tirider
I have a question for those who have 20 X 10 rears and 20 X 8.5 or 9 fronts on a GS430 or 300. I'm planning on using 245/35/20 in the front and 275/30/20 in the rear and I have not decided on 8.5 or 9 inch fronts. Will I have rubbing problems with this set-up -or- if I lower the car 1 inch or so? I currently have Lowenhart BR5's in 19 X 9.5 and 19 X 8.5 with 245/35/19 and 275/30/19's with L Tune shocks and springs ( lowered about 1 inch ) on a 2002 GS430, and no rubbing problems. I'm getting a new 2004 GS430 and I'm contemplating the wheel/tire size and the suspension set-up, and I've been warned by the dealer I might have a problem with the 20's and the lowered suspension. Any insight/experience is greatly appreciated.
MrSypher
Well, first off never listen to your dealer.. Most are retards when it comes to modifying cars.. I don't even know how many times I brought my car to Lexus and had the workers ask me questions and tell me how they didn't think you could do that with the GS's.. So just dismiss whatever was said... I'm running 20X8.5 and 20X10, I'm running the same tire sizes that you currently have on your GS. And I don't rub at all either.. But if you go wider in the rears with a 285 you might rub against the wheelwell so I'd advise to stick with the 275 back there.. Other than that your golden.. Also, I'm dropped about 2.5" up front and 3" in the rear.. I can go as low as I want in the rear without rubbing but if I go any lower in the front I'll rub whenever I turn into a bump or steep incline.. I don't think you'll have to worry about that because your not going to have you car slam'd the way mine is...
tirider
Thanks MrSypher for your reply. What do you think about the width in the front? My rim dealer is suggesting the 20 X 9 ( Lowenhart BR5 ), while I was thinking 20 X 8.5. Thanks for the tip on the 285 potential problem in the rear. MrSypher
You're better off going 8.5 atleast that way you know there's no chance for rubbing.. I had 9's all the way around my car and they rubbed in the front..
