Car Won't Start - Shift To "p" When Starting

I think it is actually some problem with the transmission. I have a 2007 RX400h that has been doing the same thing. Replacing the 12V battery did nothing to fix the problem. Twice now, putting the car in neutral and pushing it a few inches, then going back and putting the car in P let it start. Has anyone else noticed that rolling the car a little solves this issue? Any idea what could be the bigger issue?
