  1. This is obviously a much more complicated topic than I first thought. Look here and do a search on "keyless" at the Club Lexus forum: http://clublexus.com/forums/search.php?s= Whooo! Is your solution in there somewhere? Tom

  3. That sounds wrong. Maybe they meant the "this radio will be disabled if removed" feature. The radio goes braindead after the power has been disconnected for a certian time. I think it's turned off by default and the dealer can revive it. But anyway, if you're tossing the radio in the trash; what difference does it make? Tom
  4. I just read your earlier post for the first time. I immediatly thought "He just bought a digital phone". I tripped over that problem with my setup, the phone always made a PFFFSSST sound on the radio and a really loud, ugly burb if my mp3 player was running. I have noticed that repositioning the phone hanger and doing a better job of laying the power supply wires out have improved the noise to the point that I can just ignore it now. You might consider pulling the head unit and breaking into the harness to install an EMI noise filter close to the case. How about adding some improved case grounding for better shielding on the head unit? Tom
  5. Ash, My 2000 ES300 is a Pioneer. Pull the radio and look on the bottom of the case. You may have to remove the radio from a DIN rack first. If it's a Pioneer it should have this sticker: KEX-M8196ZT is the Pioneer model number Tom
  6. Larry, Just one question; where was your amplifier? I'm trying to find the amp in my 2000 ES300 to do something similar - cut-in a mp3 player on the radio or CD wires. Tom
  7. I just edited my post to list the model year - 2000. It's definitely not under the driver's or passenger's seats. It's pretty easy to look under there, just the seat motor is visible. Tom
  8. 2000 ES300 I have the Lexus Premium Sound System with the Pioneer head. I've searched high and low and cannot locate the amp. - not in the trunk - not under the passenger seat - not spotted yet in the dash near the head unit. Where is it?? Tom
  9. This has changed on the 200 ES300: The ashtray is now 2 clips on the top corners and 2 screws on the bottom corners. The screws are hidden by the shifter deck. the deck pops out with 4 clips. The ashtray frame can be reused to mount stuff; there's loads of room here. It is not a DIN slot, it's smaller. Tom
  10. I am almost done with the install. The NEO35 is a harddrive based mp3 player with RCA Lineouts & a RF modulator. See the Best Buy ad in yesterdays paper - $400 for the 20 GB model. http://www.ssiamerica.com/products/neo35/index.shtml I put the main box in the trunk. Ran the 12VDC line, Line level cable and wired remote cable in the cable track under the passenger side sills. I removed the ashtray and replaced it with the wired remote on a black, blank panel custom cut (I only lost 2 fingers doing it!). I used the ashtray mounting frame. Notes: 1- to remove the ashtray, first remove the shifter deck cover. It just pops up & off. Also take off the 1/2 inch filler strip above the ashtray - pops off. . 2- Get the shift lever out of the way, move it to low gear. --- put on the parking break --- keep the key out of the ignition; you should not have the power on when mucking about inside the dash. --- See that 1/2 inch square plastic "button" just above the P at the shifter? It's a cover like a battery cover on a toy. Slide it forward and out. Now see a white button underneath? Press it down and slide the shifter out of park - without a key. . 3- While you've got the shifter deck off, look at the aft end of the metal frame work. It's a mounting slot for something; smaller than 1 DIN. We should be able to put something in there! Tom
  11. Do I really have a Pioneer Radio?? As you may know, I'm in the middle of researching a radio swap in my 2000 ES300. I've posted my OEM radio removal guide in the workshop. Click here to download the document. In one of the last photos, you can see the sticker on the back of the radio - it says Pioneer. In looking at dash kits for a double DIN replacement, I keep coming across this type of diagram fascia radio It clearly shows that the radio I have (AM/FM/TAPE/CD buttons arrayed on the right side) is a Nakamichi!!! Any guesses as to what I really have? A Pioneer knock-off of a Nakamichi? Tom
  12. Steve - can you edit your post title to show the year of your ES300? I can see it's not a 2000. Lexus 2000 ES300 OEM Radio Removal A new workshop paper is available. Click Here Tom

  14. I've put together a workshop paper on removing the OEM radio in a 2000 ES300. It's a 1.3 MB PDF document with text and photo's. Click here to download the document. The usual warnings apply; if you break something doing this, you own it! Details: 2000 Lexus ES300 Pioneer radio/tape player combo Premium Sound System no CD player (cable is behind the glove box) Amplifier: I can't find it! Not in trunk or under seat. Tom
  15. Percy, I've heard quite a bit about your GS/ES300 electrical book. Still for sale? I've also heard about a book called "Asian Automotive Electronics Handbook by AES" (or something like that). Is it worthwhile? I can't find it on the web. Thanks Tom
