Only Rear Seat Entertainment Audio Played Through Ml System

Recommended Posts

First post, sort of feel like a leach having not contributed anything to this point.

I recently purchased a 2007 RC400h and it's been a fantastic vehicle. My wife loves it (I still get to drive the beater...go figure). Anyway, today in between school runs, the audio opted to quit working. Specifically:

Mark Levinson system with Nav, DVD changer and Rear Seat entertainment (no sat).

Bluetooth connection still functions, voice commands still work including audio controls.

Steering wheel controls all work and perform the functions expected with the following exceptions:

  • There is no audible audio so despite the volume numbers changing on both the radio display and the nav screen, there is no audio
  • Using the "Seek" function while in radio mode, it searches endlessly without every picking up a station.

Memory buttons work to select pre-programmed stations and the steering wheel controls to cycle mode and stations works.

The DVD changer shows 2 CDs installed (accurate) but it will not initiate them - it makes no attempt to "read disc", I can't eject them, I can't play them.

Cycling the mode to the rear seat entertainment, suddenly the audio works. No problems listening to the kid's movies from the back seat, but that's not really cutting it.

Primary symptoms:

  • No audio from the speakers except the rear seat DVD
  • DVD Changer registers loaded CDs but does not access them
  • No radio station tuning

Are there easily obtainable service / troubleshooting manuals for these vehicles? A logic flow chart? Am I dead in the water with a "broken" head unit or might I find something shorted in a harness somewhere?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

The Entertainment.pdf for the 2008 model, I'm operating on the assumption that it's largely the same. Assuming that entering the diagnostic mode is the same (key in ACC, audio off, mem buttons 1 & 6 simultaneously and press " Disc" 3 times), i have a problem in the AVCLAN.

Is there a second manual available that discusses the more mechanical aspects of things - IE how to access various components, connector and splice locations and so on?

You can buy a full service manual CD online (eBay) that has troubleshooting guides, wiring diagrams, component locations, connector locations, etc. I highly recommend it.

I did some searching but came up empty handed for a CD version. There are a couple of online doc-sharing websites that come across just dodgy enough to stop me. There is a factory wiring manual that looks promising.

Thought I'd come back and post the resolution - Lexus pulled the head unit and sent it off for repair, so we spent the hottest part of the summer without A/C or audio, but it works like a charm now. No information about what area failed or what the fix was beyond "repaired head unit".
