  1. Regardless of how warm the car is if I have on the AC the car shifts more rough than it does when it's off. I almost started to think my tranny was going out. Can someone tell me what could be causing this and how to correct? It's a 96 LS and I just got it a week ago. I'm thinking I need to do a drain and fill also but not sure if that would help this situation.
  2. I looked under the car briefly but didn't see anything that resembles it. I just bougt an 96 and I would like to do a drain and fill because the shifting is noticeable while driving.
  3. Ok, I turned the overdrive on (ect power) since it was on normal and the thump went away. Hmmmmm, is that normal. Should I drive with the ect power on?
  4. Well I just try to put a little crome polish on one of the badly stained rims to see if any black stuff would come off and it didn't. The polish stayed the same color whick leads me to believe it's polished.
  5. Looks like they WERE coated. The outside lip stipp has the shinny coat on it but the face of the rim is starting to get light in color and there is no sign of coating. The rim is lighter than the center caps. Ther are also some spots with dark areas that looks like carbon build up. I'll try to post pics in the am.
  6. The are the stock rims on my 96 and I don't know if they are machined or clear coat but they have a white haze covering all four. How can I get this out. Is there something I could pick up from Pepboys or Autozone? Also where is the best place to find a center cap?
  7. Whenever I'm in park and I put the car in gear it kind of thumps into gear. It also thumps if I'm cruising down the street and I take my foot off the gas then put it back on the gas. It's like it thumps the one time when I give it that initial press as I'm riding. Can anyone lead me into the right direction?
  8. I'm in the process of buying a 96 tomorrow with 118,000 milles on it. it rides good and the price is good at $8,800. I'm taking the car to the lexus dealer tomorrow for an inspec but should I be worried about tranny or engine issues. I looked at the oil and it looks clean, The only issue I have is that the owner that has it now is the third owner and probably doesn't have records. Should I be concerned if it still checks out ok?
  9. I put about 15 to 17,000 miles per year on my 99 Acura TL so Id say I would be putting no more than about 10,000 miles per year on the Lexus I purchase. I'm going to check and see when the last time the timing belt was changed. if it hasn't been changed until recently then I'm going to hold off on the purchase. Keep the opinions coming. It's giving me a lot to think about guys. Oh, and I appreciate all of your responses. You guys are the ones that drive these cars everyday and give a good consumers point of view.
  10. Wow, what an informative reply! How about this question: With the money I'm looking to spend in a car, would you rather spend $5000 on say a 93,94 ES, GS or SC with 150,000 miles instead of a 95 LS with 220,000 miles. Since that is what my money is looking like at the moment and I desperately need a 2nd car that's what I'm in the market for. Either one of those or a 1st gen LS with about 150,000 miles.
  11. I'm thinking of buying this one owner LS but the only hang up is the fact that it has 220,000 miles on it. the car rides perfectly and has no leaks that I can tell. All the service was done at a local Lexus dealer. The guy is asking fof $4300 and said he's getting rid of it because the car is too old and will be buying a new one. What do you think about the price vs miles issue? I really only have about $4500 to spend and I want wo get a Lexus with the money.
