  1. On the attached LIGHTING - LH HEADLAMP ASSY PDF, under "Prepare vehicle..." it indicates:

Prepare vehicle in the following conditions.

    * Fuel tank is full.

    * The tire inflation pressure is at the specified level.

    Is this a joke?

  2. I bought one of those iPod FM transmitters. I works alright but there is always static, no matter what channel I select. I want clarity as from the CD changer, however, I have an aftermarket radio (Clarion) with a subbox that has 3 10" JL Audio subwoofers. It thumps. I would like to know how I could hook up my iPod. Question - Could I use Auxillary line/RCA's? I have RCA's coming from my system that I believe once housed a DVD (can tell by the mounting bracket screw holes on the passenger side of the counsole under the left hand side of the glove box), but they took the DVD when I bought the car. At least I was stuck with the awesome audio system.

  3. Try www.techinfo.toyota.com. You could purchase daily (10.00), monthly (?) or yearly subscriptions (?). It was very useful for my 91 repair work. Also, I believe if you got to www.lexls.com, it is not only a tutorial (DIY), but it also has a link to a site for repair manuals to download ($14.95). Check it out and I hope this helps.

  4. I would go for it. For an 90 LS that u paid 3K for, that's definitely worth putting $669 into. Where could you go wrong, especially with all the monitors and such? If it's in great shape, why not go the extra mile at $669 and get yourself loving your LS400. Got any pics of the car (inside/outside)? Would love to see them.

I have a 91 (also a 1st Generation LS400) and I love her. Everyday at lunchtime and sometimes in between, I'm dusting her off (her name's Jezabel), cleaning the 18" chrome rims and just starting her up for 5 minutes or so. I love the way she purrs!!! and by the looks of everyone else, they love her too!. I always get complemented on her. I'll post a pic later on, around 3:30 or so. Nothing special against anyone elses' LS, but against the average car on the street, it seems special!

By the way, welcome to the FORUM....and any help I could provide, let me know!

  5. I have a '91 LS400 (I'll post a pick as soon as I can get a chance.

The first top button is the Shift override button. It lets you shift gears without the ignition on, while the car is off/not running.

The next button is the Sport-mode button. When the Sport-mode button is activated, it provides a sturdier ride. I believe the Sport-mode button, when activated, works with your Air Suspension to control the performance of your vehicle (anyone, please add in if I'm incorrect, also throughout the entire content of my reply if needed).

The Height button should control height of the Air Suspension. On my Lex, the Height Indicator light located in the lower left-hand corner of the dash should indicate "NORMAL" (or "HI" when the button is activated). I believe when in "NORMAL" mode with speed at or beyond 83 MPH (at least on my model/year), will indicate "LO" for performance-related driving. If you see no difference in height when the Height button is activated, there is probably something worng with your Air Suspension air bags (or it is shot), or your Air Suspension has been replaced with conventional coil-over struts. I had mine replaced because they all went bad. $1000 per each air bag (at the stealer....I mean dealer) not including labor. I ordered coil-overs from Arnott Industries (http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LEXUS_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid7.html) at $649 for all 4 and did it myself. Fairly easy if you're a DIYer. If you want to replace the air bags, they have them for $399 each.

The ECT button, when switched on, is for quick/fast acceleration, kind of like turbo. That's the best I can describe it. If that does not work, you may need to do a search within this forum.

    Hope this helps.

Not sure if this would help as I just noticed the year and model of your car. I apologize.

  7. I would try changing the O2 sensors first. Why spend it on cats when it may not be them? I just would like to save you some money.

I had issues with emissions and they told me everything was wrong...from the cats to the MAF. Cost me 3200 (US) dollars. 4 O2 sensors, 3 cats, and the MAF, plus labor. What's worse is they only secured the cats with 2 bolts instead of three causing me to replace 2 of the O2's just replaced. No doubt that this caused my next problem (code 71 - EGR malfunction) because it was running too too lean. And also TRAC codes 13 and 51 (also looking for help on how to resolve these). You fix one thing and 2 weeks later, it never fails, something else rears it's ugly head....

    Good luck.

  8. You can use a wire or paper clip (small one that doesn't have a plastic colored coating). I used both, but prefer the wire.

I too have the dreaded CEL (Check Engine Light) along with the "TRAC/OFF" light. I traced the code to a Check Engine code of 71 (EGR Malfunction) and then tested the "TRAC/OFF" code (by placing the wire into the E1 and Tc holes as the manual suggests) and it came back with code 13 (Open in TRAC throttle relay circuit) and code 51 (problem in Engine Control System - which I think is the EGR gas temp. sensor circuit).

Overall, although I would love to fix the issues, I need some help. Can anyone provide additional insight?

    Thanks!

  9. I found the answer by subscribing to techinfo.toyota.com (best 10.00 ever spent for a repair manual - hundreds of pdf's though). Here are the instructions:

    (Washer Motor and Tank)

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF WASHER

    MOTOR AND TANK

    1. REMOVE WASHER TANK AND WASHER MOTOR

    a. Remove fender liner.

    b. Disconnect connector and hose.

    c. Remove three nuts and tank.

    d. Separate tank and washer motor.

    2. INSTALL WASHER TANK AND MOTOR

For installation follow the removal procedure in reverse.

    Thanks for your efforts guys.

  10. For a 91 it's fairly easy:

    1. REMOVE HEADREST

    (a) (Manual Type)

While pushing the lock button, pull up the headrest to remove

    it.

    (B) (Electrical Type)

    Slide the headrest upward.

    © (Electrical Type)

While pushing the supports, remove the headrest.

Hope this helps since you have a 1st generation LS400.

  11. it's been a couple of years since i did it, but i'm sure i didn't remove the bumper. As best i can remember i just removed the undercover (the cover under the engine that you remove to do oil changes) and was able to access the bottom of the tank. Sorry but i don't have a repair manual PDF that shows the tank. Maybe someone else can chime in. You may have the same issue i had - the washer pump was the source of the leak and not the tank itself.

I actually poured in a gallon of water to see if the leak was still present and it just comes out the bottom, so I'm not sure if it's the washer pump. Thanks again for your help!

Anyone else have information on how to remove the washer tank?

  12. I replaced the washer fluid pump at the bottom of the tank, but didn't remove the tank. I would think it'd be pretty straightforward.

How'd you accomplish that without taking out the tank? Did you have to go through the front driver-side wheel wall? You didn't have to take off your front bumper, did you? I bought a plastic tank repair kit, but I'm unsure of the size of the hole in the tank. Any help would be beneficial. Please let me know and thanks again!

  13. I bought the Lexus LS400 conversion Coil Strut kit for my 1991 Lexus from Arnott and there seems to be something wrong. we followed (my mechanic and I) the labeling and put them on as indicated. The car seems backwards. The backend is lower than the front end now. I'm disgusted! I don't know if they (Arnott) were labeled incorrectly but the rear end of the car is lower than the front end by at least 4 inches. Could the people may have put the wrong directions on each strut, i.e., the front mixed up with the rear. Anyone experience this with Arnotts Coil/Strut conversion for the LS400 (90-92)?

    :cries: :chairshot:
