  1. Will an OBD2 work on a "92? I thought it needs an OBD1
  2. I have a beautiful "92 SC400 with 100k mi and all of a sudden it started running rough and very week without throwing any codes. I took a shot for under 50 dolllars and replaced the mass air flow sensor and got no change. I also jumped the contacts in the diagnostic port and it still showed no codes. I have an appointment at my local garage to have them look at it but I'd really rather not and am tempted to bring it to Lexus........(you get it right?) PLEASE SEND ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS
  3. Hey, I have the same car, with just about the same miles. After the same issues with the lights a friend told me to try and change the fuel filter, after reading the trouble codes and had it showing a 2 and a 5 (I think) it was saying low fuel to air ratio. Turned out to be just that, the filter was clogged causing the error code. Try it, its only 20 bucks and you probably need it anyway. Also, I failed NJ inspection cause of c02 emmisions and tried this stuff called "gauranteed to pass".......10 bucks, and I'll tell you, my car hasn't ran like this since it had 50K miles, and it passed inspection too! Good Luck
  4. WOW Graham, you're a info machine!! I wish we lived closer, I'd be knocking on your door daily. I'll give it a try and hope to get it done without having to buy new shoes. Thanks again, you're a pal! SAL
  5. Duh,,,,,,,,,Great thinking Graham!!! What a dope I am!! Without the info, you'll need esp to help. OK, lets do this right. I have a '93 sc400 with 225,000 miles, timing belt changed at 135,000 miles and probably due to change again. I've decided to try (again) this stuff I saw in an autoparts store called "gauranteed to pass", it worked before after 2 applications, but I would have liked to actually fix the issue, however, I found out the cats will cost $1600.00 without the labor and thats not the problem for sure. I also heard o2 sensors, mass air flow sensor, also quite costly, and again, not for sure the issue. The problem is, I'm not sure how much longer the car will last, I don't want to put a fortune into it and have the car drop dead after I do. Thanks for waking me up, any and all advise is greatly appreciated. Sal
  6. Hey All, I just failed NJ inspection due to high levels of co. Its not co2 it just says CO% The acceptable level is 1.25 and I registered a 2.25.
  7. Hey All, I just failed N.J. inspection for an emergency brake failure, does anybody know how to adjust it? And if so, what would you say the difficulty level is. Thanks in advance!
  8. ANYBODY HEARD OF THE PS PUMP SELINOID SCREEN DOWN NEAR THE RACK BY THE STEERING KNUCKLE? I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A SCREEN THAT NEEDS CLEANING TO GET THAT SMOOTH AS SILK FEELING BACK IN THE WHEEL, THEY SAY IT WILL GIVE YOU THAT REAL HEAVY FEELING WHEN CLOGGED, I DONT HATE THAT NEW FEEL BUT I THINK A CLOGGED SCREEN CAN CREATE BACK PRESSURE, THEN A POSSIBLE LEAK, THEN AN ALTERNATOR, AND ON & ON
  9. HI ALL, AS STATED I CAN'T FIND THE SELINOID SCREEN THAT IS NEAR THE STEERING KNUCKLE SOMEWHERE ON OR NEAR THE RACK. I READ IN OTHER FORUMS THERE IS A SCREEN FILTER DOWN ON THE RACK. ANYBODY HEARD OF IT???
  10. You're kidding right? You don't pimp a Lexus! You drive it! Buy a Chevy and pimp that. What did you have in mind? Foxtails? Maybe a long antenna? C'mon be real, let your Lexus be a Lexus!
  11. On second thought, I think I'll re-build my pump and sell it.
  12. I bought a re-built on e-bay, but now knowing what I know, I would have done the same thing as you, rebuild it yourself. I hooked up a few really good sites on the procedures and found it to be, well, lets say not impossible to do! The"heavy feeling" in the steering wheel is a good description, I found out there is a screen in rack, that when cleaned is said to clean that up. I just don't know where it is, but I'll find it & let you know!
  13. Has anyone experienced this? With a new power steering pump installed, I now find the steering in my '93 SC400 different, um, tighter or harder to turn than the old leaky pump. Or is it I'm just getting used to driving my LS400 while the coupe was down? P.S. I bled the system 3 times already.
  14. I have a 93 SC400 with a stuck front passenger seat. It seems to have 2 seperate motors 'cause it starts to move only on the left side while the right side seems stuck, I looked it the track and checked for the incredibly obvious but didn't see much, any suggestions????
  15. Has anyone changed an alternator? Mine just went and looks like it is buried, also many manuals suggest changing the voltage regulator also. Any tips? Is it easier than it looks and what about aftermarket equipment? I'll take any suggestions you may have. Thanks!!!! OOps I forgot to tell you its a 93 sc400
