tailgate latch repair

I HAVE A 1999 LEXUS lx470 and the tailgate latch no longer works from the exterior, allowing me to open the tailgate by climbing inside to release it. How do I go about gaing access to the latch to diagnose what is failing and replace whatever is needed.

Hi Michael...welcome to the Forum

I would advise opening the tailgate and removing the inner panel card to see what is occurring inside...more than likely a fault solenoid
