  1. My recently acquired 1991 LS400 taillamp failure indicator lights up (and stays lit) as soon as I apply the brakes the first time after startup. All 8 (the 6 1157's and the 2 high-mount 921's) brake lights appear to be working when I do not have the headlights (or parking lights) on. The six 1157 bulbs also light up when I turn on the headlights by themselves. However, when I have both the headlights and the brakes on at the same time, the rear upper left bulb does not light. I have tried several things, initially just replacing that one bulb, and eventually replacing all 8 brake bulbs. Nothing has worked. I checked inside the taillamp failure box and it looks fine. I once had a similar problem in my 1989 toyota camry and fixed it by replacing a non-factory rear bulb with a genuine toyota bulb. Tried that with my Lexus but it did not work. Anyone have a similar problem? The previous owner changed the battery out just before I purchased it. He also had the power steering rack and pump changed which makes me wonder if the alternator has anything to do with this. The car has 94k miles. Thank you for your help.

The taillight warning circuit do have an input from the alternator. it receive the charging voltage from the alternator if i remember correctly not sure what exactly do, I had an early LS that did the same thing and the guy had an alternator from pepboys that was giving an idle charging voltage at slightly above 12.5 volts due to a faulty rectifier inside the alternator, replaced with an factory unit and the problem went away. you have to make sure your alternator output voltage is above 13.00 v at idle and take it from there.

    hope this helps....

Hello all, first post here. I did a search and couldn't find anyone with the same problem so I'm going to ask it here.

I've had my 2004 LX470 since May but I only recently acquired a bluetooth phone (Motorola V3). I synched the phone to the truck and it places and receives calls wonderfully (too bad the caller ID doesn't pass through the screen though). I've had one major problem though.

Whenever I use the phone it completely disables the Mark Levinson sound system. During a call I can understand this, but the sound system continues to be disabled after I hang up. I can't listen to music again unless I turn off the truck and start it up again.

The audio system will turn on, but it seems like the volume knob is disconnected. I turn it and there is no volume display on the console screen.

Is this something the dealer can fix for me or is there some setting that I am missing which controls this? I love using the Bluetooth phone and can't imagine going back to the old way! I just want to be able to listen to my ML sound system when I'm not on the phone!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Ryan

There's a problem with the amplifier on the early LX470 with bluetooth function. it will stay muted after a phone call. theres been an update on the amp. you should be able to bring it back to the dealer and have it replaced. :)

  3. Just got my 06 GX with Nav, bluetooth etc. I'm about to seek out new Sprint phones w/bluetooth technology and have a unique question. Can you have two bluetooth phones (separate numbers) operating at the same time in the GX?

    Thanks

    Mark

nope. as far as i know lexus bluetooth can only operate one phone at a time. :)

  4. Is it possible to manually input contacts and phone numbers into the nav system phone book, or is this only done through a transfer via the cell phone and bluetooth?  I have tried to manually input numbers but it is not allowing me to do so.  Thanks,

    Dan

one way to do it is to input the number you want to store into the car and place that call via the car. it does not have to go through, just hit the green call botton and hang up right after, than you can go into your outgoing call logs and store that contact and number.

  5. good call, but...

yes, the radio is getting power (the screen comes on, the antenna goes up, etc.) there simply isn't any sound being emitted by the speakers (not even a crackle or pop). i'm guessing the radio's amplifier is fried. i'm frightened to thin k what a dealership would charge. i've actually been looking for a replacement on ebay.

    thanks!

do you have a aftermarket installed? like a phone kit or something.....

  6. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in NYC for Lexus? I might need a transmission flush.

My GS300 shifts rougher now that I have 87k miles on it. Also, when i step on the gas there seems to be very LITTLE POWER until 2k RPM. At about 2k revs the car pulls harder as if I just started stepping on the gas. From a red light though some times the car feels like it's barely moving until 2k, sometimes the same happens from a rolling start. Has anyone experience this?

is that under normal throttle, light throttle or heavy throttle applications? does it feel like its banging into gear? I know someone whos a lexus tech thats might be able to help you, if you're interested I'll let him know.
