  1. I got this car with 200k on it. The arm rest leather is badly worn from someones acid-y sweat.
  2. My bad, I forgot to mention the year. I am needing to replace to arm rest console cover on my 92 LS400.
  3. Do any of you ES300 guys know if an ES300 console lid will fit on an LS400? THey look the same, and the only one I can find right now that matches my color (gray) is an ES300 part. If anyone knows about this, please let me know. Thanks.
  4. I would let the students do their thing! There's nothing too complicated with tune-up work, you've save a bundle, and they get valuable experience. Win/Win.
  5. Well, frankly I am relieved to be hearing more focus on tires than on ujoints, ball joint and the other related parts. I will take your advice and shop around for someone with a high grade balancer, express my concerns and expectations and go from there. Thank you guys very much.
  6. I have 92 LS 400 with 200k miles. It is in exceptional condition considering its age and mileage. But something is going on that's kind of irritating - at about 60 MPH up to about 75 MPH, a vibration/shutter starts happening. It comes and goes, but mostly comes and stays, and totally deminishes from my enjoyment of the smooth and quite Lexus ride. I had my tires re-balanced and it helped little. Can I assume that this problem isn't all that uncommon on older models, and somebody out there has some good advise? Please let me know. Thanks!
  7. Don't forget to do the air cleaner. It helped my car alot.
  8. Wow, these comments make me feel good about my new purchase of a 92 LS 400. My first Lexus purchase, and now I know what I've been missing all these years. I paid $5k on a cold day, so I thought the AC worked, only to find out that it needs almost everything. Right now I'm looking at $1k in AC parts and labor. Other than that, and a few small ding bat things, it looks no more than 5 years old, white/silver like LRP-Ls400s. Drives like a dream and nearly silent at all speeds. Jacked it up and checked out the undercarriage, and things look exceptionally fresh and clean. My wife still thinks I'm crazy for buying a 14 year old car with 199k on it. Admittedly I went out on a limb a bit here, but my faith in all the reports I read and comments like these helps me keep my chin up. Glad to be a legitimate part of the club now, finding my self wanting badly an SC model! :)
  9. :( Sheese man... Now I am less happy with my '92 LS400. Cars like this most certainly make me a SC guy!
  10. Thank you for the reply. Though I do plan on changing out the timing belt sometime in the not too distant future, it's nice to know that if it does break, I won't ruin my engine. On another note, I have always been a Slick 50 man in my domestic cars. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use it in my Lexus? Also, I know the book wants us to use 91 octane fuel, but does allow an exception for lesser octane in a pinch. So, with that said, can we use 87 octane on a regular basis without negative consequences? Also, maybe I blundered already... I was 3/4 quart low on tranny fluid, and added Dextron III without thinkint to check the manual first. That was 400 miles ago, and nothing seems different tranny wise. Do I need to do anything about this? Mean while I am digging this car, luxury with a near sports car feel. Luv it!
  11. Hi. I am new to this forum, and also to Lexus ownership. I don't know how such fine cars have escaped my ownership in the past. My Question is this: I recently bought a 92 LS400. By all appearances, it looks like it has been very well cared for and runs perfectly (except the AC compressor is out :( . I have no maintenance records. Assuming the overall very good condition, is it necessary to change the timing belt? I found the instructions to do so in here, but it still looks like daunting task based upon my mechanical skills. If there are any other high miles maintenance items I need to address, please let me know. Thanks!
