  1. Microphone for OEM car phone...handsfree...which is on the left side of the s.wheel on my 400.

There is also a grill to the right of the s.wheel on the dash (near to ones knee) which is where the interior thermometer resides. It allows the climate control to function/adjust by measuring interior temps.

That or maybe your car hasn't thought of anything to say...

  2. I have had my SC400 for a couple of months now. I am the second owner. It just reached 119,000 miles. I have had it in to lexus for the power steering pump replacement.($1316) They are telling me the timing belt that turns the Cams was originally specked to be replaced at 120,000 but they dialed it back to 90,000 miles. They want me to get it done right away. I am trying to set the cash aside for them to do it. They Did Do a really good job on the power steering. They are saying it is a job of basically over $1000. I am also considering getting the water pump replaced and some front oil seals at the end of the cams only because what are the chances they are almost at the end of their life, and most of the labor is already done to do the timing belt. What does anyone think? I want a quality replacement on the belt soon, but I am not a rich man. Any experience on when this might break (under normal wear and tear), how long do I really have to do this before it becomes A dangerous situation?? In miles of course. can I go another 10,000 miles or no? I am told on the 95 if the belt did break it could cause major valve and head damage, I don't want that. Any answers or experience might help me sleep a little better at night for now. Thanks

Firstly, there was a recent thread discussing if the engine is an interference motor. It was concluded that it was not through '97 if my memory serves me. That said, you do not need to feel rushed about the timing belt. The worst result would be it snapping and needing a tow. No valve damage would occur on your generation. Further, a response to the thread was a gent with something like 175k on his original t-belt.

Second, if you have to save money for dealership costs its time to find an independent tech. $1,316 for the steering pump  !!! Christ, I bought the pump and alternator myself and had a trusted independant perform p.s pump, alternator and belts for something like $175 (all in all $475 for parts&labor). I would post on the other (more active) Lexus forum for advice regarding a independant Toyota tech. It is just a ten year old Toyota 4.0 and a former master tech with near any import backround can bang these jobs out no problem. I often print out step by steps and leave them in the passenger seat for my guy.

    Hth.

  3. The passenger seat on my '95 SC400 is suffering from a similar issue. Here is a link to some feedback I received:

Do let me know if you find a resolution to the problem. I put it on the backburner for now waiting for summer weather. While I appreciate this individuals suggestion it is a little over my head(tools/space/talent) and am hoping for an easier solution.

I think my best bet is to try to find a seat motor out of a wreck with a functional regulator.

    Hth.

  4. Yes, I too feel this forum is lacking. Not only is there little action, but all too often the writing is dreadful. I visited Club Lexus and while there is considerably more postings (a greater community vibe if you will) the writing is even worse. Strikes me as a bunch of uneducated 20 somethings dumping all their dough into a ride with questionable results. Not to mention the horrid advertisements bouncing all over the screen. :o

There is no fix...I am just venting. :cries:

No, not all forums are like this. I belong to a BMW forum that is incredible. :D

  5. I know at one point I saw a TBelt kit for approx $550 which included tensioners and the like. Shall I assume this is what you are referring to as aftermarket and that I should purchase the parts from the stealership?

    :cries:

    Thanks

You should purchase the parts online and have a reputable mechanic do the labor.

irontoad.com, lexuspartsonline.com, sewelllexus.com, autopartswarehouse.com.... and the like. Ask for quotes on OEM parts and go with the least expensive. ;)

    Thank you,

That is just what I will do. Thank you for the links. I have a great tech to do the work I was just trying to buy the supplies as cheap :blushing: uggh I mean as inexpensively :P as possible.

  6. Here you go. :D

Unfortunately, I neglected to take the before photo but I am sure you can imagine it by comparing your own. You can still make out a slight line in this photo which is where the split was. It measured approx. 1'' and in the cold weather would separate the width of a clipped thumb nail.

Anyway, my friend had not seen it and upon inspecting it said I had two options.

    a. I could have him remove the entire door panel, first fix the actual break from behind and then remount it before performing the vinyl repair. This was estimated at taking over an hour and at least $100.

    b. He could fix it in 10 minutes for $40.oo and it would look pretty good. Further, if the repair fails in the future he will perform the more laborous repair for an additional $60.

I am not a fanatic and opted for option 'b'.
