  1. Thanks for all the replys guys, shorty after posting I ran across Lextreme's site, WOW! awesome site!
  2. I've been lurking around for the past month or so, scheming on ways to get free power out of my sc400. So here are my thoughts/ ideas, Id like to hear other peoples comments/suggestions before I go into such endeavors. 1) Electric cooling fan (obvious first choice, I've been doing this on mustangs for years) Well to my dismay and amazement, the cooling fan is powered by the power steering pump!?!?!?! Now THAT'S a first! If I scrapped the power steering powered fan, (probably a good idea anyway since these cars are known for power steering pump failures anyway. hmm, wonder why? ;) ) Do you think I would gain any rear wheel power from the reduced load on the power steering pump. Unfortunalty probably not, I know Im grasping at straws on this one. 2) Underdrive pulley kit. Is there such an animal available for 1uz's? If not this may be something I'm going to look into creating. Unless you guys present me with any reasons why underdriving any of the components would be a particularly bad idea, please DON'T hesitate to let me know if you think so! :D 3) MY idea for a BFI (not free power, but on my mind so ill put it here) I understand the thinking behind the BFI and it is a perfect idea for turbo cars. BUT on the V8's we have no intercooler under the passenger side headlight section. Why not extend the air intake below that and directly into the path of the far right double vent that the intercooler uses on the turbo cars, with say a k&n conical filter on the end? This would ALSO have the benefit of moving the air inlet as far away as possible from ambient engine heat and maintaining a colder air temperature. Possible reasons this hasn't been done. A ) Heavy dirt flow in that area? possible kicked up by the reverse vent into the wheelwell? this could be compensated for by blocking all airways out of that chamber, having the dual effect of forcing all incoming air to one exit point.(the filter), and by blocking any dirt/debris kicked up by the tire. B ) Most the people developing these ideas have v6 turbo cars? C ) No one thought of that yet? cant believe this one, but mentioning it anyway. D ) Some other reason that is bad that I missed (please tell me if you know this reason!) That's all I have for now. Just some ideas I've had that I thought I would present to get shot down.. Please post your thoughts/ comments. Thanks!
  3. I recently purchased a 93 Sc400, and have been reading alot, and it seems near impossible to get any real power increases without the use of forced induction, Why is this? Ive been a mustang owner all my life, so I am somewhat spoiled by the plethora of aftermarket performance parts available. With mustangs you can get a fairly decent power increase from just intake, filter and exhaust (~30-40 hp), along with a dozen other free horsepower mods. Is it just that these 1uz's breathe THAT well from the factory? I dont see ANY way that could be true by the looks of the microscopic breather to the air intake, OR the labrynth of exhaust parts in these cars. (I screamed :o when I saw BOTH headers fed into a single 2.5" cat!!!!). Is there even a performance intake available for these cars? It seems there must be a way to get a 30-40 hp increase without massive high dollar work(radical cams, forced induction, raised compression, or anything that requires new internals, etc..). Are they just cammed ultra conservative? Any explanation or direction would be greaty apriciated. Im in a state where I can cheat on emisions, and considered scrapping all 3 of the cats, but from what ive read I loose low end power by doing that!?!?! Is that correct? Any direction/comments/suggestions are greatly appriciated. Thanks! :D p.s. Awesome forum guys!!!
  4. I too have EXACTLY this same problem, mostly on CD-r's (imagine that :P ). Did you ever send the unit to have it refurbished? I assume that this problem is just because its an older model Cd player (pre CD-r). Is this unit interchangable in any way with a later model unit? say from a 2000 sc400? Thanks.
  5. I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I cant seem to find the answer so here goes. I bought a cup holder for my 93 sc400, and went to put it in, and there is this blocker plate that covers up(I assume) where the cup holder clips onto. it has two felt coated tabs in there, ive tried to pull it out/ pry it out by the tabs to no avail. Is there some trick to this I am missing? how does that thing come out?!?!?! Thanks for any help. EDIT: I must be blind, cause a link to the tutorial was 3 threads down! http://www.lexuspros.com/tutorial6.htm
