Typically, the issue is in the emissions or some thing that is affecting the effectiveness in the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, also. To ascertain the cause, the car will have to be taken to AutoZone or possibly a shop which has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not offer you the magic answer, it's going to offer you a code that narrows down the issue region. A flashing verify engine light is an indication of a serious misfire or challenge that's most likely to harm your engine. Immediate diagnosis and service is needed. Some precise causes for the light to be on are: Gasoline cap left off, not tightened, not installed appropriately, or requirements to be replaced. Engine misfire - error could clear itself right after three full warm-up cycles; not restarts, but warm-ups. At start off up to get a bulb verify - Should not stay on. Difficulty within the emission process, like clogged exhaust or the catalytic converter not functioning correctly: Dirty/clogged air filter. Dirty MAF sensor. There are actually pages and pages of products that can lead to a examine engine light to come on. Obtaining it checked using a scan tool will narrow down the problem area.
