  1. Thanks for the response Toysrme. I'm just getting back from a few days away. The gas mileage cruising at 80-85 mph was approx 26.5 mpg. Decent, so I don't think that it's running lean (from that perspective). I will see what I can find for getting engine codes. This should be the best place to start. Haven't figured out how or where to do that. I can also start checking fuel system components, and possibly cam timing. I don't want to ignore the problem, but if I behave myself, it doesn't happen. ...But I would like to eliminate it. Thanks.
  2. I have a 2000 Lexus ES300 with 110K miles that will pop or backfire up thru the intake. Seems like it can happen one of two ways: I am going slower, stamp on the gas pedal, lift, then stamp on it again. Pop. Or, in traffic the other day, I was babying the gas waiting for the next lane to open. I was on and off the gas lightly. The next lane opened, I stomped the pedal, and I got the pop. It has only happened 2 or 3 times since I got the car in August. Other than that, this is a great car. Gas mileage is good, no other problems or symptoms. Does anyone have a clue? I have not looked at engine codes. I saw something on that here yesterday. Need to take some time and try it. Just thought I'd get the experts thinking about it. Thanks! e
  3. I found a suitable cup holder that usually hooks to the window belt line trim. I cut the top off and put I-Pass hooks (a sturdier version of velcro, but i think velcro would work if sized appropriately). I can remove as needed. It works well.
  4. I had the airbag go out on my 95 Camry. I had a diagnostic done by the dealer. They came back with ECU and Spiral cable. I replaced both myself from used parts ($125) - mayube not the best idea..., but it worked. Dealer cost was about a grand. I could get New parts for about 400 or 500. Get your code(s) read and see if you wanna do the repairs.
  5. See the attached pic of the clips on the back of the dash parts,
  6. I tapped into my fuseblock with an add-on terminal that connects to an existing fuse (switched power). Ran the wire around the dash side (L), and between the windshield/dash to the dash center. Will try this for a while. The wires are thin gage! I just don't like the curly wire over the center of the dash. I do like the idea of a short plug outlet & closed ashtray.
  7. can someone just let me know what to do to get the stock deck out? i tug and tug but the clips dont seem to want to budge! is there some screws or bolts somewhere? PLEASE HELP! I have a 00. Don't know if they're exactly the same or not. I saw a thread at the top of the forum for FSM - field service manuals. I pulled a 97 and 02 for reference on my '00. The center dash/radio removal was incorrect! For my 00: the wood strip below the radio, but above the ashtray is about a half inch wide by 6 or so inches long. On the underside there are reliefs in the bottom about 1 inch in from each side as this part touches the dash. (bottom of the part, furthest forward of that part) I have a small pick set. I used a 90 degree bent pick. You could bend a paperclip to grab it. I didn't know till I pried the side of the part how it REALLY came out. Both ways will work, I personally would tape up any tool to prevent scratches. SO, there are two press-in clips that hold this part in place. grab the part in the reliefs and pull it out. This will expose the lower 2 bolts holding the radio in. The vent 'cluster' above the radio also comes out. 4 clips - top, bottom, left, right. gnetly pry the vent cluster out with a small taped flat screwdriver. The radio remains in the dash by 4 easily visible screws. Just move slowly and gently.
