  1. I just had the brakes on all four wheels redone (brand new rotors and brake pads). When I'm braking at around 15mph, everything works perfectly and the breaking feels smooth and safe. However, between 20 and 60 mph, the front of the car (specifically the steering wheel), vibrates/shakes fairly noticeably. Once I slow to a lower speed though, its fine. What could the problem be, considering I already had significant brake work done?
  2. My 97 ES has the seemingly rare AVS suspension option. The car dirves fine on the highway, but in bumpy city driving, the rattling of the suspension gets rather uncomfortable. My mechanic checked out and said that what he saw was so complex, he wouldn't even know where to begin. For all intents and purposes, the AVS is pointless. I could definitely do without it. Is it possible to replace the AVS struts with regular struts? I've looked through some older posts, and the result doesn't seem to be too clear. Has anyone succesfully (and relatively cheaply) replaced the AVS struts? The only place that seems to even know how to fix the system is Lexus themself, and they'd charge around $2-3K for it - a BIT out of my price range. If anyone knows much about disabling the AVS system and replacing the adjustable struts with regular ones, I'd be VERY grateful!
  3. I just bought my 1997 ES300 with 92K mi. It wasn't taken care of as perfectly as it should have been, and I have no service records of the vehicle. The car has never had any major issues/repairs, but I have a feeling a few may be due. The engine runs beautifuly smooth - acceleration is perfect. When I break however, the breaks let out a mild squeek, and the front of the car seems to vibrate. In another thread, I was reccomended to either resurface or replace the rotors. I did a farily thorough search through the forums, and this seems like it may be the issue. Would a rotor resurfacing/replacement seem to fix this? Also, what would this repair cost at a dealer vs. an independent mechanic (such as midas). Thanks in advance!
  4. Came across this thread while browsing through the forums... I just bought my 1997 ES300 with 92K mi. It's in a metallic green color, with gold emblems. Tan interior. The car has never had any major issues/repairs, but I have a feeling a few may be due. The engine runs beautifuly smooth - acceleration is perfect. When I break, the car shakes a bit, and also, the car doesn't seem to be absorbing bumps - I'm not getting that "floating" feeling, bumps feel tight (suspension issue perhaps? struts?). The exterior is a handful of small, barely noticeable scratches and dings, and a few tiny rust spots around the grill. It could use a waxing, but other than that, the exterior is in great condition. The interior is in very good condition, though it could use a thorough cleaning. The stero/cd changer work perfectly, but I'm going to replace the faulty radio display (already ordered the part from Pioneer). Besides these issues, the car runs great, and I have a good feeling it will last me many years. Based on the issues above, any reccomendations on what repairs/service I should get now? Oh, and the price? $5,600 How's that for a deal?
