  1. The rubber moulding strip on the bottom of the driver and passenger doors are beginning to tear. The dealer wants $270 to replace them. Anyone know where I can source the parts? Are they hard to replace myself?
  2. Start with these. Wal-Mart now sells the new Silverstar High Performance Halogen (bright white), model number 9006ST (low beam) and 9005ST (high beam), cost is $37.00/pair. After that, lots of options.
  3. So I went to the Lexus home page and registered as an owner of a 98 GS300. It tells me that I have a four speed auto transmission. I must be wrong thinking I have a five speed. Can I be that wrong? Notice my login name. Help. thanks.
  4. Dealers charge way too much for extended warranties. Search the internet for an aftermarket extended warranty and save big bucks!
  5. Go to http://www.tirerack.com/ and do some research.
  6. Okay, I went through one of those car washes with the cloth strips that wave back and forth, and the strips that spin along the sides of the car. It's winter and I wanted to get rid of all the salt that attaches itself to the side panels. The rubber strip along the bottom of the passenger and driver's doors tore back about 4 inches on one side, and about 10 inches on the other. I can apply some adhesive and re-attach them, but does anyone know if they are easily replaceable? Please don't yell at me about the car wash selection... I feel bad enough driving around with stuff hanging off my car doors. Thanks!
  7. I have seen magnetic drain plugs from $6.95 on eBay to $21.95 from racing companies. Sounds good in thoery, and the photos are either convincing or a good marketing ploy. Any experience out there? Thanks
  8. I bought a 98 GS300 one year ago with 57k miles. I have owned about 30 cars in my life - I'm 55, and this is by far the finest I have ever owned. I have always babied my cars. I took two Saabs to 175k miles each and expect to go well over 200k with this. Repairs appear to be expensive, so people search for independent and Toyota mechanics. There is lots of help and advice in this forum, so you're never alone. Misery loves company, but in this case it's a wise decision.
  9. Thanks much. If it sounds too good to be true...
  10. Hey, some months ago I remember reading about a chip replacement that added about 20 horsepower. Does anybody know whatever happened to this? Was it just a scam? thanx.
  11. This is my first winter with a 98 GS300. I am about to purchase snow tires. Some one has said that I must have four... is that true? I was planning on just two for the rear. Please help. Thanx
  12. Hey Steve, I just emailed you and got an error undeliverable. Anything special about your address? I copied and pasted it from your message. Thanks.
  13. If a group purchase is forming, count me in!

  16. Should be working but I'm reading as many postings as I can. Bought a used 98 GS300 and I am very pleased after 4 months. I can't perform all the modifications you guys talk about and with four kids I'm too busy to learn. Could you please give me two or three must-do's, and two or three must-not do's? Appreciate all the help!
  17. My 98 got 20mpg this winter and about 22 this summer in Chicago.
