  1. I've only have my new '08 ES350 for a few weeks. The 1st time I filled the tank, a msg on the dash showed the "miles remaining for this tank".

I just filled up again and now the Msg on the dash says "Average MPG for this Tank".

I did not change anything that I'm aware of, so how did this change?

:You must have inadvertently hit the toggle switch that changes the display. It's easy to do.

WOW, that was easy, I feel like a dummy, thanks

  3. Can anyone explain how to change the NAV DVD on my 2009 ES 350. The manual says to slide the area that says Lexus up, but it doesn't move. Am I missing something. Thanks, in advance

It’s a little tricky but it does slide up. Use your fingernails or some other sharp object.

  4. if you could have lexus change/add one thing to your es what would it be??

for me, it is a no-brainer, AWD..was the toughest thing for me to compromise on when buying the car, and after last winter, wow, felt even stronger about it

    other thoughts?

Did you look at the GS with AWD?

  5. All,

I recently purchased a CPO(certifed pre-owned) 2008 Lexus ES 350 that has 24000 miles on it june 2011. It now has 27000 miles on it and the Oil change warning keeps coming up every time I start the car. Should I get the oil change done and use up my first free service ? It was my understanding when I bought the car that the car is fully inspected under the CPO process and the necessary services including oil change are done before selling the car. The dealer says I should use my free service right now and fix the issue asap. I am confused since oil changes are recommended every 5000 miles and I should be doing my oil change at 29k miles. Is there a chance that the dealer did not change oil during the Certified pre-owned inspection process ? Any suggestions on what to do next ?

Of course it's possible. Have you tried to see the service records when the car was "certified" at 24K?

  6. I have been driving my 2010 Lexus ES350 for 1.5 years and I still don't know how to turn on the cabin light while driving (or while I am stopped at the traffic light). Most non-luxury cars have a light on the ceiling of the car right about the middle of the roof which can be manually turned on by pushing a lever switch. There is no such light in the ES350. How do I illuminate the back seat area while I am driving (assuming there are no back seat passengers) or when I am stopped at the traffic light?

My ES350 has a sunroof so there's no dome light but I dont know if other 350s without sunroofs have dome lights. Mine has two lights under the dash that light up the front floor area and two lights on the bottom of the rear doors for the back floor area.

The only way I can get any of those lights to come on it to unlock the car with the remote or open the doors.

  7. HID headlamps?

Sounds like a failing HID bulb, thats exactly what happened when one went bad in my old '03 ES. Eventually it will stop working altogether.

I recommend replacing both bulbs instead of just one.

    They are not HID lamps.

Bulbs typically dont fail intermittently. I suspect it's caused by that "adapter" that plugs in behind the bulb.

  8. On my 2007 ES350 the left front headlight only works some of the time, other times it's out. If I turn the lights off manually, then turn them back on the light comes back on. Sometimes its off and sometimes it work fine. Anyone else have this issue?

Check the adapter that goes in between the head lamp and the plug to the lamp. They tend to burn out or become corroded.

  9. I just traded in my '97 ES300 for an "08 ES350.

I can't get the windows to operate unless the engine is running. The owner's manual says that the "ENGINE START STOP" switch must be in the "ignition on" mode, but does not have to have the engine running.

Any ideas on this.....am I doing something wrong?

With your foot off of the brake, press the start button twice and they should work.

If I hit the START button with my foot on the break the engine starts.

As mentioned, have your foot off of the brake pedal when pressing the start button twice.

Oops....i miss read you. My bad.

    thanks

  10. In several places, there has been an ongoing debate about what octane we should be using in our ES350's. Mine is a 2008 ES350 ultra. I decided to look at the engine specs for my ES350 and compare them to the same year Camry engine specs.

My owners manual says that my ES350 should use 91 octane gasoline. But, the comparable Camry model with what seems to be the same engine says that they can use 87 octane gasoline. So here is my research:

    Camry:

    2011 Technical Specs

    Standard Engine 3.5L V6

    Standard Transmission 6 Speed Automatic

    Cylinders 6

    Horsepower @RPM 268@6200

    Fuel Economy Cty/Hwy 19/27

    Combined Fuel Economy 22

    EPA Class Mid-Size

    Number of Valves 24

    Torque @RPM N/A

Fuel Type System Gas Engine / Sequential Electronic Fuel Injected,

Sequential Port Fuel Injected Sequential, Multi-Port Fuel Injected

    Turbo (Yes/No) No

    Overdrive Transmission Yes

    Battery Output N/A

    Compression 10.8:1

    Displacement 3458/211

    Bore X Stroke 3.70x3.27

    5-speed ECT-i automatic transmission w/OD

    Type: 6-speed automatic

    Ratios: 3.30, 1.90, 1.42, 1.00, 0.71, 0.61

    Final Drive: 3.69

    ES350:

    2008 Technical specs

    Standard Engine 3.5L V6

    Standard Transmission 6 Speed Automatic

    Cylinders 6

    Horsepower @RPM 272@6200

    Fuel Economy Cty/Hwy 19/27

    Combined Fuel Economy 22

    EPA Class Mid-Size

    Number of Valves 24

    Torque @RPM N/A

    Displacement 3441/210

    Bore X Stroke 3.70x3.27

    6-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission

    w/intelligence (ECT-i)-inc: sequential-shift

    Type: 6-speed automatic

    Ratios: 3.30, 1.90, 1.42, 1.00, 0.71, 0.61

    Final Drive: 3.69

The only difference seems to be in the displacement calculations. Please note that the compression ratio is identical. I have always thought that a 10.something compression ratio would require high octane gasoline.

I have Not decided to switch to regular (87 octane) yet, but I am mixing 1/2 tank of 87 Octane with 1/2 tank of 93 octane (=90 octane).

What are your thiughts and/or comments?????

Your post is several months old and gas prices change almost daily but what does your price per gallon average out to with that half & half mix? And how does it compare to the price of middle grade gas?

  12. I have an '08 ES350. Anyone know if the NAVIGATION DVD U91 ver 9.1 (from a 2011 Lexus) will work in my 2008?

Beginning with the 2010'S, the NAV is hard drive based no DVD.

that’s interesting because I have found several vers 9.1 DVDs for sale on line.

  13. I have a 2008 ES350 that came without the navigation system.

I am interesting in getting the Lexus factory navigation. Please advise if you have one available for the ES350.

P.S. Dealers say this cannot be done, but I have read otherwise.

No doubt it can be done but at what cost. Start out by buying a wrecked '08 ES, making sure the dash is not damaged.

Then dismantle the dash on both cars. Be prepared to spend many many hours or many thousands OF $$$ if you pay someone to do it.

    GOOD LUCK......LOL

  14. I have taken it for service, (when it was not blowing cold) the coolant was slightly low. The typical scenario is when it's been turned off for a while, then restarted, the a/c blows cold again. In the past months it would go several days to a week or more and work fine, now it starts blowing warm, but not right away, just about every time we go anywhere.

Sometimes just before it starts blowing warm I hear a strange sound from under the dash. Hard to describe but I think it is the sound of an air controlled damper or butterfly. This sound does not always occur, but when it does it always starts blowing warm. Once it starts blowing warm it does so for the rest of the trip.

I'm trying to give as much info as possible....and suggestions?

  15. I have a '97 ES300 with an intermittent a/c problem. After 15 to 30 mins of driving, (sometimes longer) the a/c gradually starts blowing warmer.

I had the coolant charged but that didn't help. After the car has been off for several hours and re started, the a/c works normally.

I suspect it's in the control unit that mixes the warm & cold air.

    Any help or suggestions?
