I have a 1993 Lexus Es300 with about 130,000 miles on it. I have been experiencing problems with the A/C and Heat Fan, if I turn it on (either setting, hot or cold), you can hear this shuddering and the steering wheel/dash board starts to shake. I called my mechanic and they said it was the A/C unit and that would cost 300 dollars to fix. However, I think that the fan is just loose and needs to be tightened. Has anyone heard of this problem and does anyone know how much it will cost to fix? Will the dash need to be removed or can they go through the firewall? Thanks!!!

I am not sure what it is but when the heat/AC are turned on there is a shuddering sound that sounds like the fan is loose or something, is it possible that it could be the compressor, how could I be sure, so that I don't spend the extra bucks? How much is a compressor? and what is entailed in installation?

compressor replacment is not a DIY

look at the fan when it is spinning and see if the vibration is coming from it, press the a/c button on and off to see it is only starts shuddering when you press the button.

Yes it definately only happens when we turn on the heat or A/C. The higher you turn them up, the higher the vibrations and shuddering sounds get.
