  1. I posed the same question not too long ago. Of the three cars I've owned before my IS, I've always used Engine Bright by Gunk. With that stuff, you simply cut the engine off and wait until it's cool, hose it down, spray on the Engine Bright, let it sit for a few minutes, hose it off, and then let the engine dry. It's always worked great without any problems. But I've also never had a car that had as much electronics under the hood than the IS. I'm thinking about having my IS engine steam cleaned somewhere instead.
  2. I've always used a couple cans of Engine Bright by Gunk and a waterhose but is there a better way to clean the engine? Or maybe somewhere that does this or steam cleans it? Thanks guys!
  3. Thx Lexusfreak. That's what I need to know.
  4. Hey guys. Looking thru my IS300 manual, it says to use Type IV automatic transmission fluid. I was going to be changing it out soon (or have it changed out by someone else) and wanted to put in Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Here's the link... http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorO...thetic_ATF.aspx But it doesn't say on their website, or on the bottle, anything about being Type IV (whatever that is). Does anyone know if this stuff will work okay? Thanks again for the help!
  5. Finally, put my '92 Honda Accord aside and bought a 2001 IS300. On a funny sidenote, the Accord died on my way to the credit union to get the loan check and had to have a friend come pick me up. Seems the oil pump in the accord died...ha. Talk about timing. Anyway, I noticed the driver's side foglight bulb is burned out on the IS. Anyone know what the part number for a replacement bulb is and how I might go about changing it out? Thx guys
  6. I'm looking at buying a couple of jetskis with a double trailer and was wondering if trying to pull something like that with an IS300 would be a bad idea. Don't know what the collective weight would be though. Watcha think?
  7. Good info to have...thx guys. Sounds like the price is in line with what one would expect. Still not sure about the price as it relates to the age of the vehicle though. I'm not one who trades cars every year or two which means I'll probably have this vehicle for a while and it's already 4 years old. Hmmm, guess I'll have to think about this some more.
  8. Greetings everyone. I found this forum doing a Google search and have been browsing thru all the info the past day or two. It looks like this is an excellent source for help so maybe someone can help me out with a problem. I'm gearing up to buy an IS300 here in the next month or two. At first I was only considering a 2002 or 2003 model but a buddy here at work made me an interesting offer. He has a 2001 that he's been leasing for the past four years and the lease is up at the end of June. He can then 1) turn the car in and be done with it or 2) pay the balance and own it. He just bought an Infiniti FX45 last week so the IS was going back until he found out I was looking at them. He's offered to just let me have the car for the outstanding balance which is right at $18,500. Here's the scoop on the car... - 2001 model IS300 - Approx 44K miles - Has all the options except rear spoiler and heated seats - Needs brake pads but otherwise is in excellent condition My main issue is paying $18,500 for a car that's four years old...not sure how I feel about that. But what do you guys think? Sound like a good deal? Thanks for the help!
