  1. I still need to confirm this with a few more tanks of gas but I think my 2002 LX is getting 18.1 MPG using premium vs. 16.2 MPG using middle-of-the-road 89 octane gasoline. I need to compare some more, but it seems to pencil out. If this is true, I can get an additional 19 miles for every 10 gallons of gas for only an additional one dollar in Seattle/Tacoma premium prices. Seems like it would be cheaper to go high octane in the long run as the additional miles outweighs the extra cost for premium. The truck probably runs better too?? Has anybody else run the numbers?
  2. I think you're right. I've been through the manuals and have worked through every function on the unit and don't see it anywhere. I guess I'm a little anal about gas mileage. More for just informational purposes. I like to track my MPG between every tank. It's always a challenge to see how many MPG I can get from my big beautiful black monster-mobile B) .
  3. Hi, I just purchased an extended warranty from 1SourceAutoWarranty.com and in fact just got off with the phone with them a few minutes ago because I'm looking to buy a second warranty for my wife's Toyota Sienna. I bought mine earlier this month for the 2002 LX470 I bought with 54,000 miles. I got the Diamond package which is bumper to bumper coverage up to 100,000 miles with a $0 deductable. I paid $1,889 and feel like it's a good deal. I did a lot of research and comparison and feel these guys are the best. They're insured and reinsured so I feel pretty safe with them. They gave me the best price around and even cover the GPS navigation unit which is the only warranty company that does. I haven't had any experience with claims yet (knock on wood) but it seems like with their background it shouldn't be a problem. These guys were also the only ones that didn't give me a high pressure sales pitch. The guy I dealt with was pretty good. His name is Robert Frye and his number is (877) 663-7148. I'm not a salesman or affiliated with these guys in any way except as customer like you, so please don't think I'm trying to sell you, but they're certainly worth considering. If you do call, tell him Victor from Seattle Washington sent you. Good luck on whatever you end up with. :) Victor
  4. I'm no expert in the area. I just purchased a 2002 LX470, but I think you're playing with fire here. This vehicle is like a fine tuned instrument. Start messing with it and I'll bet you'll wish you hadn't in the long run. It just seems like you're messing with the balance of the vehicle which may be dangerous and would probably devalue it as well. But again I'm not an expert in the field. Although I have to admit the idea does intrigue me somewhat. I don't do a lot of offroading, but I was offroad last week up in the Cascade mountains. I used the suspension lift and it performed just fine. I thought it might lift a little higher however. I guess there's a setting which can get you extra high but I think you have to shift the transfer case into "L" to do it and I believe your speed must be kept fairly low. I just briefly read about it in one of the manuals. Anyway, good luck in whatever you do and keep us posted. I'd be curious to know how it goes. ;)
  5. I've learned that the LX470 needs to be in certain configurations sometimes for it's system's to work properly. The manual usually does a pretty good job of telling what you need to do, but it doesn't say much about the AVS. Is it safe to switch it on the fly while on the highway, or do you need to do it when it's parked or at low speeds? Thanks, Victor
  6. I just purchased a 2002 LX470 about a week and a half ago. It has the Nav unit and everything else available. The one thing I don't see is a mileage indicator for instant and average mileage. Is it just hidden somewhere or could it really be that it doesn't exist? It seems odd that the car can remind me when to buy my wife an anniversery present, but can't tell me how many miles to the gallon I'm getting. Anybody know the answer? Victor
  7. I wish I could have got to you sooner. I just bought the 100,000 bumper to bumper policy from a 3rd party with a $0 deductable for about $1,800. They even cover the Navigational unit, although that may not be a consideration in the 2000 model. I can still take it to the Lexus dealer for repair.
  8. Jarcara, You've just completely validated my decision to buy an extended warrranty. I also think you're correct in leaving some warranty left when you're ready to sell as I would think it would sell much quicker and at a better price. Haven't had any repair issues yet, but I know I've got up to 45,000 miles left for something to go wrong and inevitably something probably will. And as you have pointed out, nothing is cheap on a Lexus. Cheers!! ;)
  9. I took the plunge today and purchased an extended warranty. After doing a lot of exhaustive research and comparison, I purchased a plan from 1SourceAutoWarranty. I was able to get their Diamond package which is bumper to bumper coverage and includes wear and tear. It even covers the navigation unit which is the only outfit that does. A $0 deductible and I can take it to any Lexus Dealer or anyone else. It's got me covered up to 100,000 on the OD or 36 months. I paid $1,889 for it. They're insured and reinsured by an A class insurance company so I feel pretty safe about my policy. Leaving for vacation tomorrow and taking the new ride so I'm feeling safe and secure. :D
  10. Hi Everybody, I just purchased a 2002 LX470 with 54,000 miles on the odometer. I'd like to buy a warranty but it seems that there a number of companies out there. Does anyone have a suggestion or recommendation. I received one quote yesterday from an outfit that claims to have been around since 1988. Pretty much new car coverage for $2,248.00 for up to 100,000 miles on the OD with a $50 deductible per visit to the shop (including Lexus dealers). Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks, Victor
  11. Hi Everybody, It's great to be here. I just purchased my first Lexus yesterday. It's a 2002 LX470. I love this vehicle and when driving it feel like "I've arrived". It's awesome. I traded in my 1995 Toyota Landcruiser for this baby and wondered if there is any special way to keep the steering wheel in good shape. I know it may sound dumb and immaterial, but the wheel on my Landcruiser became worn through, and frankly unattractive. Granted, I didn't have a highly polished wood and leather steering wheel, but I want to make sure that this one stays as good as new. What should I watch out for and what should I do or is there anything that I need to do to maintain it? By the way, I'm very glad that someone had the presence of mind to form this club. I've got so many questions, that I feel like I'll be here a lot for the next few weeks. Thanks in advance to anyone that has suggestions. Victor
