  1. First of all, Ive been researching to see if another person has had the same issue as me and I came up with this

    http://www.fixya.com/cars/t3493357-2001_lexus_rx300_problem_when

This person has the exact same issue as me. However I would like to add a few things. The vibrating/nasty sound (It holds the car back for about 2-3 seconds and does not let it accelerate smoothly) only happens when accelerating from a stand still and when this occurs the traction signal lights up in my dash.

Another thing I would like to add is that I went to a trip 2 weeks ago and I set the parking brake overnight. The next morning, the "problem/issue" occurred for about a minute and I had to forcefully by accelerating get the car to move. Then I heard sort of a whinning noise as I drove, but that went away after about a minute.

It leads me to believe that something is sticking such as the parking brake. This is what the website above mentioned, "parking brake dragging".

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

P.S. This is driving me crazy as I have had this issue for about a year and its getting worse and worse...

  2. Trading in my 02 Rx-300 soon. Would like to either trade for your current tires plus cash or sell the tires outright. I purchased these tires brand new about a month ago and have put no more than 150 miles on them. I have reciepts to prove purchase of tires and proof that tires were balanced and car was aligned at time of purchase.

I paid about $150 for each tire and most of you should already know how great and expensive these tires are.

I am located in Queens NY and would like to do a local deal. We will discuss pricing once I have a interested buyer. Thanks

  3. Others in the past have had the ABS activation problem and it does not produce any lights (CEL or ABS). From what I have heard about the sensors they are usually corroded and difficult to clean. So be careful with them. They list for about $200 each. I have read of some breaking the sensor during cleaning when it wasn't the problem.

If you are not sure your vibration is the ABS kicking in, you may want to verify this first. You can do this by removing the ABS fuse block in the fuse box. Of course nothing is at easy as it should be. You can't just pull it out. It is bolted from the bottom. You need to remove 2 10mm bolts (I think) plus some plastic clips to get at the bolt holding the fuse. Once the fuse is removed your ABS light will be on and your car will drive as a car without ABS. This will verify if your vibration is really coming from the ABS system. If it is, it is almost always caused by the ABS sensor ring which is part of the axle. In fact I can't remember any RX ABS activation problem that wasn't caused by this. Of course checking and cleaning the sensors should be your first step after you determine it is ABS activation causing your vibration. But the odds are against the sensor and with the sensor ring.

1 more thing, I was reading through the ABS activation threads and it seems that issue is when you step on the brake the ABS kicks in. My issue is that out of nowhere when I am completely stopped at a red light lets say. Light turns green and I step on the gas, the car hardly moves and it sounds/feels like if the ABS were kicking in the rear driver wheel. I think they are two separate issues...

  4. Hello everyone, I was driving last night and noticed when I tried to accelerate that car would vibrate for 3 seconds and sounded like the ABS was kicking in. During the 3 seconds the car would barely move, sort of like if you try to accelerate with the hand brake on. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks

  5. Hello everyone, first of all my car has about 92k miles. While driving, the CEL light popped up and the VSC light also lit. I have an OBDII scanner and I check the code, the code is P0420 which is catalyst efficiency below threshold. I researched and some said that it could be the weather, gas, etc. So I removed the code and the CEL came back within 150 miles. Now I am stuck in a dilema. Can someone please direct me to what steps I should take now, what should I look for and what should I replace. I have also noticed that my gas mileage has decreased tremendously. Please someone help. Thanks and have a great night..

  6. I have been experiencing some problems (with opening and closing the passenger side window and the rear driver side window) for months now buts its getting to the point where it's becoming difficult to close the window. First off, from time to time the passenger side window will not close using the window switch or using the driver window switch. The rear passenger side has also been closing on its own (ghost??). Lets say I open the rear window, 30 sec later it closes on its own. Anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be or if anyone has experienced this issue.

P.S. If anyone could instruct me on how to take off the door panels, or even maybe a PDF file on the directions.

Thanks and please help someone because I dont want to get caught in a rain storm not being able to close my windows.

  7. Hello, I have a 02 rx300 AWD and I am about to replace the timing belt/water pump this weekend so I need to order everything needed ASAP. I figured I need to order the timing belt and water pump. What else do I need to replace (pulleys/hydraulic tensioner)? If someone can please also list the part numbers of ALL the parts needed. Thanks so much.

    -Pablo

Pablo- How many miles do you have on it? I don't have the parts numbers but unless you have a lot more than the recommended 90k mi. you probably don't need to change any of it, at the very most the timing belt. When I changed my DIL's timing belt at 97k it looked like it had 20k on it. (it was the original belt) I did not change the water pump or idler pulleys and when I checked them at 120k they still felt like new. They put some VERY robust parts on these vehicles. I would personally only use original parts. It's your money and your car but you probably won't be changing them because they're worn, just to give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Good Luck!

Hey, thanks. The vehicle has about 87k miles on it. I was speaking to a buddy and he says that I should change the hydraulic tensioner..

  9. Hello everyone, Im in the market for purhcasing new brake rotors and pads and front/rear struts. My question is that OEM parts are expensive (if they are worth it, I will go with them instead), is there any other rotors (blanks) in the market that are just as good. I dont want the rotors too warp quickly. Secondly, what kind of brake pads would you guys recommend (low dust and noise but good stopping power).

Now to this important question, looking through EBay, ive found a couple of stores selling KYB GR2 struts for great prices. Has anyone ever tried them, hows the ride quality compared to OEM struts? Are they worth it or should I stick with OEM parts.

Thanks to everyone who helps and contributes to my thread.

    -Pablo

What is your reasoning for replacing the front/rear struts?

And for that matter what about the rotors.

I've just installed, probably the sixth set, of brake pads on my 95 LS400, 210,000 miles, and the rotors have never been replace or turned.

3rd set on my 01 AWD RX300, approaching 70,000 miles, and with original rotors and...struts.

When I buy brake pads I do not want the ones with a wear warranty and I can "live" with dust and even noise in favor of stopping power. In reality brake pad noise is generally easily solved by chamferring the pad edges, metal shims, liquid rubber application, and proper brake sliding surface (NOT pad/rotor) lubrication.

Thanks for the reply, as for the struts. I bought an 02 rx300 with 50k miles 2 years ago. Since then I have put around 30k miles and am currently sitting at 82k miles. The suspension has been sounding going over bumps/potholes. I know for sure its not the strut mounts since I have already replaced them once before. I would feel more confortable spending some money and swapping to a new suspension. I have heard the KYB are a bit stiffer than OEM but Im thinking I have never driven a RX with "0" miles so Im assuming the KYB should feel smoother than how my car felt previously.

As for the rotors, they are warped. When I bought the car, they were already warped from the previous owner. So I decided to resurface the rotors and replace the pads. That was a quick fix but I dont agree with cutting them. So Im looking to replace them. Im almost certain that I am going with Brembo blanks front and rear and Im not decided on the pads. Thats why Im asking for any recommendations.

    Thanks

  11. Hello I will be installing the new 6.1 version on my 02 rx300. I would like to know if there are any precautions that I need to take before installing it? I dont want any errors afterwards. Can someone tell me step by step on how the procedures I need to take to install it. Thanks again for any help...

  12. Thank you so much, I went to best buy and bought a cd lense cleaner and cleaned it a couple of times. Afterwards I put in a cd and finally it worked perfectly like when I bought the car, clear and clean... I will be cleaning it every week from now on. Thank you so much dcfish for the advice.

  13. every time I play a cdr disk, the sound quality is bad and I have tried the same cd on another car and it sounds good. Also recently the changer wont play the disk or take 5 min to get started, I cant switch tracks because it will no longer play the cd. Let me know if you can get the instructions. Thanks
