Seems like that would be the place to start. I would think it would have an effect on all of the operating functions if the car thinks its starved for air or has too much, the problems might cascade. I am not a tech, so you may get a better answer from others.

You should be able to to get clues by reading the codes. Plug a code reader in see if it shows any.

1. Yes VIN to dealer..start praying the previous owner did the 60K service. Likely not. 2. If the 60K was not done, you can get it done by an outside shop for less... but you have to look at the list of stuffon the 60k to see how extensive it is. IMHO a Dealer Service is a good idea. Its not just a oil change and a wash. 3. I dont have my schedule handy but its on the web and also your dealer will have the list of stuff when you check the VIN. The 60k is the big service 30-60-90-120K like that. The Timing belt, tensioner and waterpump should be checked at 60 or 90 and done at 120k...(Other members can chime in with the exact schedule.) My dealer quoted $960 for the 60K on my 2000 LS. Still there s the peace of mind that it got done by someone who knows the car. Your car isnt going to be the training mule for some monkey. Besides the LS is the best car ever built..it deserves the best treatment. :D

One of the easiest ways to determine the sale prices, value. Is to call people selling them. When someone says "Im sorry its sold" ask them politely "may I ask what you sold it for?" Ive never had anyone say no. You get a few from your region and you've got fair idea of what $$ buys how much car. -Bob

The beauty of these gems is that they are tighty tight tight even after many miles. Why buy new? Most new Lex owners take care of their investment, so when they want a new one (surely not need one), we who buy them for a third to a quarter of their original price win. All three of our Lexus' were bought used. 1991 LS400 107K miles (now departed), 1999 LS400 74K miles, 1995 SC400 70K miles. cheers,

I didnt know the speedos were that far off. My daughter trailed us one trip, and said she was indicating different than we were. I blamed her Nissan speedo, but it actually matches up with what you said Threadcutter. I guess I'll check 'em out. Still very satisfied with the mileage.

Ok, So I borrowed the wifes '99 LS to roll to Arizona. It was a run of about 300 miles. I averaged between 77-83 MPH according to the dash. Headwind I got 23-25 MPG. Tailwind, I got 26-28 mpg is that right? Man, my old 91 LS wasn't that tight on gas. Always a cool trip in an LS. What have you experienced, mileage vs speed? -bl
