  1. I have been having this problem for over a month now. My sub channel does not work, but every other channel in the car works 100% and has lots of power still. It is NOT a blown speaker. I have tried 3 different subs on this channel and it still does not work even remotely. I took out the back seats and back dash when I installed the rear suspension and checked that the wiring was all in check. Still does not work. NOT a blown speaker. What I do not know is whether or not the system's amplifier (the one located on the floor under the passenger seat) is JUST for the sub channel, or for ALL channels. If it is just a sub amp, then I think I found the problem. But, if it is an amp for the whole system (meaning the head unit makes no juice itself), then I have no idea what the heck is going on. Some one please help!! Thank you all in advance. P.S. It is NOT a blown speaker!
  2. I located an intake manifold from an Avalon, which will fit on my ES300. I was thinking of grinding and polishing the inside of it or have it professionally done. Then swapping it with mine so I won't be stuck without a car during the process. The manifold is $80. No idea yet how much it would cost to have it done or if I could do it myself. Would it be worth it? Would I get more power? Would I lose low end? Thanks very much.
  3. How old is old? Would a 1997 ES with 75k be considered likely to have hidden leaks? Dead honestly, I do not know when the PCV has been changed last, as I had it for only 2 years. But, I did have a 60k tune up this past October. I use real oil now, but would like to switch to synthetic soon so I can keep my girl running for a long time. Plus I drive hard and I do not want to wear out a Lexus engine and be forced to drive an 89 Hyundai or something. Thanks.
  4. I think it will look cool on the 02+ ES. I was wondering if the same time of spoiler would look good on a 97-01 ES. I know from pics on LOC, this type of spoiler looks mean on a 92-96 ES. Look at skperformance's pics. I was considering it as a mod but unsure if it will look good on mine particularly.
  5. A V6 with 150K will definately have bad compression. Get forged pistons and the whole bit and do the mods I mentioned before on this topic. I think the 92 ES has a mostly iron block- I might be wrong. Also, go to http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=15247&hl= It was a topic I started about making a ram air intake. It is cheap. Some people were disagreeing with me about it thinking it was the same as what comes stock on certain cars, but the air does not come in so directly stock even with a bfi. I learned though, that you NEED exhaust also for this to be really effective for you. Trust me, it is extremely effective especially at high speeds. P.S. Putting it in L and shifting for yourself does'nt make it accelerate quicker. It just feels that way. When you try to shift up right before redline, there is a delay. It shifts perfectly everytime if you just leave it in D. I have done plenty of tests with my Beltronics accelerometer. 0-60 and 1/4 mile are faster by leaving it in D. Plus, if you leave it in lower gears too often, ur tranny fluid will get really hot-not good.
  6. Kdawg, how many miles do you have on there? With very high mileage, I would'nt go nuts on it, as it will make that old engine work extra hard. But, you could simply do intake and exhaust. Ignition wires are good too. And also have the Y-pipe rerouted by a custom shop for more power. If you peek under the car at your Y-pipe, you can see that both of the exhaust manifold collectors flow into eachother, cancelling eachother's flow out, taking away some good horsepower. Have it made so both collectors from the exhaust manifold face the same way into the exhaust pipe.I am glad to see some one hooking up an ES. Hope this helps.
  7. I appreciate the offer. But, my speakers are not blown. I even have a new sub I want to put in. But, no sound comes from that channel-no matter what speaker. I don't know if it could be the amp or wires or a fuse or hyposplendificulator--haha I have no clue about this stuff. If it is the amp (stock pioneer) I can just get it on Ebay for cheap, but if it is something else, I would like to take care of it. Thanks for all the input.
  8. Helps very much. Was all I needed. You are the man. Thanks very much!
  9. I know well enough to turn the radio off before i turn the car off so it wont blast when i start it. Also, I tried other speakers-none of which are blown. It must be something else. I can't live like this without bass.
  10. Ok, in the FAQ it says that some Camry and ES parts are interchangeable-including suspension. I knew this even before. But, I came across these Tein S Tech springs on ebay which are for the 1999-2003 Solara V6. I had no doubt, assuming that they would fit my 97 ES, but I emailed the seller to verify(a business not just a random person) and he said he does not know if they will fit. Also, by the same seller, Tokico blue struts are listed as fitting the ES and the Camry and the Solara. So why would he not list the springs as fitting the ES too? I do not want to buy them and then discover they won't work. It happened to me when I bought the control module for "Toyota 6 cylinders" and it would not work on an ES 300. I am just trying to VERIFY. Thank you. :D
  11. I have a similar problem. My rear sub channel in my 97 ES does not work. It started a few weeks ago when I cut away the wires to the 8" stock sub to switch with a 12" boxed Audiobahn. It worked for a while when I tested it by just twisting the connections together, but after that, neither speaker connected to those wires has worked. All other speakers in the car work how they always have. And I thought that the amp went to more than just that one back sub. I pulled out the full back seat and rear dash to see if i maybe unclipped a connection, but it was all good. Maybe I blew a fuse? I need some input, because I know some of you out there have some crazy knowledge on this stuff. I will appreciate it. Thanks.
  12. What year did all Lexus's start having this feature?
  13. I have a 1997 ES 300. I have that same problem once in a while. It only does it for a few seconds once in a while. The buzzing is the same volume no matter how loud the stereo volume is and it comes from the radio and cd. I think it might be that the grounding wires are old. not sure though
  14. should not be too big. they even have t5 turbo in some volvo 2.5 liter inline 5 cylinder engines. and it depends on how much boost u run. if u run 7 pounds of boost it shouldnt be too much power. i have heard of people turboing ur same engine to over 1,000 hp. strong engine block and a t5 should still spool up pretty quickly
  15. Could possibly be the throttle tubes came disconnected and is just held flush to eachother. Check that and make sure of it. Stick em in and then tighten the bolts. It happened to me in my ES 300.
  16. Mostly just the tail lights. With the 02-04 model it looks better in black and maroon. I have seen them in silver also and darker is better. But with the new 05 tail lights I saw one in silver and I was like dam I like the new tail lights. Kinda BMWish from the profile. And I saw one also in black shortly after and it just did not look right. The rear end of the 05 looks like a different car to me than the 04 and different cars look better in different colors. I pay good attention to detail. But, it is still an opinion-not a fact. Peace.
  17. To really save money, go to auto zone and buy the best brake pads they have which are carbon metallic and asbestos free. Just tell them your make and model. Then install them yourself. Take off your tire. The old pads literally pull right out. But worn pads are thin so the new thicker pads wont fit. So, you have to loosen the nut or screw on the caliper slightlyto relieve pressure of the system and get pliers to seperate the caliper from the rotor so you can slip the new pads back in. Brake fluid might squirt out when you do this so be careful and refill it afterwards. Then retighten the screw with 75% of your might. Takes 15 minutes tops per tire as a beginner. Anyone feel free to comment on this if I explained something wrong.
  18. If he is a family member, then you can surely verify his personality/driving style. But, you still may not know how much HE knows about cars and maintaining them properly. Get his papers and look at them. And eventhough he's your relative, make him go lower on the price. Say you found other ones with less mileage for less money, etc. Always bargain, but don't let it ruin the relationship you have as family. I bought my 1997 ES 300 from my dad's friend about 2 years ago with a little over 42,000 miles. Has leather, stereo, moonroof etc. Only missing heated seats and the tunable suspension. Guess how much I bought it for? $7,000 and under $9,000 total with tax and registration etc. That is because the dealer offered him not much more to trade in so hed rather give it to a friend for less and say F you to the dealers for trying to make lots of money from his car. Compare apples to oranges. Trade in value is lower than private owner value, but you can tell him that if he tried to sell it at the dealer, they would offer him only $9,000 plus you're related, so he should sell it to you for $8,000-$8,500. I seriously hope this advice is useful to you. I really want to help you, especially in getting a Lexus. But, do not make it seem like such a huge sacrifice for him to be giving you such a good price, because then there might be some sort of resentment for you. Say how broke you are-it helps. God bless.
  19. For luxury, low outside noise, expensive feel go with the ES 330. In my honest opinion, with no offense to ES 330 owners, I would go with the Camry SE V6 for looks. Same powerful engine from both cars. But the SE has a more aggressive look(still maintaining family sedan look). The ES 330's side window line reminds me of the Ford Taurus design they started in 1996. Both the new Camry and ES have a kind of "top heavy" look but I think more so in the ES. The problem can be fixed with 18" rims and a lower suspension, and a spoiler would look good too for both cars. The interior is where the ES is nicer. better leather and overall quality inside, quieter and has wood trim. The SE has a brushed aluminum trim inside. Its sportier looking, but nice too. I would debadge the toyota "T" symbol outside the car, though because it is ugly looking. Maybe put a TRD emblem instead. Toyoya should change that ugly symbol. This is all my opinion of course. How old are you? If you are under 30 and single go with the 3.3 liter V6 Toyota Camry SE in black white or silver. Otherwise, the sophisticated 3.3 liter V6 ES 330 is for you in anything but dark colors with the new 05 lights etc. But, if getting an 04 ES get a dark color like maroon or black. Hope my opinions may help you in either case to make the cool decision. B)
  20. Yeah civics do handle better. I'll give em that. They weigh hardly anything. I do not intend on doing any serious racing. Just street racing. It feels so good to pull away from some guy's little sport coupe with my 4 door grocery getter. On the highway, on some turns-they may not be that sharp but doing 120+ on them makes the car with no handling mods really scary and i have to let off the gas a bit. Recently I put the IS 300 rims and pirelli zero nero 215 45 17 tires. It does a suprising amount of fixing the problem-I guess because of stiffer and shorter sidewalls, so I guess with a stiffer lower suspension and a front strut bar, I would be satisfied. Yeah 1,000 bucks for carbon fiber is nuts. If I hit the lotto, I might still do it though. Yeah, I am crazy, but that makes me normal. :D
  21. Nopers, not stock. Intake, exhaust, ignition wires. Saving up for headers. Control module came in but I am having difficulties installing it because I can't find a good hole through the firewall. I also take out the spare tire, etc. on certain nights. I guess I am a bit too nuts about my car, but that is just the guy I am.
  22. Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I guess I should pay attention to rules a bit more often. Glad you told me though. Still out of curiosity, who thinks it would be cool? I know I do have a crazy mind-I might be alone on this. Ehh, just wondering. Peace.
  23. To my knowledge, not a single aftermarket hood exists for any year Lexus ES. I have heard of hoods for civics, etc., and even minivans! I, for one (20 yr old male) like the luxury and feeling of the ES300. I also like that its a 4 door sedan family car with sleeper potential. Doing all sorts of stuff to make it go faster like turbo, intake, exhaust, etc. make the car louder and that can limit what some people would want to do to a Lexus. But, I also like to drive fast and race people (20 yr old male). It is just fun. I think a carbon fiber hood and trunk would be cool. Take off over 100 pounds. Plus, I think it is just cool-I would paint it to match the car though to look stock. It would make the car a bit quicker, handle better, and brake better. Plus, it is another mod to add to your list. I emailed a few people and I ended up reaching Dan at modifiedinc.com, who deals with producing carbon fiber products and stuff like that. He enthusiastically said he will make it for the 1997 ES if there is demand. I did not ask to make it for other years, but whoever is possibly interested in this let me know and I'll tell him to make it for other years. We can even do a group buy to keep it cheap. Let me know what you all think.
  24. Here is the link for the headers: http://www.jpperformancellc.com/camsolheaders.html I swear, I think everytime I look at this dam website waiting for the day when I get mine, the price goes up each time. Today is November 24, 2004 and the price is $1,599 just to keep track. Let me know if anyone has these things yet and how they are.
