  1. hahaha it took me 2 1/2 hours have fun with that. ill be happy if it only taes 2 1/2 hrs; looks like alot of work
  2. i have 270k on my ls400; it sat in a garage for 4 yrs and i got it and have put 20k on it since then. it is starting to run rough i would like to do the plugs and wires. but cant find them; i removed the wire cover on the driver side and found no plugs; where are the plugs located and how r they changed?; i have a shop manual vol 1 and 2 but Dont see any cut and dry way to remove the wires or plugs
  3. while cleaning the throttle body i also found my egr valve ports caked with carbon; clean that out and the filter in the egr modulator
  4. my 1990 ls400 with 270K miles failed emissions again this yr; last yr I cleaned the egr valve and ports and throttle body; all were CAKED with carbon. still failed. just got a shop manual that says to check the charcol canister (where is it) and to open the egr modulator and blow out the charcoal filter in it; how do i get the modulator open as much carbon that was in the ports id say the modulator filter is probably dirty too. oh ye the nox failed way to high(no2 i think)its runnig real rough at idle id like to change the plugs and wires hope that helps out the idle. gotta get to them first; any help on any of this is welcome thank yo
  5. this looks like a pain in the azz anybody ever changed the plugs i think tyey r platnum or irdium i got them cuz i work at a parts store but the alldata make the job look hard any suggestions? i have 260+k on the car and got it 20k ago im sure they should be changed but if its to much of a problem faGETABOUTIT
  6. today when I got home from work I noticed it was pretty hot out and i left the car running to check the tranny fluid when i opened the hood i noticed the fans werent running; then I thought about it and never heard them running; is this a switch? car dosen't overheat but seems to run alittle warm; not really sure where its supposed to b on the gauge; needle sits about 3' oclock
  7. my 1990 ls 400 alarm started going off after i locked the door(30 sec); I stopped locking the doors for awhile and tried it one day and the alarm stopped going off. after 30 sec lock the red security light would start flashing everything was fine. Recently it started goin off again so i stopped locking the doors again and started using the club. i work in a nasty part of Atl Ga at night and lock the doors when im driving; now all of a sudden when im going down the road the doors just unlock bythemselves; this car has problems anyone heard of this?
  8. having the same problem i was told if you press the brake pedal while lisening by the shifter you should hear a click; i dont hear the click so i think the switch is bad any idea what the switch is called?
  9. What Mel did is a beautiful thing. New members are always great, but a new member who actually uses the search feature, WOW!! Welcome aboard Mel! i was told yesterday by a reliable mechanic I need the gasket that goes on passenger side from manifold to Cat then there is another gasket on the small tube(maybe egr he didnt know)going into the passenger side cat any help with that gasket name or something?

  11. my lights dim when i hit the brakes or turn on the fan etc.. then they go bright agian in the blink of an eye ; people have told me this is the wire on the left side of trunk; unwrap and ill find the white wire is broken; could this b the culprit? i checked those wires and didnt find a boken wire as far as I could see; but do u think these r connescted?
  12. my 1990 ls400 car alarm goes off when 30 sec after i lock the doors. Any ideas what this could be? I have heard there could be a button under the dash to shut down the alarm; any ideas on where or if thie might be?

  14. I was thinking of getting a retro fit kit to switch my 90 ls400 over to 134a; My question is ....The car sat in a garage for 4 yrs then i drove it for the past 2; It never had air. The compressor seems to work; but if I retro fit this thing the old hoses could blow; i work for AZ(get in the zone) i looked up the hoses and they r 600 bucks. If i goto a junk yard they will be 20 yr old hoses too. What sould I do; or better yet where should I look for the hoses?
  15. how do I replace the bulb in the 3rd brakelight(highmount). Alldata says to remove the subwoofer tray but dosent tell u how. I dont have a speaker in there but i need to get inside to get the bulb. I also found two brown wires going to the speaker area that were cut any idea where they go?

  17. I have coolant leaking out of the top of my resevoir tank from the white sprocket looking thing; Id say it is a level sensor ; do these leak over time and where do I find a replacement? I also need to find a replacement band(clamp) that closes the air filter box; where can I find that?

  19. my clasp on the air filter ring got all messed up when i was changing the air filter on my 1990 ls400. i cant figure out how the clasp goes anyone got some idot pics for an idiot?
  20. Cant get the car out of park w/o pushing overide button. Iwas told to check for a click buy the console while pushing on brake. I didnt hear a click. is this the neutral safety switch?

Problems with broken wires at the drivers side trunk hinge are also sometimes accompanied by the Reverse gear indicator light in the gauge cluster flashing on and off while the car is in Drive, weird transmission shifting and other wacky symptoms. Good call, EUBT! i checked the trunk harness and didnt find any broken wires; I was wondering if its the lamp failure switch secured to the rear seat on the left side of trunk(drivers). Brake fluid looks full; Where would the wires b broken; i followed them as far as I could; mainly loooked where they bend. Last time the light came on I just got the car and didnt know about its electriucal history; so I cheked and found a blown bulb. The bulbs in the rear werewnt 1157 like book called for but cthey were a 2057 or something sililar. i was told dont worry about that they just blow out faster. As they blow I replace w/1157's
  22. My warning comes on the dash sometimes for the brake light turn or runnig but then sometimes it goes out; i cant find a bad bulb back there any suggestions?
  23. Create a folder in your documents and name it LS manual or something you like. Save the alldata pdf's to that folder, When you have all the info you may need, Then copy the folder to the drive where you have the card inserted into. Bingo your done. Now make a backup or 2. ;) thanks Ill get on that
  24. Been looking for a haynes or chilton for 90 ls400; no luck; i work at autozone and picked up a one yr scription for alldata been trying to save it on to a flash card but i think i need to b a geniuse to do it

My 90 ls400 wouldnt pass emissions and a friend of mine removed the egr valve and it was caked with carbon as was the throttle body; he cleaned both of them out and now im getting 3-4 more mpg .Car passed emissions and was running fine before he did it and runs the same after he did it except for the more mpg im getting. If you have over 100000 miles on it id suggest pulling egr valve and scraping out carbon dont let any get in the engine
