  1. The subwoofer in our '90 is blown, and the guys at car toys, best buy, and a local place said if we replace it, we have to get a whole new amp, and that if we're going to do that, we should get all new speakers too. The only other option they said is to order the OEm replacment from lexus, around $230. So is this true? You can't just replace the subwoofer? (The car has the premium sound system, I don't know if that makes a difference)
  2. Kisik, I have a question for you- what specifically did you replace when you did your timing belt? I found a local guy who only works with lexus and lexus parts, so I was looking into getting all of that stuff done (he mentioned the same things you did but no specifics) but he wants $1500, which sounds like a dealer figure. However, if I can get the parts, it will be $65/hr. So I thought I would try to get them all off newlexusparts.com. For example, did you have just the distributor rotor and cap replaced, or the igniter also? I just want to make a list to see what I am looking at costwise for the parts.
  3. I also forgot to ask, if we get some NGK iridium spark plugs, and it is alright for Midas to put those on for us, is there anything else we should do for a "tune-up" that a dealer might do?
  4. Hello all, I posted a while back about the suspension on my Lexus. We are pretty sure the rear right strut needs replacement, however the dealer wants over $1000 for the work. I recently had some work done on my Civic at Midas, and they told my husband and I that if we brought in Lexus parts, they could work on his car for $70 an hour. We found at newlexusparts.com the strut for $450, and considering over 2 hours labor this means we could replace it for around 600. So we thought, well, we could buy the timing belt and other things and save enough money that we could afford to get a lot of work done. What do you all think? If we can't get it done at Midas, we can't afford to do a lot of these repairs for at least another year, and the midas guys seemed knowledgeable. Thanks!
  5. Hi, We went to Pepboys the other day and I noticed all these "cleaners" you put in with the gas, like fuel injection cleaner and gas treatment, and additives to put in with your oil, like a transmission "cleaner". Do any of these really do what they claim to do? If we use the gas additive, does it really help keep carbon deposits away? It would be nice if they did work, but I am very skeptical before putting them into our LS400. So I just thought I would see what you all think. Thanks, Diana
  6. Well, the car is parked on a slant when it does this for the most part. Our parking lot at the apartment slopes downhill. The funny thing is, the car slants in the direction of the slope, so that it looks tilted at the same angle as the slope. Sometimes, though, it does do this a little bit on what appear to me to be level surfaces. Thanks!
  7. Hello All, I am new to the board. My husband and I bought a 90 LS400 in April for what we thought was a good deal ($5k) I would be interested in knowing if you all think that was a fair price. But we are very happy with the car, except one problem:the air suspension. A few weeks after we got the car, the entire thing leaned to the right. We took it to the dealer and paid $1500 to replace the front right strut, which when I called Midas they said was similar to what they would charge. Now, I have noticed a very slight difference in the height of the car over the tire. The rear left strut seems slightly higher than the rear right one when parked. Should the car have that strut replaced? Or I guess I better question would be, will it damage the car to not fix it? It would be about another thousand and the a/c and some other problems have some up with our other car, an old civic... I'm glad to see that there are many people who enjoy their late model Lexuses! Thanks -Diana
