were on old roads with deep ruts in them. This problem has tapered off since then and, while I don't think it fixed itself, driving those same roads has suddenly gotten much smoother. Would love to know if anyone has an idea of what this can be. Other problems I have: Condensation in the headlights temp LCD blacks out in cold weather factory CD player had a short in it, kept draining the car battery. (Disconnected it and listen to my ipod instead) Spedometer needle light flickers or goes dim on occasion Trunk never stays open Key batteries are dead The driver's side door is a mess: mirror switch doesn't work power seat memory doesn't work left speakers are out and the one that really kills me - driver's side window regulator broke. (how the heck can you be proud of your car when you have to open the door to pay a toll?) So, these problems are all on the to do list with the window being #1. Don't have the tools or know-how to fix any of these myself so it looks like I'll be making a few trips to Lexus of Watertown in MA. Really not looking forward to paying for any of it though. Either way, I really love this car.
