Paul Davies
Hello, I have been a member a while and have been scouring the site to try and find an answer to what im after , but have just ended up more confused than ever , i have sc430 2004 model which i love and want to update, i also do not want to lose the oem screens or use fm transmitter for handsfree. I have purchased a naviks system and will use one output for the back up camera. For the navigation i want to be able to navigate on my iphone which shows the navigation from the iphone onto the original nav screen with the output going through the oem ml radio Is it as simple as using MediaWire isimple RCA Audio/Video Connector Cable for the iPod or iPhone Fantastic audio and video playback quality Supports battery charging for iPod or iPhone Connecting the video output to the naviks then the audio to the ml cd radio? Or do i need another device? If this is possible can i stil connect a parrot mki9 series to the radio inputs and connect both systems to the phone at the same time? Ie bluetooth to the parrot and hard wired to the isimple without conflict? The other soloution would be to connect an apple tv video to the naviks and wirelessly transmit the iphone to the apple tv. I would need a hdmi cable that converts to rca cables from the apple tv (which i have found) and run the audio cables as in the first idea, (i have also found a apple tv 12 volt supply for a car) I have found a harness for the parrot - Lexus (and Toyota JBL) Harness Adapter QCJBL-2 Webpage http://www.quickconnectproducts.com/Find/find.php?id=176 If any of the above works will i be able to play audio through the radio from the iphone?, and at a different time video from the iphone to the sat nav screen? Sorry if this seems a repost , but i cannot find a post where the sat nav wants to be replaced with the original screen left intact and the ml stereo leaving intact but with audio and handsfree using the same input outputs... Any help at all is appreciated along with where to locate the microphone to seem oem again , no rude suggestions please....:) Thanks in advance Paul
ShawnOklahoma
So I've done quite a bit of mods on my car. including adding Vaistech SL3U Aux input, Asus Media Player, Reverse Cam, NAVIKS (like Navtool), Rockford Fosgate speakers, and lots of other mods. I kept the OEM head unit and am using an A/B RF keyfob switch to allow activation of my "extras." I added this and it might help solve your situation... http://www.ebay.com/itm/301130833379?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. Here's the thread on my build... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-430/691835-dvdnav-media-integration-naviks.html UPDATE: Only thing I'm unsure of, if you connect the iPhone to a TV at any time will it show your nav directions? If so, then this plan would work for you. If not, then I'm not sure how to duplicate the image on the phone to the OEM screen.
Paul Davies
Thanks Shawn, Ive taken a look at your mods-great job! Update on where im at, the first option i couldnt get to work !so looked at the apple tv route , i thought id got there but just as i was breaking the champagne out i learned that because of using a local router to connect the apple tv , wifi internet connection was lost and the maps app wouldnt work to give directions which was the main reason i was putting the apple tv in. For anyone interested in using the apple tv the main problem is the power source which you can get round with a power inverter, heres. A link for a uk model(im from the uk..) http://www.ebay.com/itm/231116979201?_trksid=p2055120.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This might work for usa http://www.ebay.com/itm/390822697458?_trksid=p2055120.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Heres a good you tube link showing most of what you need www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6oyVyjVZJw So back to the drawing board , however there may be something ive found like the slu which is from denison products which is here:- http://www.dension.com/search-sku?startlng=&make=Lexus&type=SC%20430&year=2001-2006&hu=All&img=generic.png&info=-&sku1=GWL3TO1&sku2=GBL3TO1&sku3=GW33TO1 Shawn, is this the same as the slu2 that you mentioned at the end of your post? Ill keep updating this as i dig deeper , it may be i have to forget replacing the factory sat nav directions with a better system, One thing im interested in for handsfree where has anyone located the microphone on the sc430? Thansk again Shawn :)
Paul Davies
Quick update For uk users heres a nav system that works- just a little too pricey for me so im going to continue the search, usa users should be able to find the same system http://www.globalgps.co.uk/item-24832-garmin-gvn-53-010-00668-
ShawnOklahoma
Yeah, updating the system is a little tough due to backward compatibility. Unfortunately, the links you posted with the Gateway options are tough to decide if compatible as they don't show the wiring harness. My 2002 uses a "BIG 12 (7+5) harness," whereas later Sc430's use a "Small 12 (6+6) harness," from what my research revealed. VaisTech SL3U has been proven to work with our models and thus I stuck with the trial and errors of other owners. You could take a chance on this gateway and report back. Would be really great to have another option other than VaisTech as they don't offer any discount as they know they own the market for our vehicles so they can set the going rate on their product (no competition). Another question you might want to ponder, will attaching this gateway disable the 6 disc CD player. I tried a few different products and in the end none truly worked (Blitzsafe was the closest to functional). Some manufacturers did indicate that attaching their devices would disable the 6 disc changer. VaisTech's SL3U still allows the CD changer to be functional. Food for thought. Please let us know what path you take. Thanks! UPDATE: you can also search that other site i posted for mods where people have updated their screens and DVD player hardware to allow better map software and bluetooth. There's also a post in which someone added an afttermarket tablet in place of the OEM screen. Good luck. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-430/736625-goodbye-navi-hello-windows-8-os-macos.html#post8472750
Paul Davies
Thanks Shawn, Heres an update to what i have finished with so far:- Naviks in boot and reverse camera with switch in centre console Vais kit to hook up to ml system and isimple terminating in centre console Parrot mk9100 terminating in centre console and digital display in cigarette socket compartment with microphones tucked behind Steering wheel below the guages so i cannot see them whilst driving So.... I havent got my maps from iphone to screen yet but...it seems that when a new jailbreak for iphone 7.1.1 is launched this will then work straight through the isimple Awesome mods , loving the handsfree, video playback and music through the system, everything works still , cd player radio and steering wheel volume controls so all in all very happy and while i wait for the jailbreak the iphone maps directional voice plays through the speakers so im halfway happy with that also! Im glad i took your advice and kept with the tried and tested systems people have used on here, the only downside was shipping times from the usa and germany combined with customs charges at my end but well worth the wait and trouble. Now my only concerns are where to put the small remotes for isimple and the parrot mk9100 without spoiling the look of the dashboard etc, ill trawl through the site(s) again and post pics in case anyone is interested Next mod planned :- speaker repair or replace then onto alloys and lastly(?) new colour maybe pearlescent white... I have the colour classed as red on the log book but it is a mettalic black/ purple in the sun Thank you again Shawn i wouldnt have done these mods without your help :)
ShawnOklahoma
Thanks for the props! Glad it all came together! In regard to your shipping times, as you've heard Good Things Come to those that Wait. As for your mods, photos would be amazing to help visualize your setup. I'm still so happy with my mods. From my photos you can see where I put the Arion Bluetooth remote at the side of the driver seat so it's incognito. As for the iSimple remote, I put mine right on top of the coin tray with velcro but I have seen other users that have trimmed down the coin tray and placed the iSimple remote in the space (although it must be turned sideways and the spring cover must be removed). Could be of interest to you. As for the parrot, I'm not sure as I've never seen the remote or unit itself. As for the NAVIKS, why didn't you connect to the reverse wire on the DVD harness? So you can check out the rear view at anytime? In regards to your speakers, I suggest replacement of door speakers with the Rockford Fosgate PPS8-6 8ohm, 6.5" midbass (you will need an adapter plate and minimal modification). Rear speakers with Rockford Fosgate 4" 4 ohm. and the subwoofer with a dual voice coil (8ohm per coil) wired in series. That's my setup and i get compliments on the system all the time. Also keep the total impedance as close to OEM will help keep the amp from failure (a common problem with the SC430- possibly due to swaps with unacceptable aftermarket speakers). http://s29.postimg.org/9biahab13/speaker_specs.png And as for the paint, I'd like to see this red/black/purple (Black Cherry?) you're referring to. :-)

Paul Davies
Last pic of back up camera install , havent tried the led at night yet but clear as crystal during the day! Btw Shawn was that the colour you expected on the car? Cheers Paul
ShawnOklahoma
Great work on the modification. Wasn't too hard right? :-) And that color is awesome! It is totally Black Cherry. I wouldn't change it. It's quite rare as I've never seen it before. Is it a pebble beach edition? Or was it repainted? It's a really nice color, don't change it! pj8708
Hey guys, Excelent job! The finished project looks perfect. One of the best OEM mods I've ever seen! In reading your threads its' obvious you two are well versed in auto audio and video topics. The Club does not recieve a great deal of traffic around these issues, but there are certainly enough that we need to do a better job of providing more helpful and accurate information. To that end, I am wondering if both of you would be willing to act as "Guru's in Residence" lol But I am serious. It would be great If we could call on one or the other of you to answer a posting now and then. I don't anticipate this would be on a frequent basis Please give it some thought and let me know what you think. Thanks guys, Have a great weekend! ShawnOklahoma
Thanks Paul! Haha, I don't know if I'd consider myself a guru, but I do try to chime in with helpful additions and guides as people need. I've done quite a bit of mods to my car, and try to keep it DIY as much as possible. Some of my mods that I will create threads for include the DVDNav Media Integration, Aux Input, Puddle Lights in the Mirrors, Switchback LED's under the headlights, and Turn Signals/Driving Lights in the Door Handles. I try to be professional in my installs while keeping the OEM look for the SC. I will post my DIY's soon but I would be more than happy to help any members that need help with projects! :-)
Paul Davies
Paul, Thanks for looping me in as a guru also, and of course i would be happy to help anybody with their installs, the only thing you may find however is i post a link to Shawns mods as in the end this is how i accomplished my own mods! Im posting my vote as Shawn as top guru right now ! Paul
