jimf4242 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I have a 2000 RX300. I have an odd knock sensor problem. The knock sensors have been replaced (twice), but the knock sensor code came back. When it comes on, it goes into limp mode...if I turn the car off, wait 30 seconds, restart, limp mode goes away. The check engine light stays on...but the next time it throws a code, back to limp mode. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you Jim
lenore Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Did you use original equipment sensors? Also sometimes the wiring harness leading up to knock sensors is damaged from heat and may be shorting in the intake manifold. Also have you read the codes?
jimf4242 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 The codes are from the knock sensors. The sensors this time were sourced from a different source than the first ones used. They are oem. Good question on the wiring harness...I will talk to my mechanic.
lenore Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Many on these site tell you to replace the wiring harness (short one) to Knock sensors....Unfortunately it would mean complete tear down again. But you should be able to check for shorts.
jimf4242 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Ok...that is a good suggestion...maybe the wiring harness can be checked for shorts and repaired.
