  1. Read my post about 2 down below yours about "MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY 95 ES300".. Sounds like we're having similair problems. Is your check engine light on?
  2. 1995 ES300 137,000 miles. $3700. Bought it in Wholesale from my work. Some dings and small scratches, but nothing major. Interior in good shape except 6 disc changer doesn't work and small rip in top of back seats where the stitching is coming loose. Started out great but recently came into a lot of problems.
  3. Hey Guys, Looking for some speculation. My 1995 ES300 has 147k on it. I've owned it for 10,000 miles. When I bought the car it ran great, except it would sometimes clunk if I punched it off the start because I believe the transmission mount has seen MUCH better days. Also, a mechanic informed me the engine mounts are shot as well. About 4 months ago the Check Engine light came on, but the car ran great. I had it diagnosed by a mechanic who speculated it was a faulty Mass Airflow Sensor. However, after describing the issues, forum members rediagnosed it as the rear exhaust manifold 02 sensor (based on code P0170 - Fuel Trim Malfunction). Flash foward to the last month or two. The car now started to make a lot of lurching when starting in first gear. I first thought the car just needs a tune up (plugs, wires, etc) and maybe some electrical cleaning, but the problem has gotten progressively worse. Now every time I start in first gear, regardless of if the car is warmed up it has major hesitation and lurches foward hard, causing the transmission to "clunk" around. I have noticed if I start driving in Low Gear 2 the start is a little smoother, but still a little rough, and then I shift into Drive as soon as get midway into 2nd gear. I realize you guys don't have a crystal ball to tell me exactly what's wrong, but I was hoping maybe its happened to someone else before and its not the tranny. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hey thats the code I got from autozone also, I read on the forums code table that it means the fuel trim etc...so u think my car has faulty oxygen sensors also ? if so where do I go to get it fixed? Well... I work at a dealer and I took it in to them and they "diagnosed" my P0170 C.E.L. Code as being caused by a "Faulty Mass Airflow Sensor". The problem with that theory, as one forum member pointed out, is that that should set off the code in both banks, not just bank 1 (rear). So that's why, the same forum member pointed out, he suspected the O2 sensor as being the culprit which makes sense as there's two. I figure worst case scenario, its not the 02 sensor and turns out to be the MAF, the 02 sensor is cheaper to be wrong on AND its a maintenance item, where as if I did the MAF first and was wrong, i just wasted some decent cash. In response, the reason I'm looking "cheapest" is because I don't plan to keep this car. I bought in in January off of the car lot I work on for just over $3000 and I'm driving it temporarily until I find a sports car that I'd like, then I'm going to "flip" this car and make some money. If this was my 300zx Twin Turbo you bet your butt I'd buy OEM only, but for my purposes, Its just to clear the check engine light so I can smog and sell it. Are you going to disclose that to the buyer ? Disclose what? That I purchased my 02 sensor at Autozone rather than Lexus? I think you were getting all accusatory without anything to accuse me of.

  6. Hey guys, Well I'm off to replace my rear manifold (pre cat) 02 sensor to hopefully clear my code P0170. Best price I've gotten so far is the "OEM" Bosch at Autozone for $100. Anyone know where I can find one cheaper? I've done a google search but the cheapest I can seem to find is about $120 or so. Let me know if anyone has any ideas, otherwise I'm off to Autzone. Thanks!
  7. So you think definately not the Mass Air Flow Sensor, as the tech says? I am doubting the tech's diagnostic, but is it possible a faulty mass air flow sensor could do it?
  8. So after having no luck figuring out the Check Engine Light, I finally took my 95 ES300 to a repair facility where the service writer told me that the tech thought my catalytic converter was going bad and it wasn't getting hot enough to send a proper signal to the o2 sensor located on the cat, and that's why my Check Engine light came on from a Code P0170 (Fuel Trim Malfunction). Later, though, I talked to the tech himself who said he thought it may have been a faulty Mass AirFlow Meter, and thats why the Code. So I think to myself.... Well if my cat were going bad, would I have passed smog just fine at the same place in January? But also, if the MAF was faulty, wouldn't I experience a rough idle or poor performance as a result of it? Just looking for any thoughts/ ideas.
  9. Hey guys, Well my last post was about my check engine light coming on last week. I took it to Autozone and scanned it with an OBDII Scanner and popped a Code P0170. I cleared the code and drove home. When trying to SEARCH here on the site for causes of the P0170 code I couldn't really find any possible culprits. I drove the car about another 200 miles with no problems so I thought the trusty Autozone employee may have guessed right when he said it could have been from bad gas. So driving home today (200 miles later) and the Check Engine light came on again. I haven't re scanned the ECU but my gut is telling me I'm gonna see another Code P0170. Trying to figure out what possible causes there are for a "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Code P0170)". If anyone has experienced this in the past, any help would be appreciated. Some things I can tell you is the car starts and runs fine, however in low gears (especailly after start up) there is some hesitation when I accelerate. In the higher gears it seems fine, but its definately got some noticable hesitation in first and sometimes second when I first restart the car. Again, thanks for any help guys.
  10. Ok... realized after searching more that I was being a nooby and that I am OBDII.. tee hee. My bad. Anyway, just read it down at autozone and I got a Code P0170 (Fuel Trim Malfunction). Cleared the code and so far so good but I'm off to read through some searching about what causes the P0170 Not that I don't trust the esteemed Autozone worker who guessed it could have been bad gas, but I'd rather read a bit and see. Let me know if any of you have any ideas please, and thanks for the help!
  11. Hey Guys.... I'm trying to avoid being a newby as much as possible. Today my check engine light came on in my 1995 Lexus ES300. I read through several search topics and of course FAQ to find that I should get my diagnostic code by connecting the TE1 with the E1 under the hood in the "Diagnostic" box. I tried several times hooking them together using some wire and turned the key to the "On" position to stare at only a SOLID check engine light still. I made sure all of my accessories were off and even tried putting it in Neutral while doing this, still to no avail. Can anyone help me? I don't want to take my car to a mechanic as I perform all of my own maintenance on my Nissan 300zx. This is the first time I'd be doing any repairs on the Lexus as I've owned it only since January. Thanks for any help guys. PS: When the light came on the car felt no different. Even now it feels like its running fine with Maaaaybe a slightly rougher idle, but not noticable if I hadn't seen the check engine light and my paranoia went into overdrive. PPS: My car is a 95 built in 12/94, I can only assume I am OBD1? Let me know if I'm wrong?
