I get to add my 2000 Lexus RX300 (165k miles)to this blog list. Transmission starting acting up this weekend, with "clanking" noises. Today it wouldn't go into "reverse". Local Toyota dealership wants $5200 to replace it. A transmission chain wants $3500 to rebuild it. The delear said "they never see Lexus' in there for transmission problems", but the mechanic at the transmission shop said he works on about 3 a month (shop is in an afluent part of town). Long-story short, I'm probably going to buy the 3-year extended warranty for $400 after reading several complaints. Thank God, though, I didn't get stranded and I can afford to pay the bill.
