  1. i am getting the message "map dvd incorrect? on my navigation screen and my map navigation system is not working. i tried ejecting the cd from the box in the trunk but nothing comes out. o don't know if there is a problem with the cd or if someone removed the cd (like at the car wash or something) if the cd was removed, would it give that error message? how do i fix it?

First, what year and model is your vehicle.

Second, have you installed another DVD map disc lately or changed something in the hidden menu?

The error message indicates that the wrong DVD map disc has been installed OR you have changed the COUNTRY tab in a hidden menu. If you changed the COUNTRY tab then you should see Japanese below the error message.

If the DVD map disc does not eject after sliding the small cover (right) and pushing down on the button, then the navigation computer has failed.

If it has failed you can buy a reman unit (86841-33060-OW) from either a Lexus or Toyota dealership. No repair is available for these units.

Can you tell us how to change the Country table in hidden menu ??

My car is 2007 IS250, thanks

No one is able to change this setting. This feature was disabled after countless users changed the tab "by accident" while poking around.

  2. have 07 es350 with standard sound package, bought it pre-owned. not happy with audio, no matter how i set it. if i replace radio with after market--leave speakers alone--will that solve my problem??----sound is clear it's just not rich,if that makes any sense.----Thanks.

You need to get the system analyzed with an real time analyzer (RTA). The RTA will identify if equalization is an issue and display the frequency response of your audio system.

Aside from that you need to determine the source units signal to noise ratio and dynmaic range. Ditto for the amplifier too. My guess is that neither are good. My humble guess is that its 60Hz to 16kHz.

Additionally, I bet the amplifier and speakers are okay.

A great aftermarket installer can identify what is missing and make some suggestions. The system should have a smooth response with no more than 3dB change from octave to octave. And it should have a strong front stage and just a tag bit of rear fill.

If they aren't MECP certified and don't know what IASCA stands for then you should walk. Otherwise they will probably just want to sell you some gear.

  3. I see that this thread is over a year old. I was trying to see if there have been any updates. This would be a lot more convenient.

I agree. I am trying to get my Verizon Storm to stream music over the bluetooth in my 07 RX350 but have not been successful ashte Lexus BT apparently does not support the

    A2dp . Anyone know of a workaround?

The new 10MY RX350 and 10MY Camry will support A2DP. The current systems do not support A2DP v1.3 or v1.0.

  6. Hey everyone, I recently dropped a boat load of money on a premium eclipse stereo system for my 95 gs 300. I modified the speaker boxes to fit "5.5 inch speakers, added a pair of "6.5 inch speakers to the back of the car, replaced the sub woofer with a brand new eclipse woofer, added to huge eclipse amps (one for Highs and one stricktly for the subs) and two '12 s in the trunk... and hooked it all up to an eclipse avn 5435 nav system... I wired the whole thing my self and it took me weeks... But I did a professional Job down to the last detail. The main problem I am expieriencing is engine noise coming right through the speakers when the car is running. as you turn up the volume it gets drowned out, but it's always there.. I am clueless as to how to fix this... I made sure I got good ground. Also I cant find the wire for power antenna to connect to the radio... and I cant find the speed sensor amongst that sea of wires connected to the ECM... Please HELP!

Does the noise increase with the engine RPM? If so, you have alternator whine. This is due to a 'noisy' ground, bad ground, RCAs traveling next to a high current wire, or poor power filtering at the source or amps. Additionally, you shouldnt hear this noise coming from the subs since the filter in the amp blocks at that particular frequency due to the low pass filter. In the future, use twisted pair RCAs which are excellent at rejecting induced noise.

Or is the noise constant? If so, you have an RCA traveling past a computer. If so, find where the RCAs are traveling across a small metal box. The vehicle's computers are known to emit radio frequency which can be induced onto the RCAs. To verify if this is the case run sum long RCAs from the radio, outside the car into the trunk and see if the noise goes away.

My guess is that the difference in ground potential is the culprit. That means the resistance to ground at the source unit is different in comparison to the resistance to ground at the amplifier. Try moving the amp ground wire to another point in the vehicle to see if this changes the level of the noise. Likewise, try moving the source ground to another point to see if the noise decreases.

How old is the battery? The battery is the primary device to filter out AC ripple from the alternator. Older batteries are known to allow more AC ripple through to the system. And of course the only way to detect this is via an osciliscope or when you can hear the alternator whine. To check this just connect jumper cables to another (newer) car and power your audio system with their electrical system. Leave your engine OFF during this test.

Speed pulse will have to be found at the instrument cluster. You will need an electronic wiring diagram to find the correct wire to tap for the vehicle speed pulse (VSS).

    Good luck!

  7. I am adding a sub to my car and I am curious on the process that someone would go through to do this. I am going to add a 12" Rockford fosgate sub and a Kenwood amplifier. I am going to fun a remote cable for easy bass adjusting up to the driver's seat. The only problem is I don't know how someone would hook it up to the radio itself. I have the ML system with NAV and all I am doing is adding this sub to it, I'm not changing anything stock whatsoever. how would it work to have it hooked up? Would the volume on the sub be turned up with the radio volume? even though I have the bass remote and controls on the amp itself, will the sub's bass be increased when I increase the Stock system's bass?

What I am trying to say is that I want to control the bass of the stock and the sub separately, (remote vs. controls on the NAV system) but I want the volume of the sub to go up with the radio! Is this possible?

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it if someone can help me with this!

You would need an amplifier with high-level inputs instead of low-level inputs (RCA are low level). Does the Kenwood have speaker level inputs? If not, you need to buy an adaptor to convert the high level inputs to low level in order to have the radio in the dash control the relative volume.

  8. Does any one know how to reset a ES300 2002 Nav Sys. I get an error message that says can not read data check to see if DVD is correct.

First, the ten digit part number on the disc should be 86271-3303X; the last digit does not matter. If you have something else besides a -3303x then you have the wrong disc installed.

Second, did you select a different country in the LOADING TAB section hidden within the diagnostic screen? If YES, then you will have to buy a new or remanufactured navigation ECU. The part number is 86841-47020-OW.

    Hope this helps.

  9. I thought it would make an adjustment based on how fast you were actually traveling. That is how my friend's Denali Nav seems to work.
I have a GX470 and was traveling about 280 miles on a trip. The distance was correct, but the estimated travel time was WAY off. It seemed like it was about double of the time it would take. For example 280 miles at 70mph showed as 8 hours not 4.

    Any ideas?

Not sure if your is the same but on my RX it has preset speeds. They normally are low. Example: highway 55mph not 60 or 70. If you go in and adjust the speeds so that they are more in line with the way you drive it will help. Mine still overestimates the time it will take.

So ask yourself this first, "How can it know the ETA before I begin driving?" The answer is, the system has some general parameters it uses to the make the initial calculations. As the other respondendent noted... adjust your SET SPEED to match your driving habits. I am sure the Denali has the same feature since the software/hardware are made by the same company.

  10. Hello

I have to be honest when I say I tripped over this group while I was on line, and I am very excited about it.. I have had my ES 330 for 3 years ( 2004) and I love it, i have had little to no issues with it.

I use my navagation alot, and I am fining that in this growing city ( las Vegas) alot of streets , places and such are not on the origional version.. I would like to update it, when I asked the dealer they said they would be happy to do it for $389 + Tax, now that just seems a bit expensive to me for software.. So I am looking for another option, I looked on ebay and there are a zillion upgrades and Im not sure if I should go that route.. as far as I am consered I dont need the newest one, but maybe the last year update if that would save $$.

    I have questions.

    1) where can I get a update part# ?

    2) Is there a place ( including ebay) where I can get it for less.

    3) when I get it , how easy is it to instal ( is it a menu driven instalation)

    any advice would be welcome,

    Thanks in advance

    Paula

Your 2004 ES330 is a GEN 4 system. The disc part number your require is 86271-3304X.... the higher the last digit the newer the map disc. If you buy it from Lexus the part number is PT219-GEN04-07. MSRP is $250.

Lastly, just press the open button on the navigation unit and eject the DVD map disc. Simply installed the new disc and your done.

  11. Two Questions

A bit confused as to why needs to stay within a generation. If the nagivation system is a computer, why can one not update its operationg system?

I am considering updating from Version 4 (gen2/3) to 7.1 (generation?). Where can one find out the changes that have occured between versions?

    thanks in advance

    gary

You can't add Windows Vista to an old computer. Why? The processor and memory won't meet the minumum requirements.

If you have a GEN 2/3, 4 or 5 system (you didn't say what the vehicle year and model were) then you will always have a GEN 2/3, 4 or 5 system. However, when you buy and update it will ONLY update the mapping information with new streets, POIs, etc.

If it is a hardware issue, can it be updated (e.g. memory) or does it require the complete navigation sysytem to be replaced?

Unfortunetely, no alternative hardware can be added other than aftermarket gear.

  13. I have an 07 GS350 with Nav. My brother has an 08 RX350 with Nav as well. Both systems state that they are 6.1 version. My GS350 only goes down to 150 ft magnification while the RX350 Nav goes down to 75 ft magnification. That really will help when trying to find something.

Since they are both the same Nav version, shouldn't they work the same?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

The ability to zoom in to 75ft is dependent upon the area your in. Major cities such as Los Angeles allows you to zoom in to 75ft.

  14. Hi

I have a 2003 LS 430 with Nav. I have yet to update the navigation DVD and was thinking of doing so. If I were to update the DVD what new features would I get? Is it just more POIs and roads or is there other things also?

Furthermore I talked to a friend who was also thinking of updating and went to the local Lexus dealership to inquire about obtaining the new DVD. The mechanic told him that he should wait for the next version to come out because it would contain so much more. Is this true and if so when is the expected release date for the new DVD?

    Thanks in Advance

The updates for GEN2, 3, and 4 are to the POIs and roads only. You will not experience any other enhancements to the operating system.

  15. I am considering a purchase of a 2003 - 2005 GS430, and looking into updating the nav system with the latest gen once I have the car. My question is, what exactly changes when you update the nav? Is it just the map itself, or do you end up with a different interface and possibly different capabilities? I read that the 2005 version added some functionality, such as bluetooth and the camera option. Would I find more options with an upgraded 2003 model or an upgraded 2005 model? Forgive me, I forget which Gen each of those is (4 and 5 i think).

MUCH appreciated. Been reading posts all night - great board.

The DVD map updates only improve the map database. There are no visible changes to the operating system that affect the user interface.

  16. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being curious. In fact, I tried to see how my portable Garmin Nuvi would react when I programmed in an address in Puerto Rico, even though I had NO intentions of going there. LOL

Just dont access a hidden menu that is not listed anywhere in the owners manual and select something that you dont know what it will do. That is like going to REGEDIT in Windows and delete a file and wonder why something doesn't work.

And I will let the old cliche about the cat stand on its own merit.

  17. I know that I have seen this somewhere on the site, but can someone tell me how to identify the current version of the navigation software on my 08 RX 350? I just convinced the dealer to replace my version 6.1 with 7.1 (complimentary, may I add) and I want to make sure I got the 7.1 version. Where is it located on the navigation screen?

Press MENU panel button, then touch DVD icon at the top right of the screen. You should then see what version is installed.

  18. I have recently locked up my gen3 navigation system on my 2003 ES300, by hitting the US tab in the secret menu. I have have tried acessing the secret menu again to change this back and now I do not have access to this menu anymore to reset the system. Lexus is telling me that I am screwed and that I have to buy a 2000 dollar system to repair this issue. I refuse to believe that nobody has been able to come up with a fix for this. Lexus has a recovery disk but I am told it will not work for the gen 3 system. If anyone has access to the recovery disk I would like to try it. I believe this is a money thing for Lexus and they will make money by not helping with this. Is they anyone out there that can help me. I am sure that I am not the only one that has this problem.

Good luck. The recovery disk is for GEN 4 only. Now you must accpet the consequences of your actions.

Nice thanks for your help you must be the navigation police maybe it would have been better if you had not replied at all. Thanks again and have a nice day. Also if you work for lexus they must be very proud. The only thing I did was access the menu on an operation system and make a mistake you make it sound like a broke laws therefore I must pay. You kind of help no one needs

I sincerely hope the rescue disc resolves your issue. I hold no malice towards you, but I am suprised by peoples reactions when they do something silly like select another country for their navigation system when they never have the intention of driving it in that country.

  19. I have an 03 Lexus with NAV / Levinson sound. the radio has a mind of it's own, sometimes there is sound other times there isn't. The display is always on, and the NAV voice always works. I have checked all fuses. I thought that it might reset if I disconnected the battery, but it did not. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Check diagnostics.

    2. How do I check diagnostics? Pay $10 to get get 1 days access to Technical Information Systems (TIS). This allow you unlimited access to learn how to diagnose your vehicle and download wiring diagrams.

    3. Or visit a Lexus dealership to have them diagnose the vehicle.
