Is it difficult/expensive to replace the brake booster?

This morning while driving to work. I noticed that my break pedal was really hard to press. The car would stop it just took a lot more effort than normal to get it to do so. The break pads were changed with OEM parts about 6 months ago and I didn't have any issues. Any suggegstions? Could the break lines need rebleeding or something?

So, for a while now I've been experiencing a low idle so yesterday I put some Seafoam in my gas tank to help clean my fuel system a little. This morning as I was trying to head to work I got to a stop sign and got ready to take off but the car didn't budge. The Check Engine and VSC lights came on. After tpying with the pedal a little I realized that if I push it in almost to the floor then the car with then start to get a little fuel. I managed to get home like that which was only about a half mile away. Once I got home I turned the car off then turned it back on and the problem was gone. Did it again and again and after a couple of times the accelerator would not engage again. Turn the car off then back on and now it's engaging again. I'm going to try to get it scanned later today if I can make it to Advance auto but I'm curious has anyone seen this before of could lend some advice. Thanks in advance!

I have a Nav with ML sound and the cd changer in the center arm rest. The CD changer will not lock the cartridge in to stay. The only way I can get it to play a disc is to hold the cartridge in place while it shuffles through the CDs then starts to play disc 1. If I try to shuffle to the next disc the cartridge slip out of the changer partially and won't play the disc. Any one know if this is an easy fix. Obviously something not locking on to the cartridge.....or could it be the cartridge itself?

I just bought a Black on Black '05 330 (56,000mi) with Nav and ML sound system, heated/cooled seats and automatic rear window shade, 17" allow for $17,199.00. Only thing wrong was a knot on the side of one tire and the cd changer cartrage is a little quirky. The dealer has ordered me a tire and will fix the changer and give a full buff next monday at no cost.

Does anyone have a link or can tell me about changing the breaks on my LS. I've change breaks before but I was curious if there was anything unexpected that I may run into since I've never changed breaks on a LS. I guess I need infor on the break sensor also. Is it difficult to remove it... can i re-use..etc........ Thanks

Ok, well about 3 weeks ago my changer went out in my 98 ls400 with standard Premium sound system (Non Nak.) I really don't want to spend $300-$400 getting the changer replaced or fixed and would rather just install a double din DVD player. My only issue is that when I do a search I don't show any mention of this being done on the 98 LS. Is is possible? Wher can i find a kid that would fit my dash?

Thanks etex! I looked at the rail system and it's pretty dirty. I sprayed some WD40 on them and I noticed an immediate difference. I'm gonna go back and clean it like you suggested because it's still dirty.

Lately I've been noticing the my sunroof/moonroof opens more slowly than normal. It's also a little louder. This morning when I got in the car I tried to open it and it could here it trying to open but it wouldn't. after a couple tries it finally opened but stull moving slowly. has anyone ever had this issue. What are possible solutions?

Vevro, yesterday I ran into the same issue you had. Can you or anyone else elaborate on the solution to fixing this issue? It would be a great help to me. BTW.

I have a 98 LS400 and I'm trying to find an economical way to mount a TV monitor in both the front and the rear. I really don't want to mount anything in the head rests. Is there any other way to make this happen. Can you mount one on a kuda in the front? I don't want to loose my stock radio and changer

Thanks. It is a 98 LS400 with about 130k on the OD. Is this a hard job to do? I'm pretty handy so it's something that's very possible as a DIY

I just noticed a burning oil smell and when I looked at the engine I noticed a little smoke on the passenger side. You cant even see the smoke unless u have the hood up and the smoke is vague but you can smell it. Well, I got to looking around and there was no oil on the ground and the underbody of the car wasn't real wet. I started to feel around and found a slight leak on the passenger side. The photos will show where the small leak is coming from but can you tell me if these are the valve covers or something much worse.

I went to see the 98 LS today and all I can say is WOW. The guy whose owed the car since '00 has absolutely taking care of the car. He met me with a folder over an inch thick with every receipt he's ever gotten when getting work on the car. He had all the service done at a local lexus dealer including the 90,000 mile service and the 120,000 mile service (the car has 129,000). The timing belt cost a wopping $1,487. The interior is perfect and this car looks 10 times better than the LS that I just had totaled. I am so impressed and ready to load some pictures for everyone to see come Monday. This thing even has brand new tires. This is the car for me. When I talked to him he said that car didn't have one door ding because of how anal and carful he's been with it. And after inspecting it the only blimmish to be found is a couple unnoticeable rick chips. I'm looking forward to driving this baby.

It's amazing that I'm going through this very same delima right now with my wife. The only thing is that she really does not care which one we get. I wrecked my 96 LS about 2 weeks ago. I've only had it for about 3 months and I got it for about $8,800 cash with about 118,000 on the OD. The insurance company gave me about 12 grand for the total and now i'm on the fence. My issue is that I want somethine that looks the most modern and in style since I know both cars are great vehicles. I won't something that looks modern and also say luxury. What do you think. Which one.... Oh, BTW I'm looking at 98 LS... Blk on Blk leather 120,000 miles with all records (2 owner) for $11,000 (private seller) or a 98 GS with around 100,000 miles for about the same price. What do you think?

Thanks for the reply. I talked to the insurance adjuster and she said they would give me roughly the NADA retail average if the car is totaled. That is a lil more than 11 grand when I looked it up yesterday. That's pretty good for a car I bought 3 months ago for $8,800. I'm starting to hope it is writen off but I just don't know if the repair cost would be enough to make them total it. They would probably even try to reshape the frame if it's bent.

Yesterday I was taking my kids to school and was hit by a 72 mustang on the front drivers side. This messed up the head light and the front panel pretty badly (no damage to the hood). I had the tow truck take it to LEXUS of SOUTH ATLANTA which has it's own collision center in house. I'm wondering if you think the paint will get blended in or will they just paint the panel. My suspension assembley is gone to as my tire was kinda pushed towards the engine. Ther may even be frame damage and my Michelin was busted <= do you think they'll put two new tires on the front? I have no clue what to expect. Oh, do insurance companies normally pay the depreciated worth of the car after and accident?

Got a question: My 96 ls400 doesn't immediately start up when I turn the ignition key. It gives me that d-d-d-d-d-d-d-vroom (now it's on). So there's a hesitation there. You can tell the car is trying to fire up but it takes a second for the engine to actually turn over. What is this caused by?

I'm just looking for opinions here. I have a '96 Ls400 (quartz) and my factory whells look like crap. I'm looking to get some new wheels but I'm trying to figure out which oem wheels look the best. What do you think?

Ok, yesterday I was sitting in my car waiting on someone for about twenty minutes. The car was sitting still but running and I had the AC on. After about 20 minutes I oticed that the temp gauge started to creep up. I basically reached the second notch before the red then I cut it off because it looked like it wanted to go above that. I let it sit for about 15 minutes then started it back up. It didn't rise anymore with or without the AC on. What do you thin could be the problem? It only happened that once while sitting for a period of time but I want to catch it before it becomes worse.

I recently bought a 96 LS400 and the paint is called quartz. It looks like a mix between grey and brown. My stock wheels look horrible. I was considering having them dipped in chrome. Has anyone seen the stock chrome rims on a 95-97 in the same color as my care? How does it look? any pics? what would you recommend?

Thanks I'll go pick up a bottle tomorrow. I did my first drain N fill today and overall the car seems to shift better. The fluid was pretty brown. How long should I wait before doing it again? I want to cycle as much of the old out as possible. Is a week long enough for the new and old to mix?
