  1. you could go with a soarer engine, or just get any decent bolt on turbo. If you have the supra turbo already, change the head on your 2jz to a supra TT Top end. As far as the tranny goes. you will need some rear end parts from a supra, and a little welding but its not too hard of a job. The Getrag (supra) tranny is a much better tranny than the stock 5sp, that can only handle a max of about 350 hp anyway. Happy Hunting

  2. It could be all those things, but you want to know waht happened to me? I had just filled up my tank at a gas station and then my car stalled. being in near perfect condition, i was flabbergasted. (wow , did i just say that... im such a nerd...) I realized...oh it could be the gas!... Well i was right. Living in miami, the gas attendant told me i was the 6th person that morning (and it was only 6 am!!! ) that had used premium and the car shut off. He said it usually happens when it rains really hard and water seeps into the tanks of gas underground. Needless to say i got a new engine. Happy hunting

  3. whatever...

both cars have 300hp roughly. The Z is faster, but if you are comparing it to a lexus, use the upscale G35 coupe. As far as i know the G35 did NOT recieve the anniversary 300hp engine leaving it at the base 265hp. The last stats I looked at stated a 0 to 60 of 5.9-6.1 seconds depending on who or what magazine tested them. Who said 5.3??!!! that is ludicrous!!! Thats almost M3 territory!!! So even if you use the 5.9 time, thats about half a sec faster than the newest sc400. Where the G35 dominates is the moving acceleration speeds, say 30 to 50 or 50 to 80 and so forth. Since the sc400 is stuck with a 4sp auto, the gears are much longer through these speeds. Thus the car suffers in top end. The only thing that matters is power to weight ratio. Thats the only way to get a fast car. I mean, look at lotus....

  4. wow bro, i hope you didnt buy it.... If you did, you are in for one expensive overhaul.... Definetely coolant or water in your engine from bad seals.... Ouch...

My uncle has a 91 toyota 4cyl pickup. Ran it too hard towing one day and then white smoke down the expressway. The seals were gone and a mix of water and coolant spilled into the engine. he came home the next day with a used 3.0L V6. The engine was useless afterwards... even though it drove 5 miles home...

  5. you can buy an axle back tip from any company, just make sure the dimensions fit. As far as size goes, if you are going to do serious work, then it might be different, but as for a N/A engine, dont go bigger then 3". Anything bigger than that and you will lose low end power and not gain anything more top end. I would do 2 and 3/4 inch mandrel bent piping with Borla tips. I have yet to find a better sounding exhaust. i wish i had an example. My friend's GS400 in person will have to do. Sorry.

  6. No as far as just the overall shell of the car.... Luck is all i can say. What i would do is try and find the highest mileage car you want in the body style you want and sell what you dont want for scraps. As far as the size of the engine bay, the only difference in space comes from the engine mounts, as they obviously are needed for different engines. Look for 92-93 sc w/ high miles and then spend 600-800$ on a 97 and up front bumper as that is the only mayor diff in the newer models. Happy hunting....

  7. i wouldnt change the viscosity of the oil. I would just switch to the reg blend. Full synth does have a tendency to seep through old seals, so the switch to a reg blend would be best. To actually atain the full benefits of synthetic oil, you would have to have used synthetic early on in engine life and keep using it. To switch to syntheic after so many miles is moot. Such tests have actually shown a loss in Hp when an engine that has been broken in on reg oil was switched to synthetic. Granted it was a 1-2 hp loss, nothing more dramatic than what you would feel with the a/c on or off, but you get the drift....

just so you know though... im not sure how the new "high miles formulas" work. Havent found any reports on those yet...

  8. good luck bro, whatever it costs you to mod a tranny to fit the 400 engine, you could prob find a used 2jz block and do some work to it. The 5spd standard tranny is good for about 350 hp, maybe 400 if you dont have a lead foot..... eh scratch that... about 350 hp, and judging from what you want out of the car, that should be plenty...

  9. whats up dstrbd1, um well since ur engine has some high miles, i would consider some internal work to make sure the engine can handle a blower. As far as cost goes, expect some where around 5 grand give or take a grand. Pricing varies as far as the brand you get, whether or not you intercool, the boost you want to run, and again the internals. As far as ive heard, the 400 engine is not so simple to work on. If you are looking for a long term car, save up to do a swap for a 2jz-gte and you have a much easier more reliable speed machine. Oh and find a mechanic with good references for that much work either way you go... Good luck and happy hunting

  10. whoa!! Glad i looked at the old posts!!! Hey I have a 93 sc300 with unfortunately an auto tranny... I dont know anything about Getrag tranny's. How do they compare with say, Tremec's T-56 6spd, used in cars like the stang cobra, or HKS 6spd tranny's? And if you know of any in the miami area, or a good person to swap it, please let me know... thanks

  11. being just a vague description i would guess maybe clogged injectors, or filter. If you've done any work maybe timing? Depends on what RPM's, speed of car it usually happens at, auto/stick, and miles on engine helps us help you..

  12. yoiu could go with the import lip and be original, thats for sure... But as experience has shown, you always get what you pay for. Do some investigating on what each part is made out of (e.g- polyurethane, fiberglass, etc...) compare it with similar products and then compare pricing. I think if you can get a quality 97 piece, it would be best. It would enhance the appeal of your car without actually having to go aftermarket and enableing a "riced out" feel. Then again its just a lip and if thats your cup of tea, then by all means... lip it away.

  13. make sure the seals on the distributer are good because that can lead to alternator damage or failure. As a 93 sc300 owner, im talking from pure experience. Also if the car is making any "weird" noises, have them checked out as they could lead to more costly repairs in the future. Good luck with the trip.

  14. I have a 1993 Lexus SC300. The speedometer needle light is not working and also the needle is not showing the correct speed. It moves very slowly and when I am doing 60mph it will show 20mph. The needle will not even move when the weather is cold.

I took the car to a local mechanic. He told me that the speedometer sensor needs to be changed. ($200)

I took the car to another mechanic for a second opinion. He told me that the entire instrument cluster needs to be changed. ($500).

Which one is true? Can I just change the speedometer sensor or should the entire instrument cluster be changed?

Thanks for any help in advance.

    hey bro...

i wouldnt do anything just yet... from what i know in past cars... (not sure about the lexus) is that if your speedo doesnt work its a cable that goes from the cluster to the tranny... maybe its broken, maybe its loose.... i dont know. What i do know is that it costs like 50$ and you get it all. If you go to a junk yard its even cheaper. Then again it was for an eclipse so i could be off or since its a lex i could be way off. Just giving you what i know

  15. iv noticed that while driving my tac with just drop off to 0 and never come back on or i just wont come on when i start the car........ i was wondering if yall had any suggestions to fix this......thanks

hello, i have a 93 sc300 and ive noticed that when i turn the car on sometimes the tach wont work. Ive never seen it stop working once it is though.. out of frustration i hit the dash really hard one day and found out if you pound on it a couple times...(where the cluster is) that made it work... on mine anyway. But then after a couple months of that, the needle fell off... ha ha ha....sorry, not funny. Good luck
