Car performs normally in all gears but dashboard says it is in reverse at all times.

Lexus ES300 98' runs like normal but it shows it is in reverse on the dashboard in every gear and at all times. The plate lights and the lights red lights closest to the plate stopped working. All other lights work normally. Check engine light came on after this happened. Haven't gotten the diagnostic yet. Curious if it is a separate issue and what electrical issue the car is having.
