  1. ok, so i guess ill just live with bad alignment. that seems like more $$ than i would be willing to spend. I guess i'll just change the drivers side tire a little more often because thats the only one with VERY uneven wear. After all, $40 once a year makes more sense to me than the $300 + alignment right now
  2. wait, what is system that the 97 has that restricts the engine from doing any damage to itself is the t belt snaps??
  3. Thats what i thought, too. but i saw the guy heat the things up and try as hard as he can to get them turning. He quoted me about $60 each for inner and ~$80 each for outer(incl. labor), or vise versa. my car has 125k miles and is a 96. Any ideas with that sunroof rattle? thanks again
  4. I figured i'd place a few questions in one post: 1. I finally figured out that the rattling in my car is coming from the sunroof. If im not mistaken, there was a write-up on how to fix it, but i cant find that thread. can anyone send me a link? 2. Ahh, the dreaded window alignment. I know that i've asked this before, but i took your advice and looked in the FSM's for a window alignment procedure. I couldnt find ANY information regarding window alignments in the FSMs. Maybe i'm not looking in the right place. Again, if someone can point me in the right direction, i would be very grateful. 3. One last thing: My alignment is out of wack and my mechanic tells me that i need new inner and outer tie rods. Any place to get these things CHEAP? any diy methods to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
  5. 1996 lexus ES300 - White/Tan 125,000 miles Bought used from dealer in PA at 119,000 miles for $6600 about 7 months ago. Excellent condition, no cracks or tears in the leather, the only thing is that it was repainted (you can tell if you look for the marks), but no sign of any accident damage. The cupholder was broken but i fixed it!! :D Repairs: Flex joint fixed (on the y-pipe) - took out the broken piece and welded a new one in $150 Drivers door body molding was stolen overnight in front of my house(!!!!!!), but i found one on ebay for $20 shipped and paid $25 to some local shop to install it. Other than that, its just been oil changes and a brake job. Tires replaced with Falken Ziex512 - Superb handling and hydroplaning resistance, especially at $40 each!! Tie Rods (both inner and outer) are shot, but it's too expensive to replace them just for the sake of an alignment. No mods Paying $2200 annualy for liability in NYC, 19 years old P.S. Does anyone know how to fix the rattle in the sunroof?? I thought i saw a thread on it at one time but i cant seem to find it.
  6. hey, i finally got down to the fsm ('93es) and i just can't find anything that mentions window alignments. Do you know where it says anything about it?
  7. i bought my 96 es300 a few months ago and the wind noise is just getting worse and worse. i noticed that everyone says that its the window alignment so i decided to fix it. after taking off my door panel, i asked myself: "Which bolt do i have to turn to align the dam window??" Can anybody help me please? a picture would be the best. my car is just sitting there now without a door panel, i dont want to put it back on before i fix it. Let me tell you, that panel does wonders for noise insulation!
  8. Whoa guys, i mean i like my lexus and all, but I'm just a poor college student trying to pay off my insurance. Any reccomendations for $50 tires? I was thinking maybe some Yokohama's? ← Michelins will be WAY out of your price range (decent tires, but frankly overpriced). ;) Two other possibilities would be the new Yokohama Avid TRZ or the Falken Ziex ZE-512 (only the Yoko's are sold on tirerackl however). I know from experence the Falkens are just fantastic (made by Sumitimo), but no personal experence with the new Yoko's......but they look pretty good. Falken's are good for 60,000 miles & will be slightly less expensive & the Yokos are good for 80,000 miles. Both are in & around your price range. Here is some more info: http://www.falkentire.com/tires_512.htm http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...eModel=AVID+TRZ ← I know the yoko's are supposed to be quiet, but what about quietness for the falkens? My friend says that they are great for some cheap performance, but i have no idea of their comfort or noise levels.

  10. I took the car to my mechanic, and it was the y-pipe. the metal mesh part had broken off from the rest of the pipe, so the gases werent even going as far as the cat. Thanks for all your help, guys! cost me $165 to cut that piece out and weld a new one in. The car is quieter than ever, but now i have to do something about those noisy, worn out tires......
  11. Y pipe. Notorious for cracking, Have the engine mounts checked also. ← how do you check the y-pipe? is it something i can easily replace myself, or would it be hard without a lift?
  12. Driving yesterday night, i noticed that my engine was a little bit louder than usual. Gradually, it grew louder and louder. Then i stopped by Dunkin donuts, got a coffee, turned my car on, and now it sounds like the 5.0 liter mustang that wakes up the whole neighborhood at night. (which i did). Anyway, what can it be, beside the muffler?
