  1. CD changer as standard equipment in 1999 ES ? - don't know. I have a 1993 ES300 which does require a code for the radio if the battery is disconnected - that is if the radio's "anti-theft deterrant" system is activated. It can be deactivated too so no code is needed after a power disconnect. Does the front face of your radio have a small flashing LED when the car is turned off? If it does, you'll prolly need a code. I'd check the owner's manual - it should tell you.
  2. I have the same problem with my '93 ES300. Can you provide some more info on the Mighty Lift like who makes them, price each, manufacturer's part number? Thanks, Lexucan
  3. 'Twas a Canuck who virtually lived in his Lexus That had a sweetheart waiting at home named Alexis And when Valentines Day came Was his neglect of Alex that's sure to blame For her punching him thrice deep in the solar plexus! :chairshot: Now the moral of the tale of this Lexus Is not simply that he should be more attentive to sweet Alexis But alas it's about And to be sure, there's no doubt He must sell the car or forever wonder what s*x is..... :cries:
  4. Production manager for an electronics design and manufacturing company specializing in satellite communications and wireless devices. We were awarded the contract to supply the State of NY with a new satellite-based EAS (emergency alert system) after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 destroyed the communications abilities of the old system. Terrestrial antennas for the old system were on top of the World Trade Center towers in NYC. The new system no longer relies solely on ground-based links.
  5. Yes, You can change the needles, They just pull off [ when pulling them off use a firm slow pull ] Grab the needle by the base and firmly pull off. Here is my recomendation, Replace all of the bulbs first and reinstall the cluster, When the cluster is back where it belongs you can take out the screws that hold just the smoked faceplate [ the piece you can see through ] Have the car warmed up to operating temp, turn the car off and pull the temp needle and push the new one on and start the car and see if the temp needle is where it is suposed to be [ like the old one ] There is a 45 degree adjustment for all the needles so by taking them off and pushing them back on to a different guage setting can be achieved. [ repeat for the tach needle ] There might be a little trial and error getting the right needle reading but that is it. You can just ut the needles on when you have the custer out but you are going to need to adjust them anyway and the more you install/reinstall the cluster the ore your chances are that you are going to break something. Good Luck Great! This sounds relatively uncomplicated. The dealer I spoke to about the needles told me they wouldn't just replace the needles, they would have to replace the whole cluster and it would be a $2k job! My guess is that once the cluster is back in place in the dash after changing the backlighting bulbs, the neg. terminal for the battery can stay connected while playing with the proper placement of the needles. Thanks for all your help dcfish.....much appreciated.
  6. "You definetly have to disconnect the neg. terminal from the battery first [if you don't your airbag light will stay on and have to be reset at the dealer ] The bulbs are pushed into the base which twists out of the circuit board, You have to twist out the base to get to the bulb. You can twist the bulb/base out with your fingers so you don't need a screwdriver. Circled in red in the attached pic are the acc. bulbs along the bottom of the cluster as you can see they are easy to twist out, I recomend changing all the bulbs while your in there [ TAKE A SMALL KNIFE AND SLIGHTLY PRY OUT THE CONTACTS ON EACH BULB BEFORE REPLACING THEM SO THEY WON'T VIBRATE LOOSE, Or you will have to bang on the top of the dash to get them to work], You'll have to remove both circuit boards to access all the bulbs. I have had the ES cluster apart more times that I would care to mention. If you have more Q's I will answer them for you if I can." Thanks dcfish...this is helpful. Do you know if replacing burnt-out gauge needles can be done without taking the car to a dealer? My temp and tach needles are dead and I know where I can get replacement needles but could I do it myself at the same time as replacing the backlight bulbs? Any instructions for doing this (if it's possible) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Lexucan
  7. I understand most of these instructions but what does "the lights are part of a twist base with a slot for a flat head screw driver" mean? Does this mean that the light bulb base is the Turn-and-Lock type? If so, what is the flat head screw driver needed for? Should the car battery be disconnected before changing the cluster backlight bulbs? Thanks, Lexucan
  8. Yeah, I had a little '67 Triumph Spitfire for a few years that was a blast. Drove it from B.C. to Mexico one summer.....what a trip. It was so low to the ground it felt like my butt was scraping the road :o and every bump was a jolt to the spine but it was sure a fun little machine to drive. I traded it in on a new TR7 the first year they were made - what a mistake that was. It was bright canary yellow and I called it my Lemon Wedge! It was fun to drive too, when it wasn't being repaired
  9. Mister-Z: I'll congratulate you if you'll congratulate me I bought my '93 ES300 last week and I'm loving it! Other than a few bulbs that needed replacements, everything works great and the exterior and interior are quite immaculate. I drove an '89 chevy cavalier for 8 years so it was a complete culture shock to make a such step up into an awesome car like the Lexus - so smooth, quiet, and luxurious, without being overly ostentatious.....just classy!
  10. Hi All: I recently purchased a '93 ES300 that didn't have a magazine (cartridge) for the Pioneer CD changer. I've found a magazine for it but can someone with the same system describe for me which way to insert the cartridge into the changer which is inside the trunk of the car? I don't really want to put it into the player the wrong way and end up with it getting jammed. Thanks
