  1. I've already considered that but to be honest I don't mind leaving the door jams/engine bay/ under hood gold, it's not like they are seen very often plus it will still match the leather. As far as routine maintenance, my dad works at a Toyota dealership so I've already got that covered :)

I guess what I'm looking for is where to get started to improve performance (bang for the buck kind of stuff I guess).

    Thanks for your input!

Honesty I appreciate, but ignorance and lack of scope disturb me confused.gif. There is little more damaging you could do to your car than change the color in the manner you suggest. By doing such your otherwise 'o.k' car will be viewed as a 'hack job' and you as a 'hacker'. puke.gif If that is 'o.k' with you then by all means continue.

On a personal note it's funny to me. Here I can't get a fender or fuel door painted correctly (e.g. no orange peel, overspray, dirt in paint, clearcoat integrity or chipipng...) for less than an arm and a leg ($$$$) and a large population consistently believe they can paint their entire car for peanuts. Even more extreme some people think they can change a car's color.icon_rolleyes.gif

    On the greater aim:

Troy, I strongly encourage you to utilize the search function. From typing in 'upgrade' a host of threads appeared with this one<-------link standing out at a brief glance.

Personally, I would embrace the gold exterior, pick up a set of reasonably priced rims (from an IS300 on CL for around $300) and go from there. Read the thread ^^^^^^^^^^ above.

  2. Hey all! I'm an extremely fortunate 17 year old who just got a '94 sc300 as my first car with my own cash

The first thing that I plan to do is paint it black, but as for performance upgrade, what should I go with first? I was thinking either lowering it a little/ cold air intake/ new rims and tires?

Any suggestions or tips are more than welcome.

    Lexus 4 Life!

First, you best abandon the plan of changing the color of the car. One would need to paint the door jams, engine bay...basically an entire strip down ranging in cost from $5,000-$8,000 for anything quality. Any corners cut will make the endeavor wholly basterdized and notably diminsh the value of the vehicle. Frankly, it is not an option.

From there I would strongly encourage you to put your efforts into simply bringing the vehicle up to par with basic routine maintenance and only then begin to pursue other upgrades.

In any event welcome to the 'automotive world'!

  3. and option,

your sarcasm is not needed nor is your rudeness, and if you noticed, theres a sharp difference between your posts and everyone elses, theres a way to say things

    Jay,

On that I beg to differ from front to back and would normally do so; however, … I inadvertently tripped across the fact you are a young, strapping lad of only fifteen years wow.gif. That said I eagerly wish to retract my harshness impossible as it may be. For your edification and to your merit in the written word you come across as notably mature. I assumed to my embarrassment you to be a college attendant whining over a modest workload. In fact you are only beginning your quest and in that endeavor I wish you the best.

    Hang in there! icon_cool.gif

While it may seem rather inopportune that you study a Christian story the understanding of it will no doubt play out in your life here and there. Perhaps not in a dire sense, but more likely in a circumstance where you will simply be glad to know. FWIW the ‘Christian’ kids barely know what they know.

    Best,

Landis <------------- wrongly assumed they were 'carding' entrants at the door. icon_redface.gif

  4. We are one Nation, founded under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all. It was not said by our forefathers "which" God and what we choose to call him. In all actuality he is the same God that the whole world prays to and has many faces and names. When we are periled we pray to God all over the world and He saddens that we are so distant from one another yet so connected in his Love for us all.

I thought this was the very rubbish he was exhausted by? dunno.gif

If you have no relation to God then go out and seek a serene place and find his works, Your soul knows.

He didn't say he lacked a relationship with spirituality, but rather could not relate to a Christian story line and its subjective, unrecognizable 'notion' of 'god'.

I will not speak on this again,

I hope you change your mind as I am very confused...

...but must remind you that your butt is not here by your parents intimacies alone but conceived by a higher order. You will have to attest to your faith at the end of your tenure.

    How do you know?

Yes "option00002" you have shown your "!Removed!".

How so? I did not interpret this as an individual needing spiritual guidance (as it appears you have), but rather as someone finding conflict with the spiritual climate within academia and perhaps the country... as I have. I am hardly suggesting a timeline void of spiritual pursuit. S-hit, otherwise I have wasted considerable time studying with Tibetan Buddhists and some very sore legs. laugh2.gif

  5. easier said than done, and before i continue i dont mean for this to tearn into a debate, but i feel this is unfair that i, and soley i, have to learn about christianty just so i can keep up in literature, i already have enough work as it is, and if the point of school is to broaden ones horizons, than why is it that christianty is given such heavy weight in comparison to other religions? i mean majority of this nation is christian any ways, so how much broadening are we really doing? im sorry if i sound like a whiny baby or if you disagree with me, i respect your opinion but am entitled to mine

    -Jay

If you continue to engage the task from a religious platform/agenda you will continue to fail in seeing the forest for its trees. Perhaps a reconfiguring of your wiring will aid in its proper perception. As I attempted to convey before you might simply view it as an ancient fiction and remove the otherwise reckless charge of timely social current. brickwall.gif

Suppose I was to visit this forum and complain that I have been assigned to read, in depth, Gone with the Wind? Sure I have some general idea of a sappy ‘love story’ plot, some basic struggles of the South, but otherwise find the task offensive. Upon actually spreading its page I discover that the fact I have never lived in the South and was born one and quarter century too late bears little on the underlying theme and foundation of a quadrant of this country’s social underpinnings. That the basic drives and regards of humanity are nonetheless examined and therein I can glean new perceptions/understandings in my current situation.

In any event, don’t make it more than it is. Be like water, the substance that can break even stone while still supple.

    Best,

    Landis

Set aside an hour and learn: Adam & Eve

I was raised agnostic (though of protestant origin) and wouldn't cry foul over having to learn it for a class. Suck it up! Isn't that the point of school ... ya know, to broaden one's horizons?

It's one of the oldest forms of fiction and not so different from other forms (e.g Greek myths - The Odyssey/Iliad, Persian -The epic of Gilgamesh, Celtic - Beowulf etc.) IMO.

  7. What would your favorite upgrade be if you could have anything your heart desired for your lex? Performance, Luxury etc...

Since the question posed extends beyond fiscal and product availability limitations I would like to have a manual tranny for my SC4.

Second to that I would like 'Kit' from Knightrider installed in my SC. The bummer to this is I suspect Kit would be bored with my day. I can just picture it:

Me: "K.i.t.t, let's head back to work that lunch was delicious!"

SCK.i.t.t: "Landis, I think you best switch over to 'autopilot' after that 3 martini lunch."

Me:"Joy-boy why don't you shut the f-uck up and see if you can't bring up the stock ticker on that screen"

SCK.i.t.t:"But Landis! We best engage 'super pursuit mode' and get over to the dry cleaners. Basil is closing early tonight and you have a 7am morning meeting. ALL your suits are dirty!"

Me: "You're right K.i.t.t. Lets do it!"

[Police pull over both K.i.t.t and I after two short blocks. With no Knight Foundation we are sadly subject to local laws. The officer shoots a low blow at K.i.t.t accusing him of sounding 'queerer than a football bat'. I schedule a sexual identity therapy session for the SCK.i.t.t. Someone dings his door at the appointment.]

Yeah, so I guess I would first opt for the stick shift then 'SCK.i.t.t'. pimp.gif

  8. I have a GS350 with manually folding side mirrors. The problem is that they don't unfold automatically when you start the car.

This created a dangerous situation when I parked in a tight spot and folded the mirrors. Then my wife started the car; drove off with the mirrors still folded and panicked when she notice the mirrors were folded. This is a dangerous situation.

I know the LS gives you options on how you want your mirrors handled but I think as a minimum Lexus should but out a service mod for other models to unfold the mirrors automatically when the car is in either forward or reverse gear.

    icon_rolleyes.gif

Then why does the read window sunshade go down automatically when you go in reverse and go back up when you shift to forward? Why do we have stability control in cars. Surely we can all be responsible for not driving around curves too fast. The fact that Lexus allows us to fold the mirrors and create an unsafe condition if they are not unfolded makes the situation untenable. My wife didn't know what I did And I didn't know my wife would drive the car next.

You fold the mirrors to make passage easier such as in a garage or in a tight parking space not because you will have a collision. If you parked that close you couldn't open the door

    Beating_A_Dead_Horse.gif

    Are you for serious?

    nopity.gif

Sorry, but your wife did something silly. You need to unfold the mirrors before you drive away, any failure to do that is the responsibility of the driver not the auto manufacturer.

    Responsibility is key.

The premise that the car should be designed so that the driver doesn't have to participate in safe driving practices, such as ensuring the mirrors are properly adjusted, is preposterous.

For one thing automatically unfolding the mirrors when you have affirmatively folded them would make the folding fucntion useless. The purpose is so that you don't bump the mirrors on close objects while parking. What would be the point of having them unfold and bang into whatever you had folded them to avoid? Makes no sense.

  9. Try reading a book about Zen. Specifically, "ZEN - its history and teachings" by OSHO. You may be ready for the truth.

  10. I would go to Lojack.com or call Lojack directly and just confirm registration. If it's registered, then it's done.

Agreed. When a business manager sells a lojack they will always call it in to the company in order to receive a spiff / bonus for its sale as well as schedule the install. If Lojack shows no record of the install and sale then there are grounds for concern.

In regard to the fabric protection and paint protection you are correct that it is not worth anything near $900. Frankly, it is largely a gimmic. You would be hard pressed to prove any fraud in its install. Because the carpet absorbs water is likely not actionable in regard to the law. If you can get any form of refund that is your best bet. They made a fortune off those two items alone in regard to costs so see what you can get refunded.

And here are some lojack costs from an earlier post: ClickHere

    Hth.

  11. You will be hard pressed finding a aftermarket warranty:

    a. on a vehicle of that age

    b. if the vehicle aleady has an excess of 100k miles

Further, most 3rd party warranty companies (which are the only option for a vehicle of that age and mileage) are extremely suspect with many contingencies for disqualification of coverage.

Not to mention you own an extremely reliable vehicle and there is an arguement that one would be throwing their money away on a warranty. Assuming you are concerned with service costs it might be time to find a reputable tech other than the dealer.

  13. Hey, cool dancing banana!! where r u gettin all these?

    hijack.gif

I get the majority of them from my BMW site. I frankly don't care much for those found on LOC.duel.gif [i think I have turned into a forum geek lol]

This is also a great source: Smileys

  14. For the record I very much like the Ridgeline and hardly believe it belongs in this thread. I am rather familiar with them which is why I inquired about the belts. That said I can certainly appreciate family pride and was genuinly curious about what makes them 'amazing'.

    Now I know. wrenchbannana.gif

  15. Dealer Cost (in MA) installed:

    $395 Basic Lo-jack retrieve

$535 w/ Early Warning upgrade ... notifies owner of movement typically by cell phone

[bear in mind Business Managers will manipulate the cost of the lojack through both front-end gross and back-end gross i.e a rate bump, warranty unless of course you are purchasing it after the fact.]

    Hth.
