  1. i did it! last night i did the wire cut and bypass on my '02 LX470. it took all of 20 minutes and 15 was spent on popping out the wood trim panel. i'd have to say that it made me nervious to cut wires on multi$$$ nav. but now that it works, it is absolutely fantastic. i should have done this when i first got the car. D.J. .
  2. i just got the bypass done last night on my '02 LX. i should have done this on the day i got this car. the written instruction for bypass wiring was very clear. i did not use e-bay device. and i'm glad i didn't. it was simple two wire cut and grounding one. took me all of 20 minutes. and 15 minutes out of that was spent on removing the wood trim panels. :) too easy. way too easy. D.J. .
  3. thanx for the info. i'm also gonna try calling few different dealerships across the country. if i'm not wrong, i think i can do the purchase via phone (giving VIN and credit card number). it wouldn't matter where i buy this thing. thanx again for your help. now if someone can help me with my Navigation questions........ D.J. .
  4. Ken: did you ever find any answers to your questions? i'm in a similar situation. D.J. .
  5. drb: what version of nav dvd are you using?? i have '02 LX470 and i just got myself v.04.1. it ain't working for me. help
  6. I have '02 LX470. my warranty's almost over and the dealer quoted me $1975.00 for additional 2yr/50,000 (on top of my default 4yr/50,000) or $2525.00 for 3yr/50,000. bumper to bumper. i don't want to deal with aftermarket warrantys and reimbursement and what not. straight Lexus warranty's simple enough for me. is this price negotiable or would i find better deal if i call around? D.J. .
  7. here's what i gathered so far. and this applies only to '02 models. according to the dealership, the latest nave update is 2004.1 revision (also known as v.04.1) My LX470 still has the original from '02 so the data is quite outdated. my dealership wanted to charge me an arm, a leg and my pinky toe for this. there's no way i'm gonna pay them this. i also found that there is v.04.2 (2004.2 version, even better) but that one will not work on ours. that one is for Lexus only. ??? you might say. but pre-04 LX and all RXs are considered as Toyota when it comes to NAV system. we are in entirely seperate generation of nav system and will not work with DVDs that says "Lexus" by itself (i.e. the latest 4.2) if you carefully look at v.04.1 and older DVDs it says "Lexux and Toyota" I was told that that is the only ones that'll work on our models (pre '04 LX and all RX) also, there was a recall for v.04.1. that's what you were reading about. those recalled DVDs might give us some trouble. I was able to order (on e-bay) a post-recall v.04.1 yesterday. i'll let you know how i make out of it. D.J. . Hi Madkow70, I also have a 2002 LX470. I researched the database update situation too. There was an update made as of November 2004. I'm not aware of anything new since then, but I don't know for sure. I've been trying to find an inexpensive way to upgrade. My Lexus dealer wants $675 for the update. Too expensive in my books. I've read on this forum of others that updated it themselves. Some were successful and others were not. I get a little nervous about this. If you find anything that works. Please advise me. Thanks, Victor ←
  8. I live about three miles from Pohanka Lexus. we've been looking for a private Lexus specialist around here. we can use info as well if someone has any place to suggest. D.J. .
  9. i searched through the forum and never got a definitive answer. i have a '02 lx470. what version nav s/w dvd work with this vehicle? i saw some 4.x avalabe online. woudl those work with mine? HELP!!!
  10. Would you know any answers to Nav DVD version question? what year is your LX?
  11. Help. I just purchased a CPO '02 LX470. I do have a few questions. 1. I understand that there is a simple wire-mod for DVD-in-motion. Would that fix the Nav-destination-input-in-motion as well? If not, are there anyway to make that work? 2. what is the latest Nav DVD available? I see few different versions available on e-bay and I'm not sure if there'll be any compatibility issues with '02 LX470. Is it safe to buy a 4.1? 3. to upgrade the NAV data, is it simple as switching out the Nav DVD and letting it do the update? i'm sure that i'll have tons more questions as I go along. :) thank you very much in advance for your help. D.J. .
