  1. Has anyone else had the following: The driver side low beam is out...checked the connections and find the 15a fuse under the hood blown. I replace it... as soon as power hits, it blows. I dont see any bare wires to short. Suggestions? Bad relay?
  2. I also have a 99 with similar miles and mileage. The mission at this stage is to maintain rather than lose mpg---mine slowly and steadily went to 12 at which point it was rough idling and just had the check engine lite kick on...I checked out this forum, disconnected the battery to reset the light and: 1) checked sp wires 2) new plugs 3) changed air filter 4) changed pcv valve 5) changed oil 6) cleaned the maf sensor 7) cleaned the tbi and iac 8) correct tire pressure 9) fuel system additive After, the mileage was restored and the rough idle and check engine light went away... plus the acceleration and performance improved. Collectively, these repairs made a world of difference and saved an expensive dealer visit... all are monitored regularly nowadays. Nick/Las Vegas
  3. hmmm... I have a Sirius in my RX300... I wanted everything to look bone stock but have quick and easy access...I have the puck looking antenna hidden amongst the luggage rack so it blends...the unit itself is mounted in the front of the TOP console drawer---at an angle...when the drawer is closed the interior looks completely stock...best of all, the Sirius is protected from spills (thank you lousy cup holder) etc...to view, the drawer only has to be partially open... if anyone wants pics, i'll take and email just let me know. "ciao"...dont here that one out here much...wild when you here a familiar word and realize its been years since you have heard it used in a conversation. course out here your immediate supervisor is a few years older than yourself, a vp in a global corp AND addresses you as "dude".
  4. It may be the tires compared are apples and oranges. I suspect the Michelins are softer rubber and should perform better. Being softer, they will also wear faster and puncture easier. The Goodyears should meet most peoples daily driving needs and last longer. I've had both brands and agree there is some ride/noise difference...for me it was marginal but opinions will vary... ride in both at the dealer and see what you think and whether or not it is worth the $. Or just pick the whichever looks best to you. =)
  5. Bry, you could check Buffalo Jim's shop near I-15 and Sahara. If you see a copy of "Mercury" (free) on the newstand, check out his ad AND column called "Nuts and Bolts"...I've learned all kinds of stuff from there. Good luck...if you cant find a copy or dont have time, email me and I will dig out and send his contact info. Nick
  6. My 99 Rx300 started doing that extremely loud so I replaced both belts with Dayco brand (worked the counter at parts store from high school through college and found Dayco and Gates to be acceptable in that order but everyone has their opinion/reasons). Less than a year later, the screeching returned. The noisy belt is the AC, so I turn off the Auto air control until the car has traveled about 1/2 mile and dont have endure the scornful looks from the row of supermodels that line up to see me off every day. =)
  7. No dark smoke that I am aware of... the problem may be resolved after cleaning the MAF...it definitely runs faster with no bogging down. The UK Lexus site noted the same symptoms as mine and even had pics of the ultra complicated (ok, not complicated) process. Whats a motorvac?
  8. Hi All, I have a 99 RX 300 with about 75k and have watched my miles per gallon drop over the past 2 years... right now, it registers 12.9 - 13.2 per gallon. There appears to be a smell of gas at the tailpipe, the vehicle bogs down under hard acceleration--then catches sometimes with a small backfire under the hood. Once in a while, it puts out a smoke cloud when starting up. I changed the plugs and belts about 5k back. Neither helped or added to the problem. Also, the oil is the wrong viscosity--is this a big problem? ANY help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Nick / Las Vegas
  9. I have a 99 RX300 with a Sirius set up. Over 2 years, I have received excellent service and performance from Sirius. Like SW, I mounted the unit inside the console at the front (can be viewed with the drawer only slightly opened) of the top drawer. The receiver is mounted under the drivers seat and the antenna is mounted at the rear of the luggage rack and blends in with the rack. From the interior the vehicle looks stock. My only improvement, which came out AFTER I purchased, would be having the unit that can be removed and taken to your home stereo. The real mystery to me was the need to include a remote control for the stereo. It made sense when my 11 year old daughter took one look and exclaimed "great, now I can control the radio from the back seat. Shortly thereafter, the remote vanished ;) Nick Las Vegas
