  1. So my 93 gs 300 is being goofy. My door locks are opening and closing on their own. I do have an aftermarket alarm with a remote that powers the door locks. I checked that and even took the battery out of the remote and the door locks are still occasionally flipping back and forth. Any ideas??
  2. Hi Dave, thanks for your link to others having a similar issue. My mechanic thought it might have been a blower motor as well but given the other odd stuff going on with it (clock and lighter sockets going out) he thought it might just be electrical. It was and I’m thankful I spent 40 bucks instead of 1000. Apparently the previous owner installed a high end Clifford alarm system and did a tacky install job. One of the power wires was tied into my fuse panel blower fan fuse with a pig tail that had one of those flat 2 prong connectors that wrap over the fuse. It came loose and pulled the fuse partially out with it. Who would do an instal like that? The very least they could do is splice it into an actual power wire with an inline fuse. That’s what’s going to happen. I mean all somebody had to do to deactivate my alarm was pull the wire from the fuse panel. Quite honestly I think the best theft prevention is to just put in a hidden kill rocker switch to the ignition wire in the car. The alarm itself is a good one though. I can leave my windows down in my car and if someone sticks an arm in the car the alarm will go off. The Lexus system will also activate my alarm and disable the fuel/ignition if someone tries to reach in and use the power lock switch to unlock the door.
  3. Update. The fan speed and routing display has quit entirely but the dash lights are working
  4. I have a 93 GS 300 with an intermittent heater issue. As shown in the attached video my entire display will quit sometimes and other times the heater fan alone will stop with all the lights still on. Of note is the lighter socket in the rear of my console will quit as we’ll. My ashtray light will stay on during either failure sequence. Has anybody had this issue and possibly a source of the problem and fix? It’s winter out and I need my heater 😞 thanks in advance IMG_2960.MOV
  5. Funny that we just talked about this. Now my heater fan shuts down intermittently. I did notice this on my stereo in the past but it was due to a bad alternator putting out low voltage. The funny thing is my stereo is working fine so I think it’s something else. The whole heater display shuts right off sometimes and then comes back on and sometimes the lights stay on and the fan stops for a few seconds. Gonna have to post about it and see if anybody else has encountered that.
  6. There was a service bulletin regarding the 2004-5 ES330 which may help you diagnose your troubles. One of the things mentioned was a faulty ground in the sensor wiring harness. Or a poor electrical connection due to what I’ve posted below about how the sensor interprets voltage. https://www.autocodes.com/pdfview.php?pdflink=https://www.autocodes.com/uploads/lexus/EG003-05.pdf&titulo=2004-2005 Lexus ES 330 Factory Service Bulletin OBDII Code P0031 Also the sensor element is made of platinum-coated zirconia and includes an integrated heating element. The zirconia element generates a small voltage when there is a large difference in the oxygen concentrations between the exhaust gas and outside air. The platinum coating amplifies this voltage generation. The air-fuel ratio sensor is more efficient when heated. When the exhaust gas temperature is low, the sensor cannot generate useful voltage signals without supplementary heating. The ECM regulates supplementary heating using a duty-cycle approach to adjust the average current in the sensor heater element. If the heater current is outside the normal range, the signal transmitted by the air-fuel ratio sensor becomes inaccurate. As a result, the ECM is unable to regulate the air-fuel ratio properly. When the current in the air-fuel ratio sensor heater is outside the normal operating range, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the sensor heater and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
  7. When I first bought my Lexus I wanted to dealer service it but found every single service they could provide me WAY too high in price. I would hate to own a Bugatti Veryon but that’s in a league of its own. Apparently to service that car properly every year you need 200k in the bank. The prices I’ve heard from Lexus service are not quite that bad but astronomical in comparison to any North American manufacturer. I guess I should get back on topic. Lol. No lubricant lasts a lifetime. All oils and lubricants will break down over time. What’s more concerning is if there is any wear at all that gets thrown around with your lubricant and WILL cause damage even to some degree. I change my tranny and rear diff lube every 200K
  8. I have a 93 gs300 and everything still works ! ! ! except the drivers window. The motor purrs but it doesn’t go up and down. Haha. other than that this car now has 400K on it and you can still eat off the engine. It still runs so smooth that you could put a cup of water on the cover and would hardly see a ripple. I’m not sure about the first 10 years of the cars maintenance but I have all the records of every little thing repaired or replaced on it including oil changes since 2003. Since I’ve owned the car I’ve had to replace all 4 calipers and rotors, the front upper control arms, lower ball joints, alternator, battery, ac compressor, water pump, and 3 timing belts @ every 100k. I have yet to do the rear upper control arms. The upper ball joints are starting to show a little bit of wear.
  9. This is the high beam light bulb I want to try. If anybody has tried or compared it to the regular bulb.. what is it like. Any heat or wiring issues.
  10. I used crest toothpaste and a buffer and it works just as pictured.
  11. Would like to know which are the best headlights to use for my 93 GS 300 that will give me optimal distance lighting for high beam and good road lighting for low beam. I was considering using hella 100w clear for my high beams but was told the wattage might overheat my oem wiring harness and the bulb may produce too much heat for the lens. Has anybody used them and is there any truth to this. What would I need to upgrade my harness with if I need to?
  12. The problem I’m having right now is the rear suspension parts. Some are discontinued and unavailable. I did find a place in Calgary though that has 2 93 gs and 2 aristos. The lexus have less than 150k on them. He told me I could have the steering rack and all the rear end parts less the differential for 750 bucks.
  13. I live in northern BC. Getting to the border is a bit of a run for me. 6 hrs just to the Vancouver border. Thanks for the link though. I will look into it. I called Lexus the other day looking for a steering rack, 2 upper control arms and a lower passenger control arm. They quoted me 6100 bucks from the parts department. I don’t know if he built the labour into the price but that was a little much. I can get moog control arms for 140 a piece. Lol
  14. Hi all, I’m Steve and new here. I own a 93 Lexus GS300. I’ve always wanted a Lexus. The 2JZ motor has always impressed me for its reliability and this car stock still handles, rides and performs like a dream even with 360k on the clock. You can eat off the engine it’s still that clean. Aside of lube maintenance the car has had its fair share of parts updates upper and lower control arms all the way around, right rear hub and bearing, air compressor, alternator, water pump etc the usual 100,000 mile maintenance my Nakamichi stereo stops working when it’s wet out. I think there is a short in the amp. I’m getting this wop wop wop helicopter sound, like it’s clipping I’ve been looking for spare parts and new parts for my car and I am finding it difficult to source them. I will need some assistance there. There seems to be lots of 1st gen GS300’s in the states but only a few in Canada. The compression in my engine is still top notch across the board and I’m considering a 60mm turbo to hopefully get me in around 500hp and a 6 speed tranny automatic is fine I understand that none of the internals have to be changed to upgrade with a turbo but I think I will upg Dr are a few things if I do get it put in. Well cheers to you all. If you know of some good parts sources please let me know. I currently use rockauto.com
