  1. Either your piston isn't all the way compressed or your slide pins are not pushed in when you bring caliper over pads.
  2. After sitting 24 hours outside at 20 degrees--------------no noise at start up. Low Oil pressure light extinguished immediately Go figure Car wont be used for 3 days. I'll post up on next start.
  3. Thanks Steve, I understand the logic of the filters but I bought a dozen "full" brand Japenese OEM filters about 2 years ago. I've been using them without any issues to date. After I initially heard the knock I changed the oil and filter thinking maybe the anti-drain back feature had failed. Unfortunately a few days later, knock was present again after lengthy sit with cold start. My parents have actually owned vehicle (I was original owner and still maintain) for past 3 years. I happened to start it a few weeks ago when temp had dropped and car was idle for a few days. KNOCK,KNOCK,KNOCK Parents said they never heard abnormal noise. I asked them to monitor after I noticed it. They heard nothing for weeks until vehicle sat idle for a couple of days then sure enough KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK for a few seconds at start up then quiet. I told my father to let car sit outside for 24 hours and then start and monitor oil light. I'll post his results tomorrow. Side note: I contacted my Lexus dealer and they say they have not had any such issues on the ES300
  4. Castrol GTX 5W-30 it's whole life. Toyota extended the warranty on the 2003 V6's?. I thought it was earlier years. This noise almost seems to be piston slap. What's odd is that I would think a piston slap issue would be there since day 1.
  5. Yeah, after it sits for more than a couple of days it knocks when cold and then stops. If it sits for say 12 hours no noise on cold start. Sludge issue? Oil changed every 3,000 so I sure hope not.
  6. 2003 Lexus ES300, 60,000 miles, oil changed religiously, OEM filters. Started car after it had been sitting for 3 days and heard terrible knocking sound. After a few moments it silenced. Oil level is fine. Car ran normally and I didn't hear it again. Now 2 weeks later car was again not started for a few days and sure enough knocking sound at start up.. Has anyone else experienced this? Its like oil starvation somewhere. C'mon SteveJ Help me out;-)
  7. Thanks George Jetson! Oh, and that wasn't the question Camlex but I sure do appreciate your technical expertise. I think I'll torque it to 36ft lbs and refill with transmission fluid instead of oil though.
  8. Anyone know the torque for the drain plug on the transmission pan? Thanks
  9. Has anyone been able to change these without removing the Intake Plenum? Thanks!
  10. I came loaded with my TSB's in hand (which my service advisor claimed to have not heard of) and the end result is positive. * A new intermediate steering shaft is on order (the Tech claimed everything felt normal...yeah right) *A new converter is on order for the sulfur smell (At first they tried to tell me to switch gas or even go to Premium fuel...I don't think so.) If anyone is interested in the new converter results let me know. Parts will be in early next week. PS. In my case having info on the TSB's was the clincher. Fluguy: Consider yourself lucky to have a dealer that isn't afraid to share that info with you. PSS. 2007 Camry is All new in early 2006. How about the 2007 es330? Concord
  11. Go to all data and look it up.. ← Gee Thanks mburnikas! I went to Toyota's website and printed up all TSB's . F*&k Alldata!
  12. Would you happen to know the TSB? Im taking mine to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks
  13. Hey SW03ES, Could you give me more information about your steering shaft that was replaced. Actual P/N's etc. The dealer tightened the steering U-joint and it seemed to help but I still have a slight steering clunk or pop when leaving a stop and turning to the right at slow speeds. It's very hard to diagnose since it happens sporatically. Thanks for your help Concord
  14. Hello, My '03 (15,000 miles) steering makes a "clunk" or "pop" when slightly turning the wheel off center and then back again when the car is stopped or at very low speeds. It can be heard and also felt. Someone mentioned they had this problem and that Lexus replaced the intermediate steering shaft? Anyone else experience this? I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow and want to have information in case I get the, "oh that's normal" Thanks
  15. "since the speed of the serp belt is constant and it doesnt go any faster when you rev the engine." Your serpentine belt speed increases with engine speed. Think about what your saying. Open your hood and watch it.
  16. Uummmmmmmmmmmmm...What kind of Lexus do you drive that has a constant accy belt speed?? There is no such animal.
  17. OK here is the problem: Alternator The whine is coming from the alternator. Try this: listen to your engine at idle and slowly rev it. You will here a slight whine or whirrrring sound. Now load up the alternator(put on seat heaters, rear defrost, lights) now do the same. The noise will increase dramatically. Although there is nothing wrong with the mechanical function of the alternator, in my opinion it should be much quieter...It's a Lexus not a Dodge. The first lexus tech gave me the "thats normal" BS. So I asked the service manager to show me another car that sounded like mine. He couldn't. They called over the Big dog master tech and he knew exactly what it was. Even told me that loading it up would increase the noise. Said unfortunatley some are louder than others. Said if it gets much louder they would replace it. Knowing what it is has given me piece of mind and I made sure the info was documented in the vehicles service records as "alternator whine" instead of "that's normal" Try the test guys let me know your results.
  18. Mine is not s start up issue. It's a whirring noise that can definetly be heard at idle. Instead of a quiet sounding engine it's.........whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring :o
  19. My 2003 engine has a very distinct engine whirrrrrrrrrring noise. If I rev the engine the noise also intensifies. It's high pitched in nature. Anyone else have this condition and have you had it corrected? Car only has 12,000 miles on it. The noise is not from drive belt but sounds almost like a belt squeal Thanks
  20. Ok todays update, I spoke with the Service manager at my Lexus dealer. I asked him if he felt that the upgrade had helped those who had it done. He said yes. He said 5 have been done and they have not heard anything negative or had returns from customers. I then asked him what their actual problem was. He said, "The software update will help those who have harsh shifting problems" I then asked him about the problem that I am experiencing(slow down to 5-10 mph and the reapply accelerator and hesitation and then jerkiness felt). His response was that the upgrade would probably not cure this problem. This was probably do to the Electronic throttle control and that it is present on all ES300's and even on the LS400. He said I should not be experiencing a jerking into gear but that the slight hesitation under those conditions was quite common. I must say it sounds ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! Other service managers have said this, right SteveJ? Actually this makes perfect sense. There is no cable connection to the throttle plates, its 100% electric...drive by wire if you will. According to the service manger the computers say," oh you want to stop. Ok everything is ready to stop" Then we hit the gas and it thinks, "Oh no!, now you want to go" and it does not compensate smoothly. Lexus needs to make this transission smoother. I have heard of BMW's electronic throttle control also doing similar things. That's my .02 and what I believe is really causing our headaches. I don't feel there is an actual problem with the transmission. John
  21. Hey JPI, What exactly did you notice with the new software? John
  22. Hello, I logged my complaint into customer service today. I later called and spoke to a customer service rep who told me the following: On 8/5/03 a NEW service bulletin was incorporated for 2002/2003 transmission problems. The Service Bulletin # is TC004-03. He said it is a software update. I have my first service appointment (1000 mile) tomorrow afternoon and will ask that this update be performed. Im not sure if this update is really new or if the customer service rep is blowing smoke because I have heard others say they have had a software update with no help. I will take this man for his word and hope for the best. I will let you all know tomorrow night. John fingers crossed :D
