  2. Hello, I was told recently by mechanic @ NTB, after usual multi-point inspection they do while replacing the oil, that I NEED NOT worry about ATF regardless of the color of the fluid since the brand used in my vehicle can go as far as 100K miles. Questions : 1) Is this statement true( I am sure he is right , just want a 2nd opinion)? I currently have 79000+ miles (almost close to 80000) ? Was he talking about Dexron III ATF or similar ATF? 2) Where/How to find out what brand of ATF do I have in my 2002 ES 300(bought in 2001) ? Finally, Do you RECOMMEND ATF flush or just change and at what interval? I have heard quite conflicting opinions on this topic mainly NOT recommending flush at all. What you think? Thanks Vic
  3. Hello, I just filled up the tank this evening with 15.111 gallons after range dropped from 31 to 14 and constant yellow light appeared at a range of 24. After fill-up, I noticed the range was 320. Just before filling up the tank, I checked the avg. and it was 23. I think ..... NOT Not bad for 2002 ES 200 with 79840 miles. Vic
  4. Hello All, I have 2002 ES300 with approximately 79000+ miles. Recently, I decided to replace the battery after battery test came out with 220 CCA @ NTB.This battery was installed in mid 2005 by local Lexus dealership and I thought it is the right time to change this battery. Do you think, I should have waited more? I decided to go with Interstate Battey MTP-24F (http://www.interstatebatteries.com/cs_estore/Search.aspx/Automotive-Truck/Lexus/ES300?dsNavigation=N~21-4294492895-4294492858-2147384742). Did I make a wise choice? and what price will you pay for a new battery? Also, I was told that this battery has 36 months free replacement (I do NOT see this listed any where in the battery specifications. How to verify?) and 85-month pro-rate (this is listed in the battery specifications). Can you explain what pro-rata means and how it works, please? Thanks Vic
  5. Hello Folks .................. I am NOT an Lexus expert but as per the following site (look at the following guide published by Gates, a manufacturer of timing belts. They include the replacement interval and whether you engine is an interference engine or not) and you can check/verify yourself, Lexus ES 300 2002 engine is NOT an Interference engine. http://www.gates.com/part_locator/index.cfm?location_id=3598 To verify your vehicle, go to "Interference Engine Issues" and select/click "Find Out Now" here - http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure...rchGatesPopular Thanks a LOT. Vic You mean "They will let you know that you need many other things replaced as well." Dealership service writers get paid commission. They will try to convince or scare you into fixng anything that they can to pad the service bill. I'm sure that $140 would be the belt only and I'd bet that they would want to charge full labor to include in the water pump even though it should only add about 1 hour to the job max. I wouldn't listen to the advice above in reference to pushing the change interval on the timing belt. You should be fine to the 90K recommended change interval, but don't push it to far beyond that. Your 2003 has an interference type engine so if the belt does break, expect to get your top end rebuilt for a significant amount of money.
